Am I the only one who thinks that the guitar for ps3 (don't know about other versions) sucks?
Its the strum bar ...or whatever its called. It just feels off. Veryhard to get those rapid notes.
The ps2 controller felt much better as far as that part goes. The 360 gh2 feels great. I hate playing the guitar now. Is it just me? Do I have a defective guitar? Or is this how it is for everyone?

the key is alternate strumming and not just down-down-down-down-down-down-down.
going up and down (like on a real guitar) is a lot better and extends the life of the guitars. of course there are times when straight down strumming is key (machine gun runs, etc.) it's typically best if you try out alt. strumming.

I love the Strat in most ways, but I can't for the life of me manage to get the hang of alt-strumming with it and I'm really not sure why. Maybe it has something to do with the lack of clickiness.

I tried the alt strumming but I must not be getting the timing right because I still miss half the notes on those machine gun rails. I am think Creep near the end on Expert. Sheesh.

The only problem I get is that the dongle picks up interference easily and doesn't pick up notes or counts extra strums, otherwise I like the guitar.

I use up and down stumming, but when notes are not very fast, I use only down stumming, and now I can definetly feel that down strumming is more loose than up strumming.

it doesn't feel to rigid to you guys? It seriously hinders my accuracy when I hit 1 out of 3 notes, when on both 360 and ps2 guitars I'd hit all 3.

Play some more, it will loosen up. :P

I try alt strumming in spots, but like a lot of people who sorta just pick it up and do whats easiest, I've been mostly down strumming. All of the sudden you hit some songs that require the other method, and then you learn or get burned.

I think you've got a defective guitar. If it isn't as sensitive as the GH guitars, something's wrong. I was playing on a PS3 one that had a strum problem, and I thought I just sucked at rapid notes. Turns out it was the guitar slowly breaking, as I tried on a friend's, and it was just as sensitive as the GH guitars.

Are you the only one? Haha.
You're among the vast majority my friend. The VERY vast majority. The strum bar on the guitar is a joke, and whoever approved it for Harmonix should be fired. No, I'm not kidding. The fundemental aspect of the guitar for these games is the strum bar. How on earth you screw that up so royall is beyond my comprehension.

That's a fair bit of hyperbole. I know a lot of people who love the new strum bar. I love it, and it's hard for me to go back to the X-Plorer/SG now. It's entirely personal opinion.
But, it's good to know that you have no problem suggesting the destruction of someone's livelihood because the strum bar doesn't meet your standards.

You know, I'm all for discussing the merits of tactile feedback verses silent strum, loose vs tight, etc. etc. but when it's: "WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE" this, and "FIRE SOMEONE" that, it really makes it difficult to keep these threads open. Just a thought.

I found that on my replacement guitar that the strum bar is better than the original one. It's still not up to par with the LP for hitting those fast repetitive notes though.
I've tried the up/down strumming thing and either I can't get the rhythm right or it's the strum bar issue again.
On the brighter side: I do LOVE the fret buttons on the Strat over the LP. It's a heck of a lot easier to slide your hand across and since the buttons are closer together it's easier to hit wide note spreads such as Green/Orange.
If they could only design the guitar with a strummer more like the LP and keep the current buttons I'd be an incredibly happy camper!

I recently went over to my uncles house who's rockband guitar was sent back due to not working and I was stuck playing on the GHIII P.O.S. guitar and I have to say. I am glad my rockband guitar is working good.

I think down strumming is so much easier than up and down strumming even in fast songs

I personally love the new strum bar. It took some getting used to, having the SG controller and Guitar hero 3, but I think all in all ,the controller has a better look and feel. Fast notes aren't an issue, and I can still strum without having to go all the way back and forth on the strum bar. Just a very light touch and I can play notes. By doing this, I can relax going thru faster sections and note miss as many.

Since I got my working controller, I love this thing even more than I did when I first played with it.
Much more than any previous controller, this one invites you to play by feel and rhythm. Sure the rules of the old controller still apply (sometimes, yes, it helps to count notes as you play them), but this controller seems much more conducive to a more natural style of playing, so the little tools you use to help you get through certain stretches will begin to fade away in favor of really jamming.
This is, absolutely, the closest I have felt to playing a real instrument since I started playing the original GH over a year ago.

Completely with you. If anything, for me it's far easier to alt strum with this guitar which seems to go against a lot of opinion. I like everything about this guitar better than the GH Explorer or the Les Paul - fret buttons, strum feel, whammy bar.
The only problem I have with it is on reliability front. For the most part I've fixed those myself... and I don't look forward to the 15 or so screws I have to remove whenever I do need to take a look at the internals. :p
