The first decade of the 21st Century has only six more months to go, and (like it or not) music went in a lot of new directions. Out of all the music in the last decade, which 10 songs are the best for whatever reason you choose. This list doesn't have to be in order, though mine will be.
1. Lose Yourself- Eminem
2. The National Anthem- Radiohead
3. Beautiful Day- U2
4. Seven Nation Army- The White Stripes
5. Holiday/Boulevard of Broken Dreams- Green Day
6. Jesus, Etc.- Wilco
7. Stan- Eminem
8. Jigsaw Falling Into Place- Radiohead
9. Clocks- Coldplay
10. Paper Planes- M.I.A.

I'm going to be even trickier by making all of the artists primarily known for their work this decade. In other words, no U2, no Marillion.
1. 7 Nation Army - White Stripes
2. Nevers - Fiery Furnaces
3. You Know I'm no Good - Amy Winehouse
4. Maps - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
5. Cry to the Moon - Epica
6. M4 - Faunts
7. Joker and the Thief - Wolfmother
8. L'via L'viaquez - Mars Volta
9. Arials - SOTD
10. Little Sister - QOTSA
That's my opinion, if I added bands that hit it big earlier, I couldn't limit it to 10. :)

It's pretty hard to narrow it down to 10. I left out quite a few bands that on another day could have easily cracked the list (Amesoeurs, Paysage d'hiver, Watain, Wolf).

I like way too many songs from this decade to even consider limiting it down to ten. I might be able to do it with albums, but even that's a bit of a stretch.

Incredibly crappy attempt, lol
In no especial order, with some additional reasoning (beyond my happening to like them) even!
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence by Dream Theater
-DT's as yet longest song, and usually referenced as their best epic. It certainly stands well on it's own, and was a semi-last gasp of their melodic or softer stuff before they went more metally.
Jesus Of Suburbia by Green Day
-Not expecting a warm reception for it here, but it definitely was a change of pace for Green Day, and as "punk" goes in general, writing 12 minute long multi-movement conceptuals was definately out of the box thinking.
Kryptonite by 3 Doors Down
-A pretty solid choice. It's a good song (IMO, vastly outdoing any other 3DD songs I happen to have stumbled across). Also did well in sales, charting, and other such.
No One Knows by Queens of the Stone Age
-Sure, it was overplayed into the ground when it came out. But solid work overall, and a major breakthrough for the unorthodox group.
Amazing Flight (In Space) by Ayreon
-Honestly, I just wanted to throw an Ayreon song in here, though you really need entire albums to represent Ayreon properly. Still, my personal favorite off the best of the series (IMO, Human Equation may have had better specific songs, but Electric Castle stood better as an album).
Ain't No Easy Way by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
-BRMC chucks aside their feedback roots, and randomly busts out a folk/country rock record. This was the main single off it, and one of their more popular ones to date. And the first steps of BRMC developing their own sound instead of getting consistent labellings as Jesus And Mary Chain Jr.
Float On by Modest Mouse
-A lovely little diddy, almost inspiring. And bizarrely successful for the genre at the time.
Danger! High Voltage by Electric Six
-Because remidners that you don't need to be serious in music are always good.
Milliontown by Frost and Toys by Frost
-One of my favorite newer bands. The debate of their being prog or not bores me entirely though. I recommend their entire catalog, but the crazy epic Milliontown is the go-to point if you're into that sort of thing, while Toys is just a playful little short diddy.

No idea what the greatest songs are, but I do have my favorites. I tried to stick with singles or semi-successful songs as they undoubtedly exert a much greater impact on popular music in comparison to album tracks, with few exceptions.
1. Moby - "Porcelain"
2. Daft Punk - "One More Time"
3. M.I.A. - "Paper Planes"
4. Outkast - "Hey Ya!", "Roses", or "B.O.B."
5. Nellie McKay - "David"
6. The Dresden Dolls - "Coin-Operated Boy"
7. Black Eyed Peas - "Where Is The Love?"
8. Amy Winehouse - "Rehab"
9. Regina Spektor - "Fidelity"
10. The White Stripes - "Fell In Love With A Girl"
They're not really favorite songs of mine, but I think Coldplay's Clocks or The Scientist deserve an honorable mention here, too. Also biting my tongue for not including anything by the Queens of The Stone Age, Silversun Pickups, The Strokes, Interpol, Andrew W.K., The Scissor Sisters, Radiohead, or Mastodon.
These things are so difficult for me to compose.
