Deep Purple easily, Deep Purple made 4+ classic albums where as Rainbow only made one excellent album in my opinion. I also prefer Jon Lord much more to Rainbows keyboardist's but on the other hand I think Ritchie's soloing was better with Rainbow.

i agree about the albums and Blackmore's soloing. But, I change my mind about it all the time. A few days ago i would say Deep Purple, but right now i say Rainbow.

Deep Purple. Rainbow have a better range of colours, but Deep Purple nails them when it comes to music.

I'd make a pun here about purple being part of the rainbow, but I'm not feeling very creative right now.
I went with Deep Purple.

Deep Purple. Rising is a great album, but it just can't beat In Rock, Machine Head and Fireball.

Well it was like choosing which son to sacrifice from identical twins, but I went with Deep Purple. But Dio definitely did a great Mistreated, and Sixteenth Century Greensleves is one hell of a riff. Yeah I'm like the OP I can switch my answer depending on my mood.

This is tough. The Rainbow stuff I like, I love better than Deep Purple, but Deep Purple has many more great moments than Rainbow does. I'll go with Deep Purple.

Deep Purple.
Cause Ian Gillan owns Dio, even in their Sabbath stints.

Rainbow is a fun band, but I would put Deep Purple in my 15 favorite bands ever, so they get the nod.
