self explanatory topic.
3. Seeing KMFDM live for the first time after nearly a decade of listening to and loving their music.
2. Roger Waters concert last summer. Second time seeing roger waters play live. Was also engraved on my mind thanks to some chemical help from Albert Hoffman.
1. Pink Floyd live in London's Hyde Park at Live 8 in 2007. I had planned my trip months in advance to this announcement even being made, and it just happened to work out honky-dory for me. We didn't have tickets to get in but that didn't stop us from accosting many a security personnel in order to find one we could "convince" with money to let us in.
honorable mention: Green Day on their Dookie support tour. First concert i ever went to.

3. The Who at Royal Albert Hall, London in 2002. They've always been one of my favourite bands and it was the first time I'd ever seen them. One of the last performances before John Entwistle died aswell.
2. Atheist, Gorguts and Cannibal Corpse in 1992, cant remeber much apart from Atheist stole the show and really badly hurting my knee in the mosh pit. Ouch.
1. Electric Wizard in 2004. Small venue in a remote part of England, plumes of weed smoke in the air and amps cranked up way past 11. I don't think anything can top this for me, awesome show.

you'll never forget it. I can remember just about every moment of the concert when i saw Green Day. And Prog Nation will probably be 100x better than Green Day's first tour was.

The first time that I saw the Ramones at some crappy club in Myrtle Beach. I had been listening to them for years and even had live albums but nothing compares to seeing them in person. It was almost a call to arms.
I saw the Reverend Horton Heat at Rockafellas in Columbia, SC. There were like 20 people there and they still played like there was no tomorrow. The guys in the band said they were playing in Atlanta the next night so I drove to Georgia the next day and went to the Masquerade and saw them play to a packed house of skinheads, greasers, punks, and other assorted misfits. I've been to dozens of punk and thrash concerts but I can't think of any other band that played that fast and that tight.
When I finally got to see Joan Jett after missing several chances to see her over the years, I realized that I still have feelings for her. She still does it like no one else.

Easily my most memorable is this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrzO-KTkh-4&feature=related nothing like a having a riot break out at your first concert. Was 4 years before I was allowed to go to another.
Seeing the Rolling Stones play The Horseshoe Tavern in '94 for 5 bucks! http://archives.cbc.ca/arts_entertainment/music/topics/832-4887/
I dunno about a third , I guess maybe taking my nephew to see Fozzy in 2005, they pulled him up on stage let him play Rich Wards guitar while up on his shoulders and just generally really treated him well. He was around 11 or 12 at the time so it was his first concert experience. He was super excited to be going to a concert and the fact the band was Chris Jericho's band was a bonus since Chris was his favorite wrestler back then. They even got a shot of my nephew in one of their music videos that they filmed that night. He pops up at around 1:11 throwing the "metal horns" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaDc_P6k2Po

There's a general rule in place that if I have a good time at a concert, I don't remember it. Here are the exceptions:
3. This Ascension/Clan of Xymox, Outland, Columbus Ohio, 1998.
This one sticks in my head a lot because Dru (from TA) and I were pretty good friends, and the show was one of the best I've ever seen them perform. And afterwards we went back to the tour bus and got wasted. :)
2. Fish, Civic Hall, Wolverhampton, UK 2001
This show was memorable because it was an adventure! I was in london on my honeymoon, and my husband HATED fish, marillion, pretty much anything that wasn't goth, industrial, or abba. I pretty much threatened to cut the guy off if we didn't go, so we took the 3 hour (IIRC) road trip up to Wolverhampton. We got very very lost. We drove around for about an hour until we finally gave up. We decided to just park and see the town since we were already here (and had nothing better to do). I see a guy walk by me wearing a marillion t-shirt and I squealed. We ended up hanging out with the guy and his girlfriend, drinking dirty pints of porter, and watching Fish put on a great show!
1. The Mission UK/Gene Loves Jezebel/Mike Peters, Newport, Columbus 1999
Another person I knew LOL. This one sticks out because my friends and I ran into Wayne Hussey during sound check, and we all ran out to get booze and blimpie's. We got him a little drunk (although I suspect it wasn't just us lol), talked about way too much personal stuff (he was going through a divorce), and I proceeded to watch one of my musical idols put on one of the best concerts I've ever seen (from the front row, even, wearing a mission beanie). We hung out back stage afterwards, and I ended up doing shots with Craig Adams and one of the guys from GLJ. Much fun was had, aka best concert ever.

3. Paul McCartney in Tel Aviv
amazing atmosphere, amazing singalong in Hey Jude, some great rock n' roll with great people, a brilliant acoustic set, overall a fantastic concert.
2. Radiohead in Los Angeles (Hollywood Bowl Night 2)
From the opening drum beat of Reckoner (not their usual concert opener) I knew this was going to be something else. Pyramid Song, one of my favourite songs ever, was played early and I was so glad. Talk Show Host brought the house down, Videotape almost made me cry, Thom danced like a madmen in The Gloaming. An amazing power trio of Jigsaw --> The Bends --> The National Anthem. They even threw in a Neil Young cover... and that's just the main set.
And the encores? Planet Telex was just plain awesome, Fake Plastic Trees was purely amazing, and then thom starts singing... F***ING TRUE LOVE WAITS. An epic second encore including Karma Police straight into an insane Idioteque close this perfect night. Even the lack of Paraniod Android and other songs couldn't ruin it.
1. David Gilmour & Rick Wright in Florence
Gilmour is my favourite guitarist ever, and he was absolutely brilliant that night. Every solo was fantastic in every way. Wright RIP played beautifully and sang "Wearing the Inside Out". Pink Floyd classics like Shine On and Astronomy Domine were played perfectly, along with Gilmour's On an Island, which sounded great.
But what's truly amazing about this show was the ending. A fantastic 26 minutes version of Echoes closed the sets - even when the lights broke down, they just kept on playing, and were amazing. Then in the encores I went forward and watched them practically from down the stage, about a meter and a half from Gilmour himself. The second solo in Comfortably Numb was simply breathtaking that night, note perfect, much better then the DVD version. He even hit that big harmonic at the beginning. I wanted it to go on and on. Truly a once in a lifetime sort of thing.

I've never been to a concert. :( I live about an hour away from Atlanta, so it's not like we don't get any decent bands around here. I guess I just don't check tour dates much *shrugs*.

2. A concert that hasn't happened yet.

3. Stone Temple Pilots at the Hollywood Bowl. I had a crapy seat, but they put on a good show.
2. Flobots at the House of Blues. This was my first experience with a small venue and I loved the feel of it. The energy was great and at the end they did a great cover of Heartbreaker.
1. Foo Fighters w/ Serj Tankian and Against Me! at the Wilshire Forum. What really made this memorable was that I got to meet Serj himself. This is the first concert that really made me go "wow" and it is what got me into SOAD and Foo Fighters.

Living in a small-ish city, I haven't really had the chance to go to too many concerts... though out of the ones I've seen I'd say:
1. Aerosmith
2. Oasis
3. Goo Goo Dolls
Those are pretty much the only concerts I've been to... though at the end of this week I'm seeing Counting Crows, The Trews, KISS, STP and Our Lady Peace... so it should be a good time.

3. Metallica at Rock Werchter 2007. It was part of their Sick of the Studio tour and the first time I saw them live and they were absolutely epic.
2. Iron Maiden at Graspop Metal Meeting 2008 (Somewhere Back in Time World Tour). Live After Death is one of the greatest live performances I ever heard so I was really excited for this particular tour. The band played an out of this world set and while I was driving home we were still listening to Maiden!
1. The Police at TW Classic in 2008 (part of their reunion tour). When The Police was supposed to come to Antwerp late 2007, they had planned two gigs. I had tickets for the second gig. Unfortunately, Sting decided to get a sore throat and they cancelled the whole thing. When they announced they would be headlining TW Classic I got tickets as fast as I could. It would quite possibly be the last chance to see The Police in action in my country, so I grabbed the opportunity with both hands. The gig was stellar but what made it the best gig ever was the amazing, out of nowhere, Next To You encore they played. It's a song few people know but I had been anxiously awaiting it the entire evening. Finishing with that song was pure magic and so made this the best gig I've ever been to!

1. Electric Wizard in 2004. Small venue in a remote part of England, plumes of weed smoke in the air and amps cranked up way past 11. I don't think anything can top this for me, awesome show.
...
I would ****ing kill to see the Wizard live. I don't know when/if I'll get the chance to, though :(
For me:
1.) Iron Maiden
I've only really gotten into music since this show (in spring 08). It changed my life and I could write a book on how amazing it was.
2.) Dinosaur Jr.
Since we're talking memorable, this is easily up there considering that if I end up losing my hearing at age 25, this will be the reason.
3.) Job For a Cowboy
First death metal show I went to and my first real experience with mosh pits and such. Quite hectic and lots of fun.

I've only been to one ocncert in my life and it was Canadian Carnage in Calgary. It was amazing and it really got me into Suicide Silence's music.Megadeth,Slayer and Machine Head all played great shows too though. It was unforgettable.

2. Atheist, Gorguts and Cannibal Corpse in 1992, cant remeber much apart from Atheist stole the show and really badly hurting my knee in the mosh pit. Ouch.
........
3.Styx/Foreigner/Def Leppard 2007
Foreigner stole that show and I absolutely loved it, one of the earlier ones I remember well.
2.Rush Snakes and Arrows(2008 return date to Ohio)-Rush put on a great show and Natural Science was the highlight of the night.
1.Yes 2008-Everyone was playing very well and I love the setlist. Machine Messiah, Astral Traveler, the entire Close to the Edge album, I was in heaven. Best part that my parents surprised me with front row tickets so I got to watch Chris Squire and Steve Howe kick ass up close.

3. Rod Stewart (July 27,1988). At one point during the concert he was kicking soccer balls out to the audience. Kept hoping he'd kick one our way but it didn't happen.
2. The Cars (December 1, 1987). If I remember right...I had the song "Dangerous Type" stuck in my head after the show and eventually had to go out and find the song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtg_mVytBhk
1. Eric Clapton (August 28,1990). This show was the day after Stevie Ray Vaughan died. Seems like there was a lot of talk about what Clapton would do and whether or not the show would be cancelled.

the first time i saw lightning bolt and was convinced that the roof of the basement was going to collapse on us.
a bunch of awful christian-college rock bands playing in a church after my band opened and i got a concussion and continued to sit through the whole show bleeding everywhere.
the first time i saw mountain goats (well, john solo) and he just pulled up a stool and everyone just crowded around for the BEST PERFORMANCE EVER!!!

3. Rage Against the Machine, Rock the Bells festival, NYC
2. Roger Waters, the Meadows, Hartford
1. Nine Inch Nails, AAA, Dallas...Trent Reznor really knows how to put on a show.

3. Wide Mouth Mason in Banff, Alberta, Canada. Our lab group was in town for a work related function and at the end of the day we wandered into town to see what was going on. We heard that Wide Mouth Mason (a great live band in my opinion) was playing a small bar (maybe 200-300 people). It was a great show and an excellent way for us to unwind.
2. Rush in Edmonton, Canada. It was our 2nd wedding anniversary and my wife sacrificed our night so that we could go see Rush. Great band, great show. We both had an awesome time.
1. Armin van Buuren in Edmonton, Canada. I know that it's not most people's cup of tea on these boards, but I happen to like electronic music 50/50 with rock. I've seen a lot of good electronic shows, but this one was extra special to me because Armin handed out a couple of records to people at the front and I happened to grab one and get it signed by him that night. This was the start of my 800+ electronic music vinyl collection.

3. Primus - Zingers Tour - Despite people yelling "Primus sucks!" all throughout the show (hint: the band doesn't even like it anymore), seeing Les live was amazing, and they closed with "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver", probably my favorite song of theirs and one I desperately want in this game. The opening band (Mike Dillon's Go-Go Jungle) also had the honor of not being yet another crappy opening band I sat through. Their drummer was friggin' amazing.
I'm going to have to cop out and not number the other two, since they're up here for different reasons.
Nine Inch Nails - Lights over North America - Trent knows how to put on a show and the video setup he had pure sex (http://www.wired.com/entertainment/music/news/2008/09/nin_show); I'm pretty sure during "Gave Up" I started tripping balls. Besides seeing NIN, I was also excited to see Josh Freese, since MJK decided to be a dick and break up APC instead of Tool. Freese brought a whole nother level to the slower songs like Closer and Piggy with his freestyling. This is one I'm glad I wasn't too close to the front, otherwise I probably would've lost a rib (if I was lucky). As if that wasn't awesome enough, Trent decided to let people watch from the comfort of their own homes (http://www.wired.com/underwire/2009/01/nine-inch-nails/).
Deftones - Taste of Chaos - Seeing your favorite band for the first time is always special (although if you were at this concert (http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/Blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=11428), it'd be special for all the wrong reasons). Sure, I had to sit through many many many horrible acts (As I Lay Dying and Story of the Year? Somebody pinch me </sarcasm>), I was introduced to dredg, who are quite the opposite of "suck". Deftones played basically all of their songs I really really love, some new ones, and basically tore the house down. Oh, and getting to hang out with one the members of your favorite band after the show is cool too. My compadre and I got to hang out with Stef for about 10 minutes, during which time I said almost nothing because, well, I'm an idiot (and quiet in real life).
Honorable Mention: B-52's Funplex tour. I don't want to say that Harrah's flew us out to Atlantic City from Portland with 4 days hotel accomodation just to see the B-52's for free, but that's kind of what happened (I think there was a Rock Band competition in there, but I did a lot of drinking that trip).

The Who. My first concert ever. Robert Plant opened and it was the first concert after The Ox died. It was a magical evening.
The Rolling Stones. Beck opened. Amazing show was put on. Beck did this thing with puppets and the Rolling Stones had a giant inflatable tongue. It was so cool. And afterwards hanging out in the parking lot until like 4 am was definitely an experience.
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Great show. Karen O was probably the performer I found most fun to watch ever. I mean I've seen a lot of shows and they were all cool but most relied on effects (Aerosmith, KISS) but the Yeah Yeah Yeahs were just pure awesome to watch. It was cool.
Honorable mentions: David Bowie=epic, GWAR=****ing insane ****sane, KISS=great performers, Aerosmith=Cool, Cheap Trick=played 70s Show Theme.

3. Rush Snakes and Arrows Tour 07' Hollywood Bowl My dad got me into Rush in the early 90's and I've been a huge fan ever since. I finally got to see them in 07' at a packed Hollywood Bowl and it was awesome; fantastic concert.
2. The Who at Staples Center 2006 OR Van Halen at Staples Center 2007This one is a tie between The Who and Van Halen. I'm not saying those bands are on par with each other, I just liked the concerts both equally. The Who were, well, the Who: freakin awesome even with only two of them still alive in 06'. And I saw Van Halen in 07' with Roth. Van Halen is my favorite overall group and they delivered, unlike the earlier tour, they actually got their act together and played like classic Van Halen.
1. AC/DC Black Ice Tour Staples Center 2008 Without a doubt was the best concert I've ever been to. So loud! So rock! My ears didn't work right for a week and a half afterwards and I was totally happy with that, that's a great concert.

3. Into Eternity/Epica/Symphony X (March 2008) Live at The Pearl Room, Mokena, IL
after several 2 hour sound checks in between each act (their was a 4th band, a local band that opened, can't remember their name, but they actually upshowed Into Eternity), Into Eternity came on and had tons of microphone problems where they went through about a dozen before they found one that worked, of course, they had played for about 15 minutes and went through 2 songs by then
Epica had a 2 hour sound check, and they did double bass check for 22 minutes straight, this was while Simone had a staph infection, so they had that blonde Amanda chick fill in, and she was pretty good, and they actually were probably IMO put on the best show of the night
Symphony X came on and just rocked the building, Russell was putting on a great show and was very interactive with the crowd, telling stories and whatnot, throwing water into the mob that had been standing around for about 6 hours already, and even letting an audience member sing parts of Paradise Lost
also, i went with my friend Tony, and we started out about 3 rows of people from the stage, all the way on the left side, by time Symphony X came on, we were in the way back, all the way against a wall on the right side
2. Sonic Youth (June 2009) Live at the Vic, Chicago, IL
ahhh, my most recent big concert adventure, great opening act (White/Light i think was their name), opened with "She is Not Alone" in which afterwards (since the *** pride ralley was going on outside) he started the next song by sayin "we're here. we're *****. get used to it." with a roar from the crowd, and starting one of the songs (can't remember which one) where Thurston couldn't remember how it started and having to ask the rest
Thurston and Lee were jumpin around, and i thought Thurston was gonna fall off the stage, also, i remembered that my English 102 professor back when i was a freshman looks almost exactly like Lee, Kim was awesome and so was Steve, the triple encores were memorable, and well, i've talked about this concert so much since i went i'll leave it at that
1. Greg Rollie Band/WAR (July 2008) Live at the Festival of the Lakes, Hammond, IN
this just edges out Sonic Youth, because WAR was PHENOMENAL, Lonnie Jordan was waaaaaaaay interactive and wanted to put on a gigantic show (which was free i might add) and told stories about early WAR in the middle of songs, they played a medley of other songs (like Iron Man) in the middle of playing Low Rider (which they played, including medley and another story about early WAR) for about 30 minutes, after they had played for about 2 hours
i'll never forget this show, and it will probably stay up here forever
HM: Cheap Trick, Smash Mouth, ZZ Top, Live, Blues Traveler, M&R Rush/REO Speedwagon, Molly Hatchet, Eddie Money, Chicago
didn't include the CrawPuppies (though they put on an amazing show back in 2005 that was probably the best i'd see from them) due to seeing them 8 times and them being local

Lots of cool shows mentioned in here, I'm envious of some of you.
Seeing as how I've noticed a few honorable mentions bandied about I'm gonna add an HM to my three. I know it's all anyone's talked about, its gotten on my nerves as well, but my honorable mention has gotta be seeing the Jacksons on the Victory tour 2 nights in a row at CNE Stadium. There really was nothing like seeing MJ live.

3. Bon Jovi back in 06, it was my first and i though it was cool at the time
2. Weird Al in 07, it was the funniest concert that i have ever been to
3. my favorite, AC-DC Black Ice 08 tour. Saw them in in october and it was the most kick azz concert i have ever been to. I was super close to them and i couldn't hear anything after the concert for a couple of days :D

1. Alice Cooper on the last day of summer vacation before my senior year of high school. Great show, great theatrics, great energy, and everyone in the crowd was singing along.
2. Chuck Berry, early last summer I think. It was, sadly, a small crowd for the venue, and nowhere near as energetic, but still a great performance and repartee. I found it funny that even having played it for so long, he couldn't get through "My Ding-a-Ling" without laughing. He even managed to pull of a duck walk near the end during "Johnny B. Goode".
3. I guess ZZ Top wins third by default, seeing as it's the only other concert I've been to. Great show, but not as memorable as the other two, some cool covers though, including Muddy Waters' "Rollin' Stone" and Hendrix's arrangement of "Hey Joe".
Those are the only three I've seen, but Sonic Youth in a week, so, yay. :)
3. my favorite, AC-DC Black Ice 08 tour. Saw them in in october and it was the most kick azz concert i have ever been to. I was super close to them and i couldn't hear anything after the concert for a couple of days :D
I remember the Black Ice tour coming through here, though I don't think there were many people at the actual show, due, interstingly enough, to ice one the roads.

Probably not the three best that I've been to, but the one's that I remember the most are as follows;
3. David Byrne- First show I went to and I still love David Byrne to this day. I think I've seen him about three times now.
2. Against Me!- The first time I saw them was with about 20 other people and it was awesome. I just knew they were going to get big when I saw them but didn't want to face it. Now if I want to see them crowds are significantly larger and the band has lost some intensity sadly.
1. Leftover Crack and various other bands- Donut Social (http://shadowpress.org/donut_social.54.htm)
