Its not because my games are in bad condition. if any one has any ideas as to whats causing this can they please let me know.
And please don't tell me to buy a ps3 or a wii I don't want this thread to turn into a console war

It's the disc drive...I had this problem back in March. You can send it back to Mircosoft, and they'll fix it, but chances are it's no longer under warranty; it really doesn't happen to new 360's too often, unlike the RRoD. They charge $100 to fix it, and it takes several weeks.
If you don't feel like waiting, save your hard drive and buy a new Arcade. That's what we did.
It's a crappy position to be in, for sure.

Or you can get a lens cleaner. I'm not sure what type you need, but it actually workd for me, and I had the same problem.

See, we tried that, and it didn't work. It seems to be hit or miss.

Try cleaning the lens with some rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip. If that doesn't work, replace the DVD drive yourself. You can buy Toshiba-Samsungs for like $30 on eBay. If it's the same model DVD drive as your old one, just pop out the logic board and put it in the new one. If it isn't, you're going to need to flash the new one to work with your Xbox. If you're a novice with this stuff, flashing is a pain in the ass. If you need any help PM me.

Did you try different...err...types of cleaners? Like, I used a DVD one that didn't work, but a CD lens cleaner did. But then again, it probably is really hit and miss : [

Thanks guys for you help I will try to clean the lens but where is it located I tried looking for it but can't see anything that looks like it. I' not sure if it's still under warrenty I bought it less then a year ago because my original got the RRoD. It's just the arcade version if that makes a differnence. I don't want to have to go out and buy another xbox because it was just 5 or 6 months ago that I got this one

If your 360 is only 5 or 6 months old, you're still covered under the warranty. You should definitely call Microsoft; they only charge you to fix it if the warranty has expired, which is why we took ours apart and tried to fix it before we just broke down and bought a new Arcade.
If you're determined to fix it yourself, there are plenty of videos on youtube with clear instructions on how to take it apart, but be aware that this voids your warranty.
