Yeah! EA Sent it to me and I got The Simpsons Game yesterday! w00t! total paid for rock band = 180 minues 60 dollars that the Simpsons is worth equals = 120 dollars paid for Rock Band so far. Plus, I think that I will still be recieving another game cuz I got this game shipped before that generalized letter regarding the delayed free game. I'll update this if that does indeed happen.

wait what, im a bit Confused.
there was a bunch of people that put in warranty replacement requests for defective guitars/drums early on...like 11/20, 11/21 ish and they never had their requests fulfilled while people that put in their requests days later were getting their stuff in one-three day turnarounds. people started getting pissed and called to complain. some folks were offered a free game over the phone and actually picked the title they wanted. this guy is obviously one of them.

then EA realized they screwed up big time and sent out an email to the same group of people that were stuck behind schedule with their replacement order still unfulfilled. the email said details to come on how to get a free game for the inconvenience.

I did not get a free game - or even an email from EA. I placed my order for replacement on the 24th, and finally received my replacement on the 3rd. I did however get a 2nd replacement on the 4th - with all of the same info (tracking #, return RMA# , return tracking #). I'm going to keep the 2nd replacement as EA has no proof that they sent out a "double" order - yay for me!!! I would rather have the 2nd controller instead of a free game anyways.

Dude - that totally blows! Have you called EA to see what their deal is? It sounds to me as if somehow your RMA may have been deleted/put on hold. From what I've read here that does happen and all it takes is a phone call to fix the prob.

Good luck!

I have no interest in the Simpsons Game. I want me some Burnout Paradise. :D

I want to chose a game god damn it! Today i went to gamestop and asked them if they would trade me a new game for another new game and they said no. So if i get the crappy Simpsons game or even worse, Madden 08, i cant trade it in for the Orange Box. Damn it!

Question for the group:

I put in my order on Saturday. IGot a UPS tracking code.

It's now Wednesday, and it still lists the tracking code as "Billing information sent"....no sign of it actually being shipped.

Is that the norm? From reading here....it seems there are conflicting reports. Should I call ea support yet, or give it another couple days?

You do realize that this is stealing, don't you? Just because the company made a mistake and sent you two guitars does not mean that you are entitled to two guitars.

I am not looking to get into an argument about whether or not you feel that you have been wronged by the company, and feel that you deserve something for free. That is a separate issue. I am just stating that if it was a mistake that you were sent two guitars, that doesn't mean you can keep both of them. I would strongly suggest that you do the right thing and call the company to let them know what happened, and if at that point they say that you can keep the guitars, than all is good. If not, I am sure they will provide a pre-paid shipping container to return it.

Well I guess it's good that SOMEONE got their free game. I got the email a couple of weeks ago for mine, and I still haven't heard anything about it since. I'm not surprised though, considering how poorly EA handeled their quality control as well as replacement program.

OK, you may be right classifying this as stealing - but what about all of the consumers that bought a standalone copy of the PS3 game that can only play with a mic? Isn't EA basically stealing their money? EA never sent me an email with a status update of my request for a replacement. EA never sent me an email offering me a free game for my inconvenience. EA has been providing piss poor customer service to almost all of the consumers that purchased this game and ended up with broken controllers. I have even read posts about people requesting replacements the day the game came out and still not receiving ANYTHING almost a month later. I lucked out and received 2 replacements and I plan on keeping both

I am not denying that many people here have been wronged. There are a lot of problems, and no matter how much Harmonix tries to do, the fact that there are still problems this long after release means that we are not getting the experience we should be getting. I feel that everyone who bought a standalone copy of Rock Band for the PS3 should be entitled to a refund, and there should be an extension on the warranty length for everyone.

Keeping the guitar, however, is stealing. Imagine if you went into a store to buy Rock Band, and when paying, you accidentally handed the cashier an extra $20, or accidentally left your watch at the front counter. You would expect the company to do the right thing, and give it back to you, even if you didn't notice it. If you were to find out later that they knew you overpaid and didn't say anything, you would say they had stolen money from you.

That they are a company doesn't change the facts: They accidentally sent you something that you know doesn't belong to you, and rather than doing the right thing and returning it, you are choosing to steal it from them.

I can appreciate your situation, but rather than taking advantage of the company while you are upset, think about doing the right thing and returning the equipment which doesn't belong to you.

Darn...I wish I would have thought of that...I got NHL 08 and sold it on fleabay for $50...not bad but it would've been much simpler to have gone to Wallyworld...

So you can get credit at Wallyworld without a receipt consistently? I have Skate still wrapped (long story) and might need to get Mass Effect for it...

for those who say it is stealing,

It really depends who you talk to. I received an extra guitar, but was told i could keep it and use it for parts, but i was on replacement #3. so technically in my case it WOULDnt be. Just give EA a call. Talk to a supervisor, and explain the situation. Be honest, and most likely they will tell you not to send it back. Surprisingly enough, honesty helps.

Nah I think in this case he's in the right of keeping the extra, that way he has a spare in case anything goes wrong with it. He can send one back and still have another to use while he's waiting.

Yea, no kidding. My guitar broke within an hour of play time, and i put in a request for a new one that night. A week later I get this email apologizing for the wait and offering me a free game, but haven't heard anything since. I'm beginning to think they just sent that email out to take people's minds off the fact they were waiting so long for their replacement equipment, thinking that once they get the new gear they'll forget about the whole "free game" deal.

Um, orange box was published by valve, and distributed by EA.

While the Windows and Xbox 360 versions of The Orange Box were developed and published by Valve, the development of the PlayStation 3 port was outsourced to Electronic Arts. Gabe Newell, co-founder of Valve, has said, "I think [PS3 is] a waste of everybody’s time. - wikipedia

so technically, PS3 owners should be able to get a copy of orange box as their free game. but that is really up to EA.

Mass Effect is an action role-playing game developed by BioWare exclusively for the Xbox 360, which was released worldwide in November, 2007

Also the reason, as Microsoft was the publisher for this game (look at the front cover), but its now being distributed by EA (since they own bioware) Also, i believe the transfer doesn't take place until January 2008.

I'm sure this debate has already been posted on the forums more than once, but seriously, please don't post bad info, it took me 2 searches and about a minute of my time to find these facts.

Valve most definitely published Orange Box all on its own (the PC version at least). There are no EA logos or any mention of another company anywhere on the box... But I don't know about the 360 version.

innocuoussoul
12-16-2007, 01:02 PM
If EA were to be the publisher for the 360 one, then 360 owners would be able to request orange box as their free game. They are not able to because they only DISTRIBUTE the 360 version.

Electronic Arts announced on July 18, 2005 that they would be teaming up with Valve in a multi-year deal to distribute their games, replacing Vivendi Universal from then onwards.[5]

Regardless, EA did not develop the game, and only has the rights to distribute it. Therefore, THAT is why you cannot have it as a free game.

The PS3 version was specifically handed off to EA's developers, hence the reason why it SUCKED.

Valve was the company responsible for the 360 and the PC versions of the game.

I mean, if they published the game, and have distributing rights? why cant they give it away for free? I mean, they even developed the version for the PS3, so obviously you know something that the CSRs, their supervisors, etc know.

I have asked EA customer service a couple times about people already getting games, and they say you got it for something else. The guy is just trying to come up with an excuse on why they offered me something that I am actually not getting.

After actually speaking with the customer service person from India, I was told that the free games haven't been sent yet. I asked him who he thought was lying, the people on this website claiming they have received games already or EA, who has shown repeatedly that their customer service lacks in every way. He had no answer for me. Whoever is in charge of the free games, its not anyone who has an incoming phone number, so there is no way to speak with them without waiting for a call back. Let's see how long it takes to get that call.......

Greetings Rocker,

You recently received an e-mail from us regarding the status of your Rock Band shipment and our offer to also send you a FREE EA GAME. We trust that by this time your guitar has arrived and you’re rocking out!

We are working diligently to create a process to allow you to pick your FREE EA Game. Given that this is by far the busiest month of the year for our customer support team, we are still working out the final details – but we just wanted to let you know that you can expect an email with a list of available EA Titles and how to place your order for your FREE EA Game soon.

We appreciate your patience,

The Rock Band Team at Harmonix, MTV and EA

I love the "We trust that by this time your guitar has arrived and you’re rocking out!" line. I'm still waiting on the 2nd replacement and a replacement mic that I ordered release day.

I specifically asked for the reason why they couldn't offer it as a free game, and that is what they told me. This was from the CSR, the CSR Supervisors, and the PR Manager at EA. And yes, they do DISTRIBUTE the games on their online store... it doesnt mean they can offer it up as a free game, as they do not have the rights to do so, and its a matter of money. If EA gives away a game they have the rights for, they can do so as they please. But when they don't have the rights, they have to contact said company (ex: Microsoft Game Studios/valve/Bioware) and would lose money on the deal.

and you're a douche.

When an author (or a game developer in this case) signs a contract with a publishing company, they are in fact giving away the rights to their game in return for financial backing for the development and advertising of the game. If Valve had copies of The Orange Box sitting around their offices, they would be the ones unable to sell them, as they do not own the rights to the game. And EA would obviously lose money regardless of what game they are giving away (one developed by an EA owned studio or otherwise).

All I had to do to see about getting a free game was talk to someone that actually works in the US (rather than the Phillippines, which is who I got 9 times in a row.) But if you call during normal business hours (Pacific Time apparently) you can actually reach a CSR or supervisor in the states. I got them after my 2nd guitar and drum kit broke, and they offered me a free game of my choice off the EA website. He sent me an email, I responded with my choice, and I got the game before I got my 3rd guitar.

Also, they said that they could see an error in the RMA process and noticed that I had possibly sent two replacement guitars. I asked them if I could send back the second guitar that they sent if I actually got it and they said that I should just consider myself lucky. I got two guitars on my doorstep the next day, so at this point I've gotten a free game and a free guitar. All it took was 9 long distance phone calls and some aggravation. Lucky me.

I picked skate. I think it's funny how they are offering a free copy of the Rockband disc when it's EA's Rockband support offering the free game. Shouldn't the people getting this support already have Rockband? EA probably wants people to give the game to someone else so that they can make more money in the future by selling the instrument peripherals.

Good question, probably because it's the only game worth while that they have.
I don't want any of those games either, if they can send nfs pro street in other varieties why not the 360....it's the only game i'd take off EA
also would be nice if they actually sent these emails to everyone....seems they are going out like the replacements did...those of us who ordered first once again getting the shaft here

I picked Rock Band for the X360. Gonna give it as a Christmas present to a friend so we can rock out online.

I ordered my replacement guitar on 11/22 and still haven't received it (it's Dec. 18th). However, I got the free game email. I think the whole issue just shows how disorganized EA has been with their support for this game. Some people get games, some people don't. Some people get their replacements shipped on time while others don't. Some people can't get any help over the telephone. I don't think there's any one method to who gets the games, I think it's just overall crappy service on EA's part.
