View Full Version : More songs for girls.
I'm a male gamer, so lets get that straight. I love the hard rock stuff with a passion, but have one small problem. I typically, have women who come over with friends etc to party, and some have shown a great interest in Rock Band, but most want to sing. The current playlist is lacking in girlie songs.
So for who it may concern, please consider adding more girlie vocal songs to your downloads. This game has a lot of great potential to get more women involved with gaming, so lets make them feel welcome.

I most often play with my wife and there are not many songs for her to sing. I think additional female tracks should be included.
A No Doubt Pack would be a great fit, because they have some songs that would be good for each instrument. Verucca Salt would also be enjoyable. But really, bust out some Janis Joplin and it's on!

In a set list thread, I mentioned Lunachicks, Go Betty Go, Bikini Kill, Letters to Cleo, Siouxsie & The Banshees, and The Sugarcubes (though I think mimicking Bjork would be a challenge for both genders).
There are plenty of options out there that fit the Rock Band mold.
Both of you mentioned some great female artists. Most games out there don't appeal to both men and women out there, but Rock Band is the first game I've ever played and enjoyed that women seem to like too.

I agree and add the following.
Lacuna Coil
Heart
Joan Jett
Pat Benatar
Nightwish
Evanescance
All have a good balence of vocals, guitar, drums, etc, and span the range from classic rock to much heavier.

I'd like The Runaways, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, The Distillers, HorrorPops, No Doubt (Ska era), Lacuna Coil and I guess Evanescence would be alright.
Evanescance would be great. We guys would still have our songs, but at least we could play together on some of them. Great suggestions.

I'm in the same boat as many gamers here: My wife loves to play RB and has a tougher time with some of the male vocals.
She REALLY wants some more female leads to sing.
Oh...and (God help me) some Journey. I promised I'd post that request, but I'm going to bury it in this thread so maybe it will never get noticed.

I'd actually go to the Harmonix offices blasting Journey from a boombox held over my head to get them added.

I'm also a guy, but I totally support the idea of more "girl" friendly vocal bands.
A few bands I wouldn't mind seeing added:
Metric http://www.ilovemetric.com/
Rilo Kiley http://www.rilokiley.com/
Cranberries http://www.cranberries.com/
The Donnas http://www.thedonnas.com
not to mention bands like Veruca Salt, Elastica and the Runaways.
Cm'on HMX, the more girlfriend frendly the game, the more play time for me. Help a brother out here I'd appreciate it. :) (More than likely, any ladies here would appreciate it as well)

I 100% agree that there needs to be more songs women can sing. My boyfriend and I bought rock band to play together but I get frustrated that half of the songs are too guyish for me to sing the pitches for. Even some songs that have guy vocals that aren't so low would be nice.

The girls that come over here say the EXACT same thing. They wouldnt mind singing some higher pitched men voice's or even just song girls like to sing, such as Journey etc.

Just no Avril Lavigne. For the love of Mike no Avril Lavigne!
I don't think one Avril song would hurt any more than that one Fallout Boy song... besides, Avril is considered more of a pop genre than rock, anyway. As much as I like her...
The only problem I see with having such a lack of bands with female vocalists is for the girls and women who just want to game out and have fun, and don't necessarily want to go all the way with it and try to *ahem* gold star every song. And since this game is for both the casual and serious gamer, I do believe yes, there should be more female-friendly songs.
Using some recommendations, I've made a list with YouTube links of songs I'd like to see.
The Cranberries - Promises (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvdPVlBYDNg&feature=related), Dreams (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9AE8QQfx_E&NR=1), Zombie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyp5we2ySDo&feature=related)

Heart - Magic Man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Wa0alIWRiQ), Barraccuda (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpkitLUbeEg) (also in GHIII)
Alanis Morissette - You Outta Know (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbxNybJ1k0o), All I Really Want (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXCCv5ngyI0&feature=related)

Someone put on a really huge list of song suggestions The Bangles' cover of Simon & Garfunkle's "Hazy Shade of Winter", which I think is one of the best suggestions for this game I've seen on this forum for a female-lead vocal song.
I don't think one Avril song would hurt any more than that one Fallout Boy song... besides, Avril is considered more of a pop genre than rock, anyway. As much as I like her...

Very well thought out post! You couldnt have put it better. I hope Rock Band becomes the "itunes" of the music video game world. Where any song, regardless of genre could eventually make it here. As it stands now most of the songs imo are heavily male tilted.
Maybe its just their marketing plan....appeal to male gamers to get it in the house etc, then once its accepted branch out to other musical styles that people want. In other words we early sterotypical male gamers adopters create the buzz, then HMX gets things rolling. I can understand that if the initial playlist on the game consisted of 50% female songs they probably wouldnt have sold as many units initially.
Lets just make sure that they hear us when we say we want more songs that EVERYONE including women can enjoy too.

The Mamas and the Papas - California Dreaming
Jefferson Airplane (they make enough references to them in the game) - White Rabbit
The Runaways - Born To Be Bad
Heart - Magic Man
Pretenders - Brass in Pocket
Sheryl Crow (.. The commercial has a guy wearing her shirt) - If It Makes You Happy
The Cranberries - Zombie
Blondie - The Tide Is High or Call Me
Alanis Morissette - Ironic
Janis Joplin - Me and Bobby McGee
Le Tigre - My my metrocard... or some song where they don't curse as much
Bif Naked - I don't know enough about her, but I remember she had a song that wasn't bad

Thunderbirds Are Now! would be a good male band for female players, since the singer even sounds female on most of the songs (and that's his natural singing voice). And some more experimental Radiohead songs could fit, since Yorke's got a very high falsetto that he tends to whip out on those tracks.
But I'd rather some Heart and Joan Jett first.
Frankly I dont care what genre the "girly" songs fall into...rock pop...whatever. Just want to see more of them, and many great suggestions.

LOL. Blacks. It matters because of pitch. It's harder for the typical female to recreate a male voice. Not impossible, but harder. Plus girls wanna sing songs sung by girls. I think a pack for chicks would be a good addition.

You're not supposed to match the singers voice, just the pitch. it should be the same for both sexes. In fact, it's harder for me to sing Run to the Hills than any of the songs with female vocalists.
Girls want to sing songs by girls? Why? Do black people want to sing songs by black people too?
I'm not against more songs with girls in them I just don't understand your mentality behind it. If they're good, add them. I'm totally against adding songs solely because they have girls in them. Most rock bands only consists of men. Most of the best rock bands only have men in them. I'd rather have quality songs in a game no matter what the sex might be.

Oh, I can add more. :)
I forgot about...
The Donnas (already mentioned)
Garbage
No Doubt (ska from 1st 2 albums, mentioned)
And as somebody said the Hazy Shade of Winter cover by the Beangles is amazing.
Obscure and old, and not even a serious additions, L7 or Vixen for 80's Girl hair metal FTW. Then again half of the falsetto guys hair metal may qualify to some extent.
These suggestions are not about adding just anything to get more female leads. Many of these bands are good on their own. The added little hook they have is that they have female leads. I have never fully understood why there are tons of successful subpar male fronted bands, and it seems to take a miricle at times for a harder female fronted group to get any recognition. Most of the bands mentioned in this thread are good regardless of who is doing vocals.

These statements are soo old. No one is suggesting songs that are of poor quality just to get female or non white vocalists in. There are some awesome acts out there that should be represented in the game that are not white and male. Really, it wouldn't even be an issue if there weren't so few female songs in the game. We aren't making this a racial issue or a sexist issue, just saying we would like to see more diversity.

Ooooo. Sooo many good choices. For my number one, I'd have to say that we need some Kristin Hersh vocals. Probably either Throwing Muses or (more likely) 50 FOOT WAVE since her solo stuff tends to be actually solo with an acoustic guitar (although the latest album, Learn to Sing Like a Star, has some good stuff!) :)
Throwing Muses - Bright Yellow Gun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3z-BDz6BmY)
Throwing Muses - Ruthie's Knocking (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FkLd0MaDu8)
Kristin Hersh - In Shock (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFoWvu-86O8)
And because I want to give a taste of what seeing her live is like, even though it's amped acoustic and not electric guitar, and purely solo:
First part Kristin Hersh doing a live set at a Borders for Sunny Border Blue (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFX6vKGwEKM)
What you have to understand here is that she is *tiny*, and comes across as a very mild-mannered sort of woman. And she chats away a bit before the show, and then... she opens her mouth to sing, and you're like "How in God's name did they fit that voice in there!?!"
And finally, 50 FOOT WAVE. Showing that punk's not just for kids:
50 FOOT WAVE - Clara Bow (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQFgq6WVUyo)
50 FOOT WAVE - Sally is a Girl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-51Ays7eTcY)
(For more 50 FOOT WAVE, check out http://www.throwingmusic.com/freemusic/.)
In short: Yes, please, more female vocalists—I’m happy to sing any vocal at all, but more variety is good, and helps get more people singing. While anybody can sing any song, it's nice to have vocals that are at least somewhat close to your vocal range at times. Once people get used to the whole thing, I'm sure they'll be happy to sing anything, too. But you have to suck them in first. :)
(And: I'm all about getting more *lesser known* artists in the mix, too. One thing I never see people *****ing about in the GH3 vs RB *****-sessions is the fact that RB, along with GH and GH2 all have fabulous tracks from people most of us have never heard of as their unlockables. GH3 just has more famous people. This is the difference between caring about putting music into peoples' hands and heads and caring about putting a buck into your own wallet. </sermon>)

I whole-heartedly agree with this... a lot of the male vocals are just in the very wrong key for a female's voice. There's great chick rock out there... I'd love to see some of it in the game.

After bringing Rock Band to my friends house last night and laying with his girlfriend and other friends most of the night away, I want to agree with this. The girls wanted to sing while the guys wanted to rock out on the instruments more often, but their song selection was pretty limited. They tried a few of the 'guy' songs here and there, but would be nice to have some more 'girl' songs in there for sure.

I'm a female and honestly it's sometimes easier to sing the guy songs cause you can sing at whatever pitch you're comfortable with and it still registers. Some of the female songs have higher notes and if you can't hit those then to say it nicely, you're screwed lol.

I love the game but I'm always stuck playing drums or guitar b/c there aren't any songs really for us girls. The only good one is Flyleaf! We need more! Some Evenescence or Paramore or maybe MORE Flyleaf. More girls would play video games if the creators thought about us more. There's plenty of hard music out there w/ female vocals!

Yeah there definitely needs to be more female leads. I normally play with 2 females over here and the take turns singing, because there is no way I'm going to. I ususally switch off between the guitar and the drums depending on which of the 2 is singing because one likes playing and is good at the drums while the other is good at the guitar.
As far as there are any hardcore female vocals just check these 2 out of a very long list.
Kittie Brackish. Its definitely a challenge to play all around.

I would love some No Doubt especially to get all of Tragic Kingdom would be fantasic. More Garbage would be great as well.
Also, just out of curiosity for the guys out there(which I am one of them), would you sing a song that had lyrics meant only for a girl? For example, Just A Girl by No Doubt, I would sing that because No Doubt is awesome and my favorite band, but I am not sure if I would do that for most others. What about you guys?
Dr.stupid

I'm a dude and I would sing lyrics geared more towards a girl.
I think it's funny and a good indicator that your masculinity isn't an issue. It's not like you wrote the damn song.

I can't really believe that after this is what the 5th or 6th long thread requesting more female fronted songs that they haven't added any. At least none that anyone recognizes. Lets get some of those 80's rock goddesses in the mix. I can't see a reason to buy this game until there are songs by bands I at least recognize the name of and can sing on , I have no talent on the guitar or the drum line. We were so excited when this was announced that it was coming out because it would be a game my husband and I could play together me on vocals, him on guitar, and a buddy of ours on drums.

Im all for more chick bands. If your like me and can listen to just about anything download all the songs below. Some of these are grasping at straws, and more of "songs for the girlfriends/wives"
Pardon the weird cloggy post I lay before you
Paramore: Misery Business or Here We Go Againhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQQuIa3qsS0
Kittie: Will To Live or Brackish (Have to stick to more singing songs with them, the screaming can be a little too much)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcPBjT_c_rcHard to believe this was almost 10 years ago already.
Katy Rose (She is more pop but can rock from time to time): Catch My Fall or I Like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3h1Yow3LWU & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBGpijzIVgQ&feature=relatedBeware criticizers of Avril because this girl is her twin.
Juliette & The Licks (They are total RB material): Mind Full Of Daggershttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-0tznM6Uc4
Killola: Barrel Of Donkeys (It's funky, and Lisa Rieffel has awesome vocal range) or 10,000 Pound Ego http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBQMaFv3lCMBear with the singing.....it's live and she is nuts, the studio tracks are awesome.
Zolof The Rock & Roll Destroyer (Make Freezepop pop/punk and you have this band): Death Or Radio (Could be the game's theme song....well if they dont censor it) or Mean Old Coot
Skye Sweetnam (Yet another little pop star, but some of her songs are rockish): Hypocrite or Shot To Pieces(poppy lyrics, but fun drumming)
Otep: Almost anything off their latest album (it has less screaming)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlaKJoFomXkCall it a butcher of a Nirvana classic, but I always though Nirvana was a little bland anyways.
Skunk Anansie: The Skank Heads or Charlie Big Potato (Has awesome intro, and it rocks, has slow parts, etc.)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEp8yJPjedUThese guys are/were huge and this video should be checked out.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_J91dzdu34&feature=relatedGotta the song speed X .5
The Distillers (Almost forgot about them. We have QOTSA, why not have their singer's wife on RB) Beat Your Heart or The Hunger (Hellion has practically the same voice of Brody, and could do the covers) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBSJN0foQx8&feature=related & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YibJWMsmTs&feature=related

Yes they are suggesting songs of low quality to get female vocalists in. Evanescence, Paramore, and other garbage pop rock crap. They are suggesting that we need more poppy dumbed down pop rock stuff for females. This is what they want because if you tell them it's easy for a female to sing a song with a singer that has a different tone. They say that women want certain music, which is that dumbed down Pop Punk, or Pop Rock crap. That is quite sexist, as they are leaving out the fact that they like it. Any moron of any race, sex, or creed can appreciate bad music.
Some Blondie, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Jefferson Airplane, and heart would be good though.

I couldn't agree more. And it's not even that difficult. Actually, when I read this thread I was on the phone with my girlfriend at the time and asking her about this very problem. We both suggested that the problem is a pretty simple fix - more No Doubt (Spiderwebs would be awesome to play) and more Garbage.

I haven't seen any mention of Stereo Lab, my wife is more into them than I am, so I cant suggest any specific songs, but I know they have some good ones.
Hard to say if this would translate well for rockband, but Sneaker Pimps could be interesting... so would Portishead (Freeze Pop is heavily electronic and seems to work well enough, so these dont seem completely impossible)
Other ones good ones might be... Elastica, Luscious Jackson, Belly, Republica, Letters To Cleo, Sleeter Kinney, L7, Bikini Kill, The Breeders (some of these were prob mentioned already, sry if they were)
Good luck to anyway trying to sing Cocteau Twins! lol

If you like kickass female-fronted hard rock with a singer who actually sings and doesn't scream, you (and Harmonix *HINT HINT*) should definitely check out my band, linked in my sig :)

I'm all for Lita Ford, Pat Benatar and the like.
I'd love to see some Poison, Skid Row, Def Leppard, and Journey thrown in for good measure. Out of all the kickass 80's hard rock bands, the only ones to even get a song on this game are Metallica and Bon Jovi? WTF? Where's "Pour Some Sugar on Me"? As popular as Def Lepp were, not ONE frickin' song? C'mon! I'm a girl, and I can bust out "Sugar" like nobody's business!

My picks:
Liz Phair - Supernova
PJ Harvey - O Stella or Dress
Throwing Muses - Bright Yellow Gun
Neko Case - Hold On, Hold On (I'd love a Neko 3-pack, but that's hoping a lot)
Sleater-Kinney - What's Mine Is Yours Great vocals and so much yummy crunchy guitar
The Breeders - Divine Hammer
Hammerbox - When 3 is 2 (Not just pulling obscure 90's Seattle bands out of my ass for fun...I think the song would be perfect and totally appeal to the RB crowd)
Siouxsie & the Banshees - Monitor
Southern Culture on the Skids - House of Bamboo (Okay, I realize that request is totally ridiculous, but I simply love singing along to this song. It makes me smile so hard. Shake! Like a Snake!)
Hmm. It is sad that those are the only suitable female vocal songs I can find in my iTunes.

Actually, I was just listening to the Nellee Hooper Edit of 6 Underground by the Sneaker Pimps and thinking that it could be very fun in Rock Band. I'm not 100% sure how everything would translate, but there's definitely potential. I know I'd buy that DLC!

There are a lot of bands out there with female vocalsthat would fit the RB "formula" (good instrument lines with guitar lines featured and interesting drums).
I think some Rilo Kiley would really fit the bill!
Also, no one has mentioned Catatonia - they're from the UK and were never big here but they really rock:

I agree and add the following.
Lacuna Coil
Heart
Joan Jett
Pat Benatar
Nightwish
Evanescance
All have a good balence of vocals, guitar, drums, etc, and span the range from classic rock to much heavier.
Yes, yes, and more yes... these are songs most women would not mind singing.
Lacuna Coil
Heart
Joan Jett
Pat Benatar
Nightwish
Evanescance (not a fan but would play the song if a girl wanted sing it)
Last Rock Band party we had about 7 girls there, and that was the one complant not enough girl songs. DLC should began to include more songs with girl vocals please & thank you. ; ]

As much as I would absolutely love to see neko case on rock band, I think the inclusion of new pornographers is as close as we'll get with a song that features Neko.
If they do release anything by her, I'd be mad pleased.

Blondie's harder-rocking hits would be great in RB:
* One Way Or Another
* Hanging On The Telephone
Dudes might enjoy singing these, too...I know I would.
Melissa Etheridge's "I'm The Only One" rocks pretty hard, and is popular at karaoke.

Hopefully some of you dig my choices.
Nice band choices! More hard-rockin' songs from them:
Blondie: One Way Or Another, Hanging On The Telephone
Siouxsie: Cities In Dust, Spellbound, Candyman
Pat Benatar: Heartbreaker, Fire And Ice
Joan Jett: Do You Wanna Touch Me (Yeah! :D) <- Gary Glitter cover
More '80s rock w/female vocals:
Missing Persons: Walking In L.A.
The Go-Go's: We Got The Beat
Seconding/thirding The Bangles' "Hazy Shade Of Winter" cover. Excellent.
As long as I'm here, I'd like to call out the ridiculous "girly OR hard-rockin'" and "girly OR good" statements in this thread. If you think there are no good and/or hard songs with a woman singing lead, you really need to get out more.

I totally agree.
A suggestion.
Please provide some Downloadable Content for Chicks.
While songs from metallica, rush and what not are great, why not include some songs that are more for the females?
From Artists like:
Cheryl Crow
Sarah McLachlan
Liz Phair
Lisa Loeb
Dixie Chicks
Melissa Ethridge
etc...
The only reason I suggest this, a lot of times we have a group over for some Rock Band fun, usually after the bars and I feel like the chicks in our group get left out without enough songs with vocals they can perform. I know that it's 'Rock Band' and most of the songs aren't hard rock, but it would be awesome if you could make some available for download at least.
Please consider it.

i had a little get together the other night, and invited a whole bunch of people from work. guys and girls, the girls were ALL about playing, they thought it was hilarious to get on the drums, and try guitars. but, they mostly wanted to sing. either way, at the end of the night all the girls were talking about how fun the game was, but they needed more songs they recognized. i'm thinking
girls just want to have fun?
suddenly i see
everything - fefe dobson? maybe?
invincible - pat benetar?
there you go - pink?
walking with a ghost - tegan and sara?
i don't know if these are what everyone would want, but i could see having fun playing these with my girlfriend and our friends.

I don't really have anything to add other than my support for more "girl" songs. My wife usually does the singing, but she can sing some of the male songs better than me, lol. Those low ones like "In Bloom" tend to throw her, though, so it'd be nice to see.
I'm sort of shocked to see so many lead singing-wives playing Rock Band, though. I thought they were sorta rare :D

I don't know if you guys have ever seen veruca salt live... I did on Bush's Razor Blade Suit Case tour... Veruca didn't even sing lyrics... the two females that front the band made out the whole time they were on stage... Hey if thats what it takes to be famous cool... But their are other female fronted bands that have better music... I like that you pointed out my favorite female JANIS... Heart is another great band... Avril has been avoided thank god, I could only stand her songs once.... Atlantis morrsette's Jagged little pill album had some okay stuff... Sheryl Crow has a few good songs too... No Doubt would help out with two groups the one wanting a good female fronted band the other being the ska wanting crew... Reel Big Fish has a few songs with girl vocals but it's more duet stuff then straight female vocals....

You'd have to ask them why. Black people may indeed want to sing songs by black people. I'm fine singing the songs currently in RB, but then I'm a white male. ;)
The mentality seems to be, "My friend/girlfriend/wife/object-of-desire ;) likes Rock Band but would like to sing more songs that are sung by a female. If they enjoy it more, I get to have more fun playing RB."
So, they participated in a thread that promotes songs with female vocalists that they think would be fun to play and/or sing, not just because they have a female vocalist.
I'm a dude and I would sing lyrics geared more towards a girl.
I think it's funny and a good indicator that your masculinity isn't an issue. It's not like you wrote the damn song.
Heh. Yeah, I like to sing Evanescence songs on Karaoke Revolution. If I can sing it, I usually have fun.
I'm sort of shocked to see so many lead singing-wives playing Rock Band, though. I thought they were sorta rare :D
As someone who has a wife who enjoys Karaoke Revolution and sings on Rock Band, I'm not all that surprised.
I imagine part of the reason is that it's a lot easier to do well on vocals if you've never played before (assuming you can carry a tune at least somewhat) than to learn to play the (toy) guitar or the drums (especially since you have to do the bass pedal, even on easy). If they already know the song, then they've probably sung along with it already, whereas I've never thought about what buttons I would press to play a particular song on GH. :D This applies to anyone who hasn't played, not just females, of course.
I know someone who has said that she used to be intimidated by the idea of going into an arcade and trying a game, especially in front of people who already knew how to play it. Having spent a lot of time playing games (which many guys do) seems to make it easier to pick up new games, which I can only imagine makes it more frustrating/intimidating.
Anyway, I agree with most of the suggestions posted. I'd be more than happy to sing a lot of them, some of them I probably wouldn't even have to look at the lyrics.
I don't think I saw the Eurythmics ("Would I Lie to You?", "Missionary Man") and I'm pretty sure I didn't see Poe ("Angry Johnny", "Trigger Happy Jack (Drive by a Go-Go)"). They could be fun.

While I'm not necessarily in the camp of "we need to add female vocalists to Rock Band", I am firmly in the camp of "add great music to Rock Band" and there are certainly enough female artists who deserve DLC consideration.
I only noticed one mention of Rilo Kiley, and they would actually be my first choice. For those who don't know their lead singer is child-actor Jenny Lewis from the awesome nintendo movie The Wizard and they are a pretty phenomenal modern indie band.
Here is the video for Portions for Foxes (a PERFECT song for Rock Band)
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/70oeD9_R6OU&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/70oeD9_R6OU&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
While I would also love to see some Ani Difranco or Bjork added, I did have trouble thinking of songs that would be good for the game.
And last but not least where is the love for The Indigo Girls? Not one mention from anyone? My sisters were pretty obsessed with them when I was younger, and listening back I actually think some of their songs could work well.
Galileo (their most popular song) has a cool drum part, a decent guitar solo and one hell of a vocal track. You can watch the video here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTuSDNRJYmE (it won't allow me to embed).

Not that I think it's a bad idea, but The 5, 6, 7, 8's is a Japanese band. Unless they also sing in English, I doubt they'd add them to Rock Band. If they do though, then I'd like to see some Puffy AmiYumi.
By the way, who misses the show Hi-Hi Puffy AmiYumi? Cause that cartoon was awesome.

I do agree with the OP, when i have girl friends over we have to play the same songs over and over cuz there's not too much that they are familiar with/girly enough.. i'd love to see some more songs from female artists, or even just songs that girls would be able to sing or know! either way though I'm fine with the DLC so far, and the Boston pack will definitely add some new songs for my girl friends to sing ("More than a feeling") :)
This really is a terrible thread. "Songs for girls"? The very concept is ridiculous to the point of almost being offensive. Music isn't definted by gender. If your wife or sister or whatever doesn't want to sing just because the original vocalist is male, then this isn't the game for her. You play Rock Band to have fun and rock out, not to see which song matches your real voice the closest. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with female vocalists, but adding some of the terribly boring bands suggested in this thread just for that fact is absurd, and if the HMX devs have any sense whatsoever they'll keep doing what they're doing already.

Simply ridiculous on your part. My being male, I wouldn't have nearly as much fun singing "Roam" as I would singing "Wanted Dead Or Alive". It's simple common sense. For the people out there that don't have the co-ordination to play the instruments well enough (ALOT of women), and who do well at the singing part, it would be nice to have more variety. Again...common sense.

I agree, more girly songs. There are plenty of songs with a female lead vocal that are good enough to get in even if they are compared to male leads.
I'd like to see some heavy stuff like Kitty or more Flyleaf. The Donna's are cool. No Doubt (ska era not the newer pop stuff), Heart, and even some of the Pixies good songs have female vocals.
I'm a guy, and I'm usually not the singer. But I don't mind singing female vocals, as long as it's a good song.

My wife, who can't sing on key to save her life, loves this game. The Dixie Chicks would be a nice addition. I know the same people that would have cheered them if they would have talked badly about Bill Clinton but now think they should die penniless and homeless because they didn't agree with George W. Bush back in 2003 won't like it, but they do have some good songs that would be fun to play on Rock Band. It would also give the girls that come over (keep hope basement dwellers, it is possible) some songs to sing.

As a girl who sings and likes to be one of those girls that hangs out at the guy friends house to play Rock Band, I gotta throw my 2 cents in. More girl-range songs would certainly make it a lot more fun. They don't necessarily have to be sung by women. All of the new Boston songs are in a womans range. Anything by Soundgarden or Audioslave is well within singable for me. Some Lita Ford and Pat Benetar would kick a$$. Heart would be a lot of fun, but you gotta remember, Ann Wilson's vocals are well out of most anyone's range. I think guys would have an easier time dropping an octave on What About Love, than a woman trying to match the pitch. Stevie Nicks, the Cranberries, Joan Jett would all be pretty rockin'. Really, just something more than Juke Box Hero and all the Police songs.

Another chick speaking her two cents XD. My main complaint, singing, hasn't been so much the lack of female vocalists, since it's pretty much a fact of the rock industry that there aren't as many good female leads as there are male leads. My complaint is that there aren't that many female-range songs (and yes, male vocalists CAN be in female range, unless the singer happens to be a particularily high soprano and then well, she's probably screwed.)
To give an example of my range, I can honestly sing most of Black Hole Sun, in key, without octave jumping (bar the lowest notes, and then I have to pop up.) On the high end... well, I have trouble with I'm So Sick, it's just too high for me to sing without using falsetto. So, it's not like I can't sing the guy songs, and I have a heck of a fun time singing the ones that are in my range.
So, personally? I want some more alto female vocalists, or tenor male vocalists. That would be perfect for me and pretty much make my day. Lacuna Coil and Nightwish are definately groups I would like to see on there, and there's a brit band I love called Queen Adreena that would pretty much make my day (not that I expect it to ever happen, and she's another soprano singer anyway so it kind of kills my point about more mid-range music.) Garbage and No Doubt pretty much are no brainers. Heck, on the male side, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, more Jet or Red Hot Chili Peppers, Franz Ferdindand... there's plenty of bands that are within girl ranges.
*shrugs* Eh, to me, it just seems like the store has been inundated with fairly deep singers.

I'm sure Harmonix will get right on it, knowing now that you approve.
You're a jack*ss. . .
As long as the vocal's aren't too grating? What's that supposed to mean? Your presence on this forum is grating to me - Can I have you removed?
I think girl rock deserves just about anything they can put out for release, seeing this game is about 90% sausagefest.
Are you disabled? I wasn't even insulting anybody I was just giving criticism.
Yet, you are trolling me on the forums, saying I should be removed, and saying sarcastic comments.
What I mean by grating is annoying vocals, as in most pop music, and some female alternative/rock music. Stop trying to get a rise out of me.
As for my suggestion, why not: Evanescence, more Flyleaf, or Nightwish? I don't know someone else suggested them, but they're excellent choices.

He seems to be succeeding. I recommend ignoring people like this in the future.
As for the "more songs for girls" thing: yeah, I mean, that's sort of the plan. Things sort of just worked out the way they did in Rock Band. I think we'll see a more well-rounded catalog going forward.

For the record, you've attacked me as often as I have you. . . If not more often.
I just saw an opportunity here to even the score. I thought it was a stupid comment, but if you want to let bygones be bygones and quit trolling me as well. . . I'll back off.
And I do agree Evanescense would be a great addition to the game . . . as well as Flyleaf and Nightwish.
I will point out though that you started dogging me on one of my own threads where I had brought up the idea of Alanis Morrisette's Jagged Little Pill being released as an album. . . Practically every song on that album was a hit. It sold like 19 million copies and its great girl rock. What's not to like here? You definitely can't call her a sell out. . . it was her break through album.
Jagged Little Pill was the female antithesis to Nirvana's Nevermind.

Hopefully some of you dig my choices.

I'm a female and a vocalist, and I have absolutely no problem singing the male songs, but that's because I'm an Alto. Most female voices fall under the mezzo/soprano categories, so it's understandable that some of the lower pitches might prove difficult.
That being said, I want the following female singers/bands in Rockband not because of their gender, but simply because they are A.W.E.S.O.M.E!
Bangles: Hazy Shade of Winter (cover), Be With You, In Your Room. (For the person that suggested The Bangles: You are a genius. That's a band that perfectly straddles the line between Pop and Rock.)
No Doubt: Spiderwebs, Sunday Morning, Just a Girl, New, Ex-Girlfriend, Hella Good
Joan Jett: I Love Rock 'N Roll, Crimson and Clover, I Hate myself for loving you, ACDC
Blondie: Hanging on the Telephone, Atomic, Rapture
Garbage: only Happy When It Rains, *****, Push It, Androgyny
Pat Benatar: Love is a Battlefield, Invincible, Hit me with your best shot, Heartbreaker, Promises in the Dark
Heart: Crazy on You, Barracuda, Never, Alone
Cyndi Lauper: She Bop, Drove All Night (love her entire catalogue, but most of her songs wouldn't be classified as "rock").
Jefferson Airplane: White Rabbit, Somebody to Love
The Cranberries: Zombie, Linger, Ridiculous Thoughts, Promises, Hollywood
Alanis Morrisette: You Oughta Know, Perfect
Kelly Clarkson: Since You Been Gone (anybody that says they don't love this song is lying to themselves!)
The Donnas: Take it Off, Who Invited You
Pink: Just like a pill, Feel Good Time, Trouble, U + Ur Hand
Distillers: Die on a Rope, Drain The Blood, Hall of Mirrors
Bjork: Army of Me
Verucca Salt: Seether, Straight
The Go-Go's: We got the beat
Storm Large: Ladylike, Beautiful, Twised Jimmy, Fat Chick's Revenge
Breeders: Cannonball
The Sounds: Living in America
Evanescence: Call Me When You are Sober
Sinead O'Connor: Fire on Babylon
Tori Amos: Big Wheel
That's all I can think off the top of my head.
Oh, and Harmonix needs to get its ass on gear and bring Journey.

Seems like there are quite a few people in this thread who would like Evanescence... this pack sound any good? I'm trying to focus on songs that aren't too heavy on instruments we don't have ingame:
Evanescence Pack 01
Sweet Sacrifice
Going Under
Bring Me To Life
Everybody's Fool
Whisper
All That I'm Living For
This would be, like, the ultimate pack ever. And it would significantly boost the number of songs with a female vocalist :)

Yes EVANESCENCE would be the most awesome thing to ever happen to rock band! At least for me as a girl who likes to sing. She's got a kick ass voice, but isn't all over the map and is easier to sing along with.
NO DOUBT would be cool as well.
Others could include THE CRANBERRIES, and HEART, JANIS JOPLIN, FLEETWOOD MAC.

In what crazy world are Lacuna Coil and Evanescence "fun" to sing? In our truth you have to scream 90% of the song.
Barracuda is also not a fun song to sing (same as above)
You want a fun playlist to singing women?.
(I know I'm gonna get flamed for some sugestions, also all of the below have guitar, bass & drums so don't start with "They don't fit" argument)
Linger - The Cranberries
I Drove All Night - Cyndi Lauper
Jolene - Dolly Parton
Come Clean - Hilary Duff
Sweet Dreams (are made of this) - Eurythmics
Heart of Glass - Blondie
Joyride - Roxette
Waking up in Vegas - Kary Perry
Everyday is a winding road - Sheryl Crow
Ironic - Alanis Morissete
Every Breath You Take - The Police
Nightingale - Carole King
Torn - Natalie Imbruglia
It's Rainning Men - Geri Halliwell version.
Ray of Light - Madonna
Stoned - Dido
The Game of Love - Santana ft. Michelle Branch
Popstar - The Pretenders
7 Things - Miley Cyrus
what you waiting for? - Gwen Stefani
There it is I'm covering almost the best of rock pop since the
70's up to 2008
