Why are the mods so uptight lately?

I know, we're really cracking the whip lately by closing out posts that are blatently attack-oriented toward other users. Just because a post is "established" doesn't mean it is suddenly exempt from the rules of the forum.

A cliquish thread of regulars all gathered around mocking others' ideas and opinions. How does that promote any sense of health in the forum community?
