I love the RB series and play it way more than GHWT, but I hear GH5 is getting Nivana's "Lithium", "Smells Like Teen Spirit", and "Come As You Are". Those are some of my favorite Nirvana tracks. It makes me sad that they're not on RB :(
Any reason why RB can't get them? I mean, RB released pretty much the rest of the Nevermind album except those songs.

Could be a possible explanation for why RB didn't get 'em: GH may have gotten them first. Honestly, I'll probably rent GH5 just so my friends and I can play 4 guitar/drum tracks at once.

You're right about Lithium and SLTS being in GH5, not about Come As You Are...
And rumor has it Harmonix has got those three tracks and are just holding onto them. Don't worry, I'm pretty we will get Come As You Are, Smells Like Teen Spirit and Lithium some day. ;)

Obviously they planned it that way. Harmonix have secretly gotten the rights to every GH5 on disc song and plan on releasing it in a 30 dollar DLC pack the day that GH 5 launches.
Not true but wouldn't it be epic?

The first signs about Harmonix having Come as You Are, Lithium and SLTS surfaced just after the release of RB1 and unless Neversoft starts licensing for future games two years in advance, I'm pretty sure this is not the case.
Also, as far as we know Nirvana isn't exclusive, so GH having those songs means nothing for the availablilty of those songs in Rock Band.

No. Rumor has nothing about Nirvana. The only people who think HMX is holding on to anything are the tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorists who started this "rumor".

Oh. You're referring to that popular meme generated by the Forum Hype Machine which had no fuel save for one off the cuff remark from either Teasedale or Rigopolus that used a random album as an example to explain the ala carte method of DLC?

They already did that in GH:WT with Tool, Ozzy and Hendrix, yeah

Sadly enough they even did it in GH4. Jimi Hendrix and Ozzie had 2 and Tool had a 3 song setlist.

Well, there is always the song list that was found in the DLC files that mentioned the complete album and the loading screen that is set to appear only when you select the song "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

True but you gotta admit it seems a touch odd that they'd release every song from that epic album EXCEPT the three hugest singles from it?
Seeing them on the GH5 list makes me hopeful by confirming that Nirvana didn't stipulate that they leave those tunes out in order to avoid people pigeonholing them to just those few songs (Like how Radiohead is annoyed that most folks only know them for Creep. Ironically an issue they complained about in song through the tune My Iron Lung, the only other Radiohead DLC)
We are probably going to see SLTS Lithium and Come as You Are eventually and the odds are sooner rather than later!

I was reading through the set list earlier today and I find myself midly depressed. Some of my favorite songs are in it; Spirit of Radioi s my favorite Rush song, Sultans of Swing, Ring of Fire and Johnny Cash is going to be in the game, Feel Good Inc., the two aforementioned Nirvana songs, White Stripes, more Dylan and Bowie and Tom Petty songs! I just wish all of this was on Rock Band.
Though my excitement for Beatles Rock Band far overcomes that of 5 to 10 songs that GH5 is getting.

They are popular songs, from a popular band, that means Harmonix won't release them. Silly people.
Keep hoping for a Big Dipper 02 Pack, there's a better chance of that... or a Locksley 02 Pack perhaps.

My only consolation will be if they completely botch the game/charts like I hear they've done with Smash Hits.

Same reason both versions of Tom Sawyer, Limelight, Number of the Beast, Run to the Hills, Texas Flood, Take Me Out, etc. are different: cover != master.

I have all the GH's to this point and i think I can honestly say i am done wasting money on them, even if they have the music I really want.
Used to be the other way around for me, I bought the music I wanted no matter where it came from.
When it comes right down to it, the same always happens. GH on my shelf collecting dust and RB back into my xbox!!
EDIT: except smash hits, i rented it and took it back 4 days early

This would be the most epic move in the history of... life.
SIDE NOTE: GH5 has a live version of Rush's "The Spirit of Radio", so I would suspect that we will eventually be getting the studio version of the song. I use Willie Nelson's song from GH:WT as a similar scenario.

Yes, because an article in Joystiq titled "UNOFFICIAL: The Complete GH5 Tracklist" compiled by *site readers* (i.e., ordinary joes) is clearly not a "rumor."
The only meat behind this rumor is that the ESRB for GH5 lists the line "I'm so horny," which *probably* indicates "Lithium" (but could just as well indicate Ashanti, according to Destructoid).
But SLTS and CAYA have *no* meat behind those rumors at all.

The source on this is the same guy who leaked GH:WT's list early and this story came out 2 days before they "officially" released those first 24 songs and not shockingly the songs match the rumored list right down to what version the song is....

Its not that bad, I kind of like it and I don't see why an artist should be limited to one song per disc especially when its a big band like Nirvana. Obviously I wouldn't want a ton of songs from each artist but 2-3 is fine.

Did you not read the article? It says:
the staff at Joystiq concurred that site readers -- who never miss a beat -- would undoubtedly be hungry like the wolf for a full Guitar Hero 5 track list. Under pressure, we toiled six days a week and pulled together previously announced artists and trusted sources to obtain the complete (though not officially confirmed) set of tracks, soon to be transformed into rapidly approaching note charts. Why bother?
"Trusted sources" translates as "some guys who know some guys who know some other guys." Credibility factor: zero.

When I originally read the article I took it more as a wish list than anything else.
They simply took the artists that had been announced to be in the game and put their "I wish it was this song" interpretation.
Granted, some of the songs have been announced by Activision but not that list by any means.
Even if they end up with a killer setlist (which is highly doubtful), GH just plain sucks and I won't be getting it. Besides, we'll likely end up with a lot of those songs as DLC or in RB3 eventually.

I was looking over the setlist yesterday and I thought they had pretty good band choices but the song choices sucked so hard. I hardly knew any of them. It seemed to me that if the band was popular, they picked an unkown song, and if they weren't well known, then they picked their big hit. Also, a lot of them are already in Rock Band (I can think of 10 already in or coming) I will definately pass on this game.

No I meant to do page 2 where he talks about "Smells Like Teen Spirit". They can always write it off as talking about the album but not as a whole but talking about "SLTS" directly implies they had it.
