Band Already Exists on Xbox Live

My friends and I ran out and made a band before realizing that you couldn't play unless the leader was connected (which was our singer, and we didn't want to always have to sing - plus it was connected to a generic silver account) so we deleted the band and tried to start it again with a guitar playing leader.

When we tried to use the name again, it said the name was taken. Thankfully, "The" works in front of our name... but did we effectively screw ourselves out of using the band name we'd been so juiced about for weeks?

From the way I understand it, when you deleted your band, you deleted it locally on your Xbox, not from Live. So when it said the band name was already taken, it was taken...by you! :)

I'm not sure how long it takes those kinds of changes to get propagated out to XBL, or if they ever are, actually. The original band name might persist on Live forever...

I was trying to make the new band immediately after deleting the old one. I'll try again today and post a result.

I'm hoping that the soon-to-be-released community site will allow us to permanently purge "orphaned" bands so we can reclaim the names.

Harmonix, any hints? This is going to get to be a really big problem over time if it's not dealt with...

Thanks for posting that. Good to know that I'm not the only one with the issue.

It's weird, I'm pretty sure the band got created from one of my crappy local accounts people use when someone comes over (I believe it's "I Like Balls). I hope it got tied to one of the two Gold gamertags that were signed in at the time so it's not a mess when the community site opens.

I ran into same problem too. It would be nice to be able to reclaim my Bands name (not to mention allow us to be able to change band leaders when we need to!)

yeah, changing band leaders would be really helpful. my guitarist is the leader of my band. last night i wanted to play the drums while my wife played with her guitarist. it wouldn't let us do BWT without my guitarist being in there! what a crock.

Hopefully this isn't too old to be bringing up, but does anyone have any advice about how to go about claiming a band name that you had prior to deleting it? I would hope that band names are associated with the leader's Live account, but maybe not.
