It's good to know that this will be around lest you forget how to put one foot in front of the other...
Konami Digital Entertainment announced today that it is developing Walk It Out, a rhythm-based physical fitness title for the Nintendo Wii.
In Walk It Out, players stroll through a virtual world that evolves in sync with an on-screen avatar's footsteps. Skyscrapers, windmills, and lighthouses will spring up as players successfully step to the beat of a background music track.
Walk It Out uses the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to track player movement. The game also supports the Wii Balance Board peripheral, and is compatible with Konami's own Dance Dance Revolution dance mat controller.
120 songs are featured in Walk It Out, including "Boom Boom Pow" by the Black Eyed Peas, "La La Land" by Demi Lovato, and Jesse McCartney's "How Do You Sleep?"
Walk It Out is the latest Konami release to feature gameplay that focuses on physical fitness and exercise.
Previous fitness-oriented Konami games include Let's Pilates and Let's Yoga for the Nintendo DS, the Japanese PlayStation 2 title Aerobics Revolution, and the multiplatform Dance Dance Revolution series.

I read an article about this earlier, which said the game "simulates the excitement of a real walk".
I laughed.

This may be the Rock Band killer we've been dreading.
pretending to be a Rockstar vs. pretending to walk?
we're in trouble, I tells ya!

At first I thought this would be stupid due to the title but then I read about it and quite frankly I'm impressed. Certainly it isn't too dynamic and probably has set pieces that are added to the world based on how well you are doing, but it looks like it has potential to be a very interesting music rhythm game.

Or you could learn to play a real instrument or you could learn how to dance or you could learn how to become a plumber or you could join the Army. See where I'm going with this?
The game doesn't look to simulate walking, it looks to use walking as the means to measure rhythm. While it probably wouldn't happen in the game, imagine doing poorly on a song until the world around you in the game becomes this dystopian future. Then you finally get the hang of the song and start doing well and little by little you start correcting everything until it is a nice place to walk around in.
But of course lolwalkangames

Well the title is misleading then, because it sounds closer to DDR than to a walking simulator. Which is good, because a walking simulator would be one of the stupidest things ever. They should call it something that doesn't sound so lame. Even "Step it Out" would be better.

But see, the sun won't be able to sing along with you. That just takes all the fun out of the practical solution.

Me and the sun don't get along too well these days... I think he's been stealing gas from my 94 Civic.

Alright, alright. So just throw acid into the mix somewhere. Then everybody's happy, no?

There's an OUTside?!
So here I am
All on my own...
Looking around
Sun is shining...
Everything's moving
Distance stretching...
In all directions
And now I feel...
The wave inside
And now I feel...
The wave inside
I'll stop my crying...
...sorry...

Really? A game about walking? Go outside, people!
(unless you're me, in which case the construction going outside will leave you dusty and in danger of being run over by a bulldozer)
