Any powered USB hub will work. The 'U' in USB stands for Universal, so all USB hubs function exactly the same.

Same question along the same line, rather than start a new thread, figured I'd ask here - I want to use a USB hub on my 40gb PS3 but does it HAVE to be powered? I have access to a non powered Belkin hub I use with my laptop

Wondering if plugging in the drums and the mic into the hub would draw more than the 500mA that the non powered hubs allow. I'd be plugging the guitar into the spare PS3 port itself...

Everything I have read suggests that you should use the powered version. It's not about what the hub itself allows but more along the line of the power provided by the console itself. You could overload the port.

Well I ended up using the non-powered hub to plug in the drums and mic and it worked perfectly (prior to seeing the last post in this thread).. but I will probably end up purchasing a powered hub so as to not chance damage to the console.

The non-powered hubs work just fine. I don't think there's any danger of "overloading" the port. I'm pretty sure USB supplies a set amount of power, it's not like a circuit in your house where it'll just draw more and more.

Yes, USB supplies 500mA, no more. A powered hub just allows you to connect devices that draw this much power (not the peripherals), so it's not necessary.
