View Full Version : PS2 bundle delayed? So says Best Buy and Toys R Us

Why the complete lack of info on the PS2 version? I made some calls today (12/11) and this is what I got from Miami stores:
- Two Best Buys said the game by itself is set to release tomorrow (12/12), but that the bundle had "no release date."
- Toys R Us also had no release date for the PS2 bundle, saying it wasn't listed on any of their release date lists. He said "I think it comes out next month."
- A GameStop employee swore to me the bundle would come out tomorrow. But as he checked the computer, he saw the bundle wasn't listed on their databases anymore (just like it's not listed on GameStops website anymore) and that they were no longer allowed to pre-order the game.
What's the deal Harmonix and EA? Now it seems that the bundle may not come out before Christmas. And why the total lack of info? Nobody has even seen a screenshot of the PS2 version, much less info on the game modes are tracklist.

It's still beyond me why anyone would want to be playing this game on the PS2....

Well i have 2 kids and a wife. I cannot afford a ps3 or a 360. So we have to settle for ps2 which is fine with us.

Because I have a Wii and the Wii has been ignored by Harmonix.
I don't have a 360 or a PS3 and have absolutely no interest or intent on getting either (I'm sick of people saying "it's only $300".... well it's $300 I don't have considering I'm a college student graduation in the Spring)

I'm in the same boat as the member I quoted here.

You should trade in your Wii for a Virtual Boy.

And if you socked away the $160 for Rock Band on the PS2, you'd be well on your way to owning a 360 or PS3. But that's beside the point.
My guess is whatever stock is coming out on the release date is already sold out. Gamestop stopped taking pre-orders for the PS3 and 360 versions a few weeks before it came out, and many retailers even stopped representing that release date as 11/20, since they knew that it wouldn't be available to the general public on that date. So I would say if you have a pre-ordered copy (particularly at Gamestop), you're fine. If not, you're in for a wait. Which is just as well, maybe they'll get the instruments working perfectly by the time you get a copy. ;)

With all of the conflicting release dates given by retailers, plus the lack of any official word whatsoever, I have a suspicion the PS2 version has been delayed. I'd love for the game to be in stores tomorrow, but I really doubt that'll happen. Harmonix is doing a terrible job right now of keeping us informed on the PS2 version. Anyone want to remedy that *cough*hmxsean*cough*?

Yes the 160 is a chunk. But you are forgetting the $ 300 for the 360 and the $399 for ps3. That where the movey becomes a little tight. But anywho, we are just hoping for a rock band tomm! We stop at everystore that has a display just for a few min of play time just to tide us over.

I pre-ordered my PS2 bundle from ebgames.com a month ago or so. Two weeks ago the shipping date changed from dec 11th to dec 18th. Hope this info helps, as we all know that the date published by stores (or their websites) are far from "official dates".

Harmonix is not developing the PS2 version of Rock Band, so they would not have any knowledge of the status of the project. The port of the game is being worked on by another company (I can't remember the name), so EA would be the better company to pester for answers.

Just because you outsource the development of a port doesn't mean you completely remove yourself from the project. At the very least, Harmonix has been getting versions of the PS2 port as it develops to make sure it still plays the way they want it to. Harmonix should also know if it's being released this week, next week, or if it has been delayed. To outsource something and then forget about it would be careless, and I haven't seen anything indicating Harmonix is that careless of a company :p.

I was told by Game Crazy that they would get it in on the 11th. Pre-ordered it 2 weeks ago and they told me I was the only one who had. But since I pre-ordered more than 9 days in advance of the release they gauranteed it to be there  , hope this is still true

I know a LOT of people that only own a PS2. A lot of them have it only for Guitar Hero. I think it makes perfect sense for those people to get RB. They may not be able to play it online but those people usually have one or two friends that play GH, so Rock Band would be fun for local multiplayer. You can even hand the mic out amongst the friends that can't play guitar or drums so they aren't left out, like they are with GH.

Touche. EA has a lot of blame there too.
