View Full Version : How not to discuss DLC

With weekly DLC, there are a few posts that happen weekly. To be honest, they will get old quickly. So, to keep the boards cleaner, and keep people from making fools out of themselves, here are my suggestions for posts NOT to make about DLC.
"I don't see the DLC in the PSN!"
PSN updates on Thursdays, so you will have to wait until then, or pester Sony until they change.
"Why did HMX put this crappy song as DLC?! They should have done my favorite song!"
The beautiful thing about DLC is that you never have to listen to it if you don't want to. Regardless of whether you like the DLC or not, somebody else does. If you refrain from laying into current DLC you won't look like an idiot when your favorite song comes as DLC and everyone else says it sucks. If you must discuss a song choice, try to be productive and consider placing your request in the Ultimate Setlist forum.
"Why would anyone NOT download this song?!"
Some people don't have the money, others just don't like the song. Both are alright, so learn to accept it.
"How can you have never heard this song?!"
Not everyone listens to the full catalogs of every DLC artist. Even people who have been listening to rock for years can still be surprised. Instead of looking at this as a negative, look at it as a positive: another person might be a fan of the song! Rock Band is like some people's School of Rock, and HMX is their Jack Black.
"My favorite song should be DLC!"
Suggestions are totally fine, just keep them in the Ultimate Setlist forum. There is probably already a thread for the band you want to suggest, so you can add your voice to that list.
I'm sure there are others that I have forgotten about, but if we can avoid these kinds of posts from becoming a weekly occurrence, the community will be a better place for everyone.

Nice effort Bakkster but at the rate new topics get created here, this one will be on page 5 by the time the sun sets in Miami.
It would be great to have one sticky with all this FAQ answered in (Patch, hard issues, PS2, etc) but some fail to read anything already posted and find making new topics is often easier :(

I agree let's sticky this.

You forgot an important topic... pricing.
For every person who finds it an "aggregious" rip-off, there are people in line who find the price a "steal." Neither is right, respect the opinions of both.
Harmonix obviously took pains to try and address our concerns:
* Ability to buy singles
* Bundles provide a discount
* Cheaper than Guitar Hero
* Larger and continuous selection
* Good choices (my opinion, of course)

Why don't Me,Bakkster, & Huskie get together and make a useless post rule list and try to get it stickied and hopefully less people will make useless thread.

Does XBL update once a week on Tuesday? Or is it just anytime new content is available?

Yup - one's right and one's wrong. XBL such as DLC and such is on Tuesdays, thus the Dec 11 DLC announcement. Content patches for games come out when ready, but DLC is on Tuesdays.
I'd like to see a streaming radio station with Rock Band music so you can listen to the songs while not in-game. For the voice sections it would be nice to hear the nuances (especially for the covers). I'd like it for the DLC to see if it's a good cover, bad cover, or a song I may be interested in buying that I wouldn't think about otherwise.

In that case I CAN pester Harmonix about it and not just Sony. In more ways than one, Harmonix has catered to the 360. Tack another on the list.
It could be coincidence that Harmonix picked Tuesday as their DLC release day, but it just seems a lot more likely that they picked it because of XBL. If they would have chosen Thursday then everyone on XBL would be complaining about having to wait like us constantly-shafted PS3 guys. There's gotta be some compromise here.... maybe alternate Tuesdays and Thursdays?
/sigh
At least they both released on the same day.
Now I'm off to buy Assassin's Creed... gotta lube up again.

I have a PS3 and I'm perfectly fine with waiting the two days. Trying to create an alternating schedule just gets confusing for the developers, who would have alternating deadlines, or the distributors, who would have alternating cut-off dates.
It's two freakin' days. Nobody's trying to shaft anyone here. If Sony were to move their PSN update day to Mondays, I expect we'd see the DLC before the 360 does.

Arcade games come out on Wednesdays:
On July 12, 2006, Microsoft launched the "Xbox Live Arcade Wednesdays" program, the promotion promised a new Arcade game to be launched every Wednesday for the rest of that summer. After that summer Microsoft continued the program and also clarified that Wednesdays were the only day when new Arcade games would show up.
I believe DLC also can be released any day, but I'm not totally sure. Can someone find a link?

Yeah, it's not terrible I admit. It's just a bit annoying when I read on various websites that x DLC will be available on mm/dd, and I'm like "wooot, just a few days away!" and then realize the date isn't really accurate. Then everyone on message boards is saying how great the DLC is which I can't experience for a couple more days. It's not horrible, but it would be nice if they alternated or something so I can experience it while it's "new" for once. Since Thursday to Tuesday is such a long gap, I'd be happy with 3x a month on Tuesday and once a month on Thursday.

If that's the case then hey, why not move the update to Thursdays on the Harmonix side. Then everyone would get it at the same time and be happy.

My guess: The game was released on Tuesday and everyone got day-1 DLC. HMX wanted weekly DLC, so it comes out every 7 days on XBL, meaning Tuesday.
