Or is it just brand power playing its part?
Looking at all the recent comments and rumours flying around, does anyone else notice that bands such as U2, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and co and artists like Jack White seem to attack rhythm games for their own reasons, mainly restricting kids to playing plastic instruments instead of real ones.
But if you look at their comments, most of the criticism is aimed at Neversoft and Activision for Guitar Hero. Whilst i think some of the criticism is kind of silly, especially when the record labels don't agree with their acts and then release content (for example Jack White, Nickleback, Slipknot), Guitar Hero in no way shape or form promotes what makes the music. Gibson is gone and other than the rare in game advertisements of drum sticks and cymbals, they tout the game as a game. Nothing else.
We all play rock band and see what messsages we get upon loading the games, the continued support of Fender, Alexis and many other musical instrument creators. It makes you think if these artists are finally thinking.. Rock Band is better than Guitar Hero, for the right reasons? Or are they just name dropping the better selling game for its history?

I think 'Guitar Hero' means 'rhythm games' to most people. So I'd choose the second option, though I do think Rock Band is the better game.

This is the answer!
Really, HMX created a monster with the GH games that the name has become synonymous with music games.

I think of Harmonix as Frankenstein and GH is Frankenstein's monster. :p

Squaretriangles's statement is correct.
You know what got Lars Ulrich to negotiate to make GH: Metallica? His kids were playing Highway Star and he decided, "A Guitar Hero Metallica would be cool."In case you didn't get what I said, his kids weren't playing Guitar Hero. They were playing Rock Band.
I see the same thing at electronic store chains like Best Buy. I hear so many things, like "Are these made by the same company?" "So is this the sequel to Guitar Hero or something?" "Do they have any Lil' Wayne? I'll only buy it if it had Lil' Wayne."
Trust me when I say that ignorance makes up 25% of Guitar Hero's sales. Those who buy Rock Band know what they're buying, also to mention that they also LIKE what they're buying.
I've seen many returns of GHWT, people saying things like "This isn't the game I wanted," because kids could mistakenly ask for Guitar Hero for Christmas when they really wanted Rock Band.
