View Full Version : TV Lag - Harmonix Published List of TVs?

Hi everyone, I'm new to these boards (I'm normally one of those ;) gamefaqs players), but I'm definitely not new to RB. I wanted to create a topic because I know some HMX peeps occasionally lurk here and they might pay heed to what I'm saying.
Anyway, the purpose of my topic was to express criticism having to adjust TV video/audio lag in RB. I was thinking it would be a really good idea if Harmonix maybe published a searchable list of current TVs on the market and the recommended calibrations.
I own a Stratocaster 2, and yes, the auto-calibration feature is great. However, it is not perfect. If I do the same test twice in a row, I sometimes get 10 ms off from the previous reading. I don't want to sound pretentious, but this error does create some noticeable error in my playing (I'm not a pro, but I think I'm decent - gamertag is same as username).
With RB, I feel that some user-generated support has been extremely helpful. I am a big fan of Keldon.net and its superior presentation of RB stats. A user supported site of TV calibrations might be a really good idea too. Nothing is more frustrating than embarassingly failing out in front of people on an easy song on a new TV, when you can nearly FC Painkiller on the TV set your are used to.
Oh, and if any HMX people are reading, 3 songs we need are: I Ran - Flock of Seagulls, Godspeed - Anberlin, The Chemicals Between Us - Bush.

Rock band isn't a universal remote.

Yeah HMX. Go out and buy 5,000 TVs and start testing. Now!
Seriously, if this is so important, then start up a community driven website for video console calibration.

To answer your question I would say no, it would just be to crazy. HMX has the automatic calibration for this reason
And I will agree, Godspeed by Anberlin should be in rockband

That would be impossible because the calibration numbers change based on a number of other factors. What system you're on, what hardware revision of the system you're using, which cables you use, which instrument(s) you have, the picture settings on your TV, the hardware revision of your TV, whether or not you run sound through another system, the list goes on. You can't just look up your TV's model and expect someone else's numbers to work. You have to calibrate it yourself.
I've found the best method is to do manual calibration ten times, average the numbers, and use those. I'm not exactly at the top of the charts, but I can gold star a little more than half of the songs I have on guitar, and my calibration numbers from that method feel dead on.

Not to mention the fact that once you throw in audio receivers and different surround sound setups, you've got nearly an infinite number of configuration possibilities here.
Coming up with such a list just isn't feasible.

Not to mention heaven forbid if you use a splitter to hook up multiple game systems to one tv port like I do. It's a really screwy system and thats why I love the RB2 guitar's built in auto calibration. Unfortunately my strat recently broke so I'm waiting for my Beatles bundle to come in for just that reason.
The Beatles guitars/bass have auto calibrate built in too right?
On another subject does anyone know why they never bothered to build in the auto calibration for the drumset? Seems a bit unfair.

This. If Harmonix could they would but there are just too many different kinds of tvs. Also Godspeed(or any other Anberlin songs) would be AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, welcome to the RB forums! Thanks for posting.
As several other posters have already pointed out, there are a whole lot of variables to consider when calibrating that prevent us from putting together a list like you've suggested.

Davidshek is right on the money here. It's not just tvs, it's also speakers, receivers, home entertainment set ups, game console, lighting, proximity to tv, wired vs. unwired, RB vs. third party hardware, etc. Once you take all of this into account the number of variables is astounding. I think the auto calibrate is pretty darn reliable all things considered.
Still if anyone has put together a list of calibration settings in different set ups I'd love to see it.
To the OP, hopefully that answers most of your question. As for the band suggestions, I'd recommend hitting up the Song Request link at the bottom of the page to let us know what you'd like to play. Rock on!
Welcome to the forums! Suffice to say we include a calibration tool (as well as auto-calibration with RB2 instruments) because we simply cannot buy and test every single television that is currently available. If someone wants to set up their OWN, FAN RUN SITE that collects this data then I do believe that position is open ;)
However, you can always follow this handy-dandy thread with tips on proper calibration:

As for your song requests, your best chance of being heard is by using the 'Request a Song' feature, located with the bottom links on the main pages of this website here:
