In short answer, yes, you need at least 1 other person.

Solo tour is like Guitar hero career, just play a song list.

When I heard you needed more than one person I thought it was absolutely ridicolous, makes me REALLY not want this game, but alas I'll get it anyway.

So, it has a solo mode and online just like Guitar Hero AND you have the band tour mode and that made you not want it? Okay.

Give someone a hamburger and they'll eat it with a smile. Give them maine lobster tail and they'll complain about the color of the plate it's on.

whats the differance

Solo World Tour is, like has been said, similar to GH (and thankfully much different) where you have a single player (you =D ) with a single instrument of your choice.

Band World Tour requires at least two characters with two different instruments, and can have up to four. So in essence, you can play an instrument and sing by yourself in the BWT. Or if you're really talented, playing bass and drums at the same time (I'd like to see this!).

GH 3 Career mode:

Play songs one tier at a time in any order to unlock the next set.

Surprise encores

Boss Battles

Earn cash to spend on outfits, guitars, finishes, characters, videos, and bonus tracks.

Win.

Rock Band Solo Tour:

Play as Guitar, Drums, or Singer

Create your own unique character from hundreds of thousands of combinations of looks and clothing

Play songs in any order in tier in order to unlock the next set of songs.

Earn cash to spend on new clothing and looks for your created character.

Play the bonus tracks, one unlocking the next.

Win.

It's generally the same... the "encore" tracks in GH3 and "boss battles" being the gimmick for GH3

The created characters and ability to play three different instruments being the "gimmick" for rock band.

So the bottom line is... if you are only ever going to play guitar and you don't care one bit about things like created characters, then you probably need to decide what difficulty level you prefer (GH3 on Expert is much harder) and which songs you prefer (Rock Band has mass amounts more DLC)

I would suggest Rock Band for the simple fact that there's almost nothing that GH3 does better.. (Myself and dozens of reviewers agree that the Boss Battles are a negative) with the exception of maybe the encores. (which were a nice touch, I must say) while rockband offers the exact same experience as a SMALL part of the entire game.

The online play for Rock band is more robust, the BWT mode is incredibly deep compared to the One-off co-op career for GH3 and the list of extended features wouldn't fit on the back of the whole GH3 bundle's box when it comes to Rock band.

Just my opinion, though the fact remains that Rock Band is a much more expansive experience over all.

one last thing...

If you are the type who plays ONLY for the uberness of being the greatest plastic-guitar legend on the planet.. I would suggest GH3 as it is much more difficult and there seems to be a lot more "uber player" competition at the extreme expert level.

For everyone else... there's Rock Band.

It is called ROCK BAND not Rock Guy. It is about the group experience, not the solo player...

I'm getting pretty talented at flicking the strum bar with my tongue and beating the skins at the same time.

Or was that too much information? :D

The fact that BWT is 2+ players only makes me not want it, and the crap set list, and the crap square notes with that almost worse than GH2 note hit window makes me not want it XP

Solo guitar mode even with expert won't be very challenging to me, but drums and vocals will be since I'm gonna start on easy for both having little experience on both and wanting to tune up a bit. Online should be/will be fun, but no battle mode makes me ad =[ I love battle mode.

Than again, the customization of everything you can customize and the sheer huge options for everything are what REALLY make me want this game alot, along with SOME songs.

I've cleared through Expert guitar in a day.
Expert drums in a handful of weeks.
I don't sing, but I'm working on the Hard Vocal career (which I'm thinking about restarting on Expert, actually).

Wahhh, there's nothing left for me to do.

Oh wait. I'm also playing BWT solo. Guess Harmonix IS allowing us to access all the content by our lonesome selves. Imagine that.

You're obviously more interested in the solo aspect of the game than I am. It's definitely not as challenging on the guitar as the Guitar Hero songs (for the most part) but it has its moments.

I don't agree that the setlist is appreciably worse than GH3. I don't find the square notes a problem, the change is irrelevant to me. I haven't noticed any effective difference in the hit window either. It feels like a seamless transition.

Band World Tour with guitar/vocals is fun and a challenge. How about that?

Again, battle mode isn't particularly interesting to me either. I'm more interested in co-operative band play than versus. Different strokes.
