Anyone got some tips on what to buy or what to do to prevent my drum pedal from breaking? I'm getting Rock Band for Christmas and I don't want the drum pedal to snap in half on me :( any tips on what to do to prevent this from happening?

Don't wear shoes while playing, and dont stomp (keep your foot on the pedal all the time)

I saw some diamond plate reinforcement plates, i think i'm gonna do that when i get it.

basically all you have to do is not hit it hard it only takes a soft tap
also like someone already said dont wear shoes and leave foot down

I've had mine since launch, and play for a few hours each day, and no breakage here.

I don't wear shoes, and I keep the pedal pressed down between beats (like it suggests in the tutorials). I think 99% of the broken pedals are a result of people stomping or wearing shoes when they play.

I don't even wear shoes when I play on a real drum kit (I'm more accurate with my shoes off I guess), so it was pretty natural to take them off with Rock Band as well.

We wear no shoes here as well and ours broke just under the orange part, but our relacement has more built in strength (still plastic) but seems alot more sturdy.

These void your warranty. If anything goes wrong after you install it your screwed.

Make sure the pressure is going right on the spring, NOT behind or in front of it. Your pedal shouldn't bend if you do that.

One thing that I did, and it doesn't void your warranty, is replaced the spring that ships with the pedal with a weaker spring. You have to take the pedal apart in order to do it though, and if you are willing to risk it its deffinately worth it because the plastic doesnt bend at all anymore and my pedal pretty much wont ever break.

i hate to keep harping it, but mine broke and i go barefoot and keep it pushed down.

the major flaw i see is where the pedal meets the metal rod right at the base (heel).

all the pressure from the spring pushing up against your foot goes to this spot, and it has the least amount of plastic and no reinforcement at that point.

these really are fundamentally flawed and need to be fixed. using diamond plating won't solve the issue i had.

^^ truth.. barefoot/keeping the heel down aren't gaurantees that it will prevent the pedal from breaking

there's really no particular way to play that's going to prevent the pedal from breaking.. people's pedals have been breaking in different spots, through different playing techniques, with shoes/without shoes, etc..

i'd say maybe look into reinforcing the pedal.. alot of people have said it helps, i even read a post where a guy simply taped like 4 or 5 pencils to the pedal to give it a little more strength.. that's what i'm gonna start looking into soon, is reinforcing the pedal.. it never hurts to at least check out some modifications people have made - it might save your pedal!

A couple of us who reinforced our pedals have posted on this thread:

just make sure you don't do the fix in the first post... i guarantee that that dude's pedal will break again

That's exactly where mine broke. The piece of plastic there is less than a centimeter thick. It was poorly designed considering that this is probably the area that takes the most abuse.

well, we've had our second pedal break in as many weeks. Our drummer is a woman who weighs about 110 pounds and drums barefoot. This is obviously terrible construction.

To all of you who think drumming barefoot and being very careful about how you play, should perhaps have bought the game 'Yanni Band' and not ROCKBAND. wtf?!? we should be able to wear combat boots and stomp that pedal if we want to, the game cost enough!

anyhow, as for "fixing" broken pedals, nobody's mentioned the obvious tool for the job. Duct Tape. We splinted our second broken pedal using 1/4" steel bars and plenty of duct tape. So far its survived a couple sessions. Our last pedal didn't last through one.

Ow i tried that and it hurts when the beater comes back and hits the top of my foot. You must use a lot of finesse.
