I'd guess about a 7.

What I said about it in another thread:

Brüno was entertaining enough, although some of the reactions from the people in that movie were utterly disturbing. An entire Dallas talkshow audience booing when Cohen, who is still really holding the fake flamboyancy back at that moment, says that he 'just wants to meet Mr. Right' is a painful reminder of how rampant homophobia still is in some parts and social groups in the US. There's also a bit that's utterly disturbing where he interviews parents of child models, asking them what they're willing to let their child do in the photoshoot. Their answers make you want to call child services right away.

I too am more interested in the audience reaction than the actual film

I was talking about an audience in the film, though. Not about the theater audience. Just to make that clear. :)

Oh, that's true. I remember the previews has that large black lady that gets upset when he talks about that baby. I'm looking forward to those reactions, but I'm worried that like Borat, the funnier ones may be scripted.

I'm most looking forward to seeing how unsuspecting older couples in the theatres (if any go at all) will react to the movie :)

I liked Borat kinda, and Bruno seems to be hillarious; and lying somewhere in all the hijinks, is a message that tells people how the world really works.

It doesn't sound like it was simply his saying that about "finding Mr. Right" that caused the audience to react how they did. An excerpt from an article I read here: http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/ent/stories/070509dngdbruno.938a93.html

He brought out a black baby that appeared to be about 18 months old. The baby wore cowboy boots on the wrong feet and a T-shirt with the words "GAYBY" across the front. He told the crowd that the baby ate sushi and guzzled Starbucks lattes and was taken often to all-night parties.

"He said that, if the baby wanted to have a sex change when he turned 18, he would support him wholeheartedly," Leseman says, "but if he turned out to be straight, he would disown him."

Brüno told one man he had "some friends he would like him to meet," to which the man replied, "The only friends of mine you're going to meet are Smith and Wesson."

Brüno showed slides from a family album, such as the baby wearing shackles to symbolize the slavery of his ancestors, being attacked by a swarm of bees and – this is the one that prompted Leseman to walk out – the baby on a cross.

Wheaton says that, at one point, Cohen had so outraged the crowd, she feared for the baby's safety.

"The baby starts to stand up in the carriage," Wheaton says, "and Sacha is not paying a bit of attention to what the baby is doing. My friend leans forward to grab the baby, and when she does, Sacha starts cursing at her, really violently."

Not sure how much of this actually went into the film, as I haven't seen it yet.

The "Mr. Right" comment got its own set of boos separate from the boos, shock, and anger from the other circumstances of the interview.

I actually have seen the film, and as Myst says, the 'Mr Right'-comment, which is perfectly innocent, gets its own audience-wide set of boos. The camera pans over to the audience after the comment, so nothing is edited out.

The truly insane, over-the-top stuff that Cohen does comes after, and the audience outrage to that is understandable... but that initial reaction shows a very, very ugly truth about that studio audience.

What's the big deal about Mr. RIght?

What's the big deal about Mr. RIght?

Cohen comes on a talk show as Brüno, still relatively normal other than his flamboyant clothing. He is introduced as a single dad. Everything's fine. He's asked how hard it is to be a single parent, to which he replies something along the lines of how it can be lonely and how he still hopes to meet Mr. Right some day, thus explicitly revealing his homosexuality to the studio audience for the first time.

The studio audience, in response, boos him.

Cohen does some really wild and outrageous stuff after that, and the way the audience reacts then is understandable... but that first set of boos is raw, ugly homophobia on a relatively large scale that's embarrassing for any civilized nation. It made me cringe when I watched it.

Oh, now I understand. That's pretty dumb if you ask me.

I agree that it's disturbing and embarrassing, but at the same time, I'm not surprised. It was filmed in the south, and there is a LOT of racism and homophobia still rampant down there.

Went to go see this last night. WOW, talk about over the top. It takes a lot for me to get offended watching a movie, but I was actually getting a bit uncomfortable watching it. I thought Borat was pushing the envelope; that is nothing compared to Bruno.

Also, I completely agree with Lex. The homophobia in the film was absolutely shameful and disgusting. When the crowed booed when he said he was looking for Mr. Right and hurling *** slurs at the cage match (or whatever that was) was downright embarrassing.

Don't get me wrong, there are a few really funny parts, but I doubt I'll be watching this one again.

He's Austrian. Anyways, yes... he goes to America to become famous because he has lived his entire career in the spotlight as an Austrian fashion show host until he gets fired.

I'd give it an 8

It's a great, hilarious movie if you can leave any and all prejudice against homosexuals you may have at the door (and not take Cohen's jokes any more seriously than he himself does).

I've seen it twice so far and, while it was pretty great, Borat was still funnier but I think it's safe to say that Brüno's more fearless :p

Favorite quote (not funny without context...just uncomfortable WITH context lol): "but I REFUSE to pay for Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium!"

Good call
It was funny at some parts, but there was a little bit too much unnecessary *** sex and/or male nudity to be overly enjoyable.
Maybe I'm just a little mad because it paled in comparison to Borat, but still.
My favorite part was the very end for 2 reasons, the first being Slash and Bono and the rest of those guys and the second being the fact that it was over.
