how can i download songs from rbn??
If you live in Europe, I guess its a good chance you cant. On XBox I guess you need to 'cheat' by creating a US xbl account and then buy the songs.. This I guess would allow you full access to RBN. Something like that. On ps3 and wii only part of RBN content is made purchasable from the store.. I have ps3 and store shows 180 RBN songs.
This is... I can't really express how angry I am. Once more countries are made unequal and Europe gets a splinter of the short end of the stick.. for the umpteenth time.

1 - if XNA isn't available in your area then there is nothing HMX can do about it.
I wonder if when HMX rejiggers the XNA stuff for PSN and Wii if they could do so for the 360 versions for the countries where XNA isn't available (I mean while they're already messing with them)

Ah ... at first I thought I was getting the 'not available'-error (or something similar) because I am 'silver'/free.
Still sucks that we do see this feature even though it simply does not work though ...
Let's hope that this kind of stuff changes now they're under new management.
I'm sure it's been listed somewhere deep in this thread, but I'm not sure how many pages I'd have to sort through to find the answer, so I'll just ask. What are the songs that have been pulled for download? I don't mean songs like Blondie's Atomic, which can still be downloaded, I mean songs that have been pulled completely so that no new buyers can buy them, like Revengers.

"Revengers", "Footloose and Fancy Free", and maybe "Tunnels of Vision". I can't check the latter because I already bought it a long time ago.
Tunnels of Vision is offline too. I didn't get it, I regret it now because with RBN 1 closing soon, even if it's ever put back out, it'll be put on RBN 2.0 and I'd want the original version in my RB2 library as well as the current. I have the other two though. I wonder if I could "buy" it off someone else and do a license transfer.
Or even better, for it to pass peer review before RBN 2.0 comes out...

Dunno if this has been asked, but Have Nightwish, epica, or even within temptation been contacted yet regarding getting their stuff on RB? With the influx of amberian dawn it's almost a crime Nightwish and Epica have not been on the service.

None of the RBN authors have announced them yet. Doesn't mean they haven't been contacted though. You have 3 options for getting an artist into RBN...
1) Just keep waiting
2) Contact them yourself and refer them to one of the RBN authoring groups
3) Contact them yourself and author the songs yourself
I just wanted you to keep in mind that you do have the option of contacting them if you really want them. The reason we're getting so much Amberian Dawn is RockGamer had gotten the entirety of Amberian Dawn's first two albums. They are still releasing all of those songs.

Caught Ewo (Nightwishs' manager) a while ago and basically if they release things they want it to be open to the whole potential audience so if they (makers of Rock Band/Guitar Hero) want a song come and talk to them they're open to talk. So I'm suspecting it's unlikely through RBN. Hoping to catch the band in a couple of weeks so will bring it up again with them and see if there's anything likely.

Actually, Firewind's Head Up High was released on RBN and then it was on Power Gig (heh) and then World on Fire was released through RBN, and recently that song was DLC for Guitar Hero, so anything's possible.

Ewo doesn't manage Firewind though :P Obviously I'm still hoping to get something from them but don't know. There's a track on LBP2 so hopefully that'll raise their profile stateside and we'll see an increase in likelihood from that. As I said though at last contact they weren't particularly enthusiastic, unless you've swiped something and that's a sneaky preview of RGS' latest ;)

Well I meant that if a track goes on RBN it could also be GH DLC, making it available on both platforms. I think GH's official DLC is a bit heavier on the metal than RB's so it's probably more likely that GH will make Nightwish official DLC than it is that RB will. However, Nightwish are pretty big so I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them as official RB DLC as well.
And nah, I'm not in a position to be giving out teasers. :p

I can't vote for Bang by Rockapella with my dollars because I don't have an XBox, but it's why I bought RB3. PLEASE, release Bang for the Wii. Right now I'm crushed because I spent $50 on a coaster; I can't return it because I opened it when I heard that the song had released. I already had Guitar Hero, and that was enough for me; I could be a loyal RB customer, but that can't happen if I have to sell my disc at a loss w/o ever getting to play it.

Unfortunately, the Wii isn't getting any more RBN songs due to a combination of the process of porting track to the Wii is quite difficult and time-consuming, and Wii players weren't buying enough to make it worth it.
Even so, calling RB3 a coaster is a bit rich. If there are seriously no songs on the disc that you like then I don't know what's wrong with your taste in music. :p

It's not that I dislike all of the songs, but I have no need of another rhythm game. I would NEVER have bought it if I knew that I wouldn't be able to download Bang, so it is a wasted $50. I tried checking the forum before I bought it because I was wanted to make sure that it would be compatible after the RBN change (I was going to buy whichever version I'd be able to get the song on), but I never found anything saying that Wii DLC was being discontinued. I tried so many searches in so many places... I'm sure it was there but, since they were still making releasing new discs for the Wii, it never occurred to me that they weren't actually supporting it anymore.
Best case scenario now that seal is opened is that my brother cuts me a deal on his XBox before he moves and hope that I can trade my Wii disc for an XBox one (fat chance).
I bought the game in January, just before they discontinued service it looks like. It's just very disappointing that the company is still putting out a product but cutting their support. They might as well not get people's hopes up in the first place. At least 1 platform got it. It's just not worth giving RB any more of my money if this is the best they can do.

They're not cutting support for the Wii, they're just not porting RBN DLC to it. Like I said, the porting process was time consuming and clearly Wii users weren't really using RBN, so they decided it wasn't worth the time. They're still bringing official DLC to the Wii so you can't say it's not worth seeling the Wii version (plus, as I mentioned, the setlist on the disc is already large and diverse).

I'm a new RB customer and they cut the feature I bought the game for right after I bought it. I'm not saying they don't have songs for the game, I'm saying that they don't have what I bought it for and they didn't make a big announcement about it that I saw. It wasn't worth breaking the seal. I don't need an extra rhythm game, I already have Guitar Hero: World Tour, and RB3 doesn't have what I bought it for, so I'm out $50 (less whatever I can get for it). All the songs in their library don't change the fact that they have my money and I'm ending up with nothing.

If you really don't care about any of the other songs in the library you should have waited with buying the game until the one song you're interested in was released. Even IF HMX had not decided to kill WII RBN there was never even a guarantee the song would be ported over to the Wii...

With the errors coming up as validation errors is this a problem with the installation of the software? I'm playing around with the midi that was used in hopes to find something.
Any thoughts?

Yeah I thought you knew that, hence my snarky comment. But yeah, we're working with the label, but with gh going down in flames everything has been slowing down as all the labels are getting gunshy about licensing stuff out if the genre is going to go away.We all know it isn't but to them GH was the big name of the genre and it just folded so now it seems everyone out there is getting worried they are wasting their time or something.Hopefully this blows over soon and business can get back to normal.

I'm just talking to metal blade about collabing.Usually the label decides what bands they want to bring over. Now if I had MY PICK I'd work with these bands :Armored Saint, Between the Buried and Me, As I Lay Dying, Behemoth, Lazarus A.D., Job For a Cowboy, Amon Amarth, The Black Dalhia Murder, Cannibal Corpse, Evergreen Terrace, King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Unearth, White Chapel, Cradle of Filth, Slayer, and the Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza.Of course that's just what I'd pick, and IF we do work with the label they might want us to work on something entirely different.

You can download it from error420 but it never made it into the store. See once a song gets passed in the review process it goes into quarantine. While it is there, a link is formed from MS (since RBN is run off XNA), and you can buy these songs before they hit the store. Before the song hit the store the uploader decided to do some revisions of the song, so told HMX to not release it into the store. While it was in revisions the uploader stopped working with RBN and the song was never finished. So it never officially released into the RBN store, and that link from error420 is the only place to find it.Add to the fact that the uploader was EMI, and they've since abandoned RBN, the chance of this track ever coming to the 360 officialy, and being released on PS3, are pretty much non existent.

Songs haven't been released in a few weeks because Harmonix has been updating the creators site for RBN2.0, so keys and harmonies can be authored. The first 2.0 song just came out yesterday, and we should be seeing more slowly trickle out from now on, until people get more comfortable reviewing keys.
I remember reviewing being so slow when RBN was first released, I can see the same happening again for a couple of months. By the end of RBN1 there were RBN songs flying everywhere weekly, keep up the great work creators.

That bugs the hell out of me. It gives a false impression of the Rock Band Network to bands, labels, and fans who think it's some kind of customs platform or something. I see people asking on legit RBN videos how to make customs, and frankly, the level of misinformation about RBN is unsettling to me as an author.

Yeah I guess that is one way to curb it.
On the one had it does give out the wrong message to labels and artists that all of RBN might be people just using their music without permission.
But then on the other hand if it wasn't for the custom scene RBN wouldn't even exist in the first place. I know a good number of our authors cut their teeth on the custom scene.
Quite the pickle.

While that may be true there's difference between making customs in private and posting them to youtube. There's nothing gained in posting to youtube other than bragging that can be found elsewhere and through less detrimental methods.

I agree. I made customs before RBN, but I always kept them private. I never even got to play many of them, I just did them out of boredom and curiosity.
Personally, I don't have a problem with customs videos in general, but I have a problem with those labeled "RBN" as if they were official songs, whether that was the intention or not. It looks bad on the RBN as a whole and further adds to the misinformation about the Network.
I think that two things need to happen in order to curb the misinformation:
-Wider advertising of the RBN and what it's about
-Taking down videos that claim to be RBN but are really not, or that are falsely tagged RBN
That's not to say these two will solve the problem outright or maybe make a significant enough impact, but I do believe they are necessary first steps. Most people I talk to who know something about Rock Band (not counting people close enough to me to know I'm an RBN author) don't really know much about RBN until I tell them about it. In addition, I think that excepting five or so artists, nearly everyone I'm working with had no idea about RBN until I explained the concept. It would be easier to get artists and labels on board if RBN was more widely known, and it would certainly help sales.

The customs videos are just one element of the issue, the name itself is actually part of the problem. Consider the GameInformer post (http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/03/25/dragonforce-to-debut-on-rock-band-next-week.aspx) about today's official DLC. They say that Dragonforce "will hit the Rock Band network next week." Obviously, it's not, it's official DLC. But "Rock Band network" is a logical, albeit incorrect, term for the overall catalog of downloadable material.
So part of it is us stuck having to enforce a semantic separation of two logically related yet factually distinct terminologies so that one may be allowed proper definition and application to its related entity and we're talking about doing this with humans and the media so good luck with that...

I'd personally consider the overall RB infrastructure as the "Rock Band platform" and our setup as the "Rock Band Network." Maybe a more widespread use of "platform" to refer to "all encompassing areas of the Rock Band system" would help create a distinction.
It all leads back to my first point; Rock Band Network needs to be more widely advertised. When you have hardcore RB fans who don't know what RBN even is (I'm willing to bet there are some), then you know you need more exposure. And for a platform whose appeal is to get artists more exposure, it's all the more crucial.

This really bothers me, too.
Do you have any suggestions for how we can reduce the amount of misinformation floating around? (By "we", I mean both the RBN community and Harmonix.)
Hunt them down. If they are so dedicated to making charts with no personal gain, why not recruit them to the Rock Band Network and ask them to take down their customs(and if they don't, flag their videos). We always need new recruits

Apparently not. Anyone with a PSN account got an e-mail about this and it's been reported on a bunch of different gaming sites as fact.

I doubt they're making full charts though. Mose of these types only make the charts they want to play, which usually means Expert guitar only.

There is a bit of a delay as they prepare to switch the pipeline over to RBN2.0. They have said they will make up the missed weeks, i.e. if they miss one week they'll release 10 the next week.

The RBN subforum could really use an indexed thread of all answers to RBN-related questions similar to this one. (http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=215183) That should help from having the same four questions come up every week.

For the Psychostick fans out there, I just got back from seeing them here in Seattle(an awesome show btw) and heard directly from Rob "Rawrb!" Kersey(their lead vocalist) that they have the song "Beer" completely charted and ready to go into the first steps of getting into the RBN. They've just been really busy with the new tour and working on the new CD to get through all the legal aspects of getting the song into the system. Hope something happens soon.

Norwegian developers can sell indie games, but Norwegian customers can't buy indie games. It's a moot point however, since only US developers can sell RBN material.
Current supported countries to buy XNA games: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, Japan, Sweden, Singapore and Spain

May be just you. Here's what you can check:
1) Has it worked before? Could just be your internet. Give it a little time.
2) Are you in a supported country? (US, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Sweden and Singapore) If not you can't download RBN songs with a native gamertag.
3) Are there parental settings on your console (360 only)? RBN songs are technically unrated, so if there's any parental settings at all you can't download. To test, try to download a demo of an XBox Indie Game (I personally suggest Sequence, but the game you pick is irrelevant). If you can do that, it's not the settings.
4) Can you download regular RB3 DLC? Try to download one of the free songs, so you don't spend money. Could be issues contacting Harmonix's servers.

Are you going through the in-game store, or through the external Music Store app? RBN content is not available on the external app, but the in-game store should work well.

I haven't been able to access the RBN store since August, which is a shame cause I had planned to pick up a bunch of tracks from my wishlist. At the time there were three or so threads mentioning this problem. One user apparently got it working again after deleting the Xbox RB Music Store app, but that didn't resolve the issue for me.
Does anyone know if Harmonix removed the in-game store from RB2?

Ok, I'v been playing RockBand since it first came out, But I haven't played it proper in a long time and noticed about RBN. Would anyone like to just briefly fill me in on what exactly it is? At first, I thought it was just for people to upload their own songs which people could download, but I'v noticed a few mainstream bands have some songs on their.
When RB3 first came out, I remember that I could not download any of the songs, in what made me think I had to pay extra to have access to them. I went on RB3 earlier for the first time since it came out, and noticed that I can actually buy them now. So has Harmonix decided that anyone can buy just a song and play it?
I have alot of catching up to do, so please fill me in :), have they changed the who RBN so everyone has access? Can songs be pulled down etc. as I swore I saw Paradise City on RBN.

The Rock Band Network not only allows artists to upload their own songs, but others who can gain the rights to upload songs from other artists. These people are known as "Authoring Groups." Examples are Fairwood Studios, That Authoring Group, RockGamer, and Alt-Strum Productions. A lot of these groups have gotten a hold on record labels such as Century Media and Fearless Records, and are able to upload any of the artists under those labels that the labels will allow them to.

RBN is a way for people to put music on rock band. most of the times people hire an authoring group to make the charts etc. for them.
some mainstream bands also do this, but some people also got their own songs on it

if you are on xbox you can get all RBN content if you're account is from one of the countries that allows for XNA content. (from the top of my head: US, England, Spain, France, Canada, Germany and maybe some more) if you're on PS3, 5 songs will be ported over from Xbox to ps3 once a week. on ps3 it doesn't matter what country you are in.

songs can be pulled, but this happens very rarely once they hit the in-game store.
if you download them from XBL dashboard however, then there is a slightly bigger chance they might get pulled.

I'm from England, and I remember when RB3 first came out, it wouldn't let me download any RBN song, would just say "Unavailable", but when I went on it yesterday, I could download any if I payed for the song.

they always stay in the RBN section, not really any reason why they should go to the normal dlc parts.
of course there have been bands that have had dlc in both the RBN and the normal DLC, but those were different songs

And to explain why there's no reason- other than Pro Guitar/Bass availability, RBN songs are now functionally identical to official DLC. (That's not always true of RBN songs released before March 2011, unfortunately.) Our authoring standards are the same or derived from the official standards, our tools are the same or derived from the official tools. The differences that do exist are minor and programmer-y and you should never notice they exist.
(And maybe he's confusing Disturbed with Drowning Pool, which does have a song in RBN.)
