If I start a BWT with 4 people and want to change to two people then can I continue playing with the smae career that I had with 4 people or do I have to start a whole new band

Yeah you can drop the other players without making a new band; you need a min of 2 though.

The leader has to stay in the band; other than that you can change people in an out as you like.
