Well, as some of you may know, David Bowie is one of my absolute favorite artists. Very few other artists have been able to predict trends and alter their image as much as him. He's a chameleon.

He has so many different sounds and eras, and so many great albums.

He's also collaborated with so many great musicians and producers.

Does anyone have a favorite David Bowie era, song, or album? What about a favorite musician who played on a song with him?

Off the top of my head, these are just a few of the great musicians/artists he's worked with:

Brian Eno
Iggy Pop
John Lennon
Mick Jagger
Mick Ronson
Queen
Robert Fripp
Stevie Ray Vaughan

and numerous others.

My favorite Bowie album is probably Hunky Dory.

Some of my favorite David Bowie songs include Changes, Queen B*tch, Life on Mars?, Aladdin Sane, Moonage Daydream, Fame, Rock N' Roll Suicide, Panic in Detroit, and Ashes to Ashes.

David Bowie's influence over music is undeniable as well.

Your thoughts?

Who is David Bowie?

lolkidding.
He became all but redundant after Scary Monsters though. He's done well in the past, and certainly he's written a few good songs since, but he'll never be on the cutting edge again. Also, find the video of him playing I'm Afraid of Americans with Sonic Youth. It's awesome.

i think everything up until scary monsters is pretty awesome (with the exception of pin ups and the self titled), with the occasional really good tune after that point...

favorite albums are low and hunky dory... favorite song is "quicksand".

I do so enjoy the music of Mr. Bowie.

I only have The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars and Young Americans though.

"Heroes" and Low are my favorite non-glam Bowie albums, you should check them out.

David Bowie sucks. All he does is dress like a woman and sing terrible songs.

Whoops, that was supposed to be after Robert Fripp. I think I hit enter and forgot that SRV was under what I was typing.

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars is one of my favorite albums of all time. There isn't a bad song on the album, and it's also a concept album. Very cool.

All of his albums from 1969 to 1980 are great (minus Pin Ups and David Live). Let's Dance has a few good tracks though. I'd have to say my favorites are "Heroes", Scary Monsters, and Station to Station.

David Bowie is an artist I can really pin point that got me really into music. Helped me discover a lot of artists through his work (Brian Eno, Mott the Hoople, T.Rex, King Crimson, Velvet Underground).

In some cases. But his sarcasm detection tends to be good most of the time.

One of my favorite David Bowie songs is Aladdin Sane (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2y9inP4CqE), mainly for the crazy piano solo.

I got my copy of Ziggy Stardust around last Christmas, and I didn't listen to it too much.
But it still grew on me. I've kept a few tracks on my ipod - Five Years, Soul Love, Starman. And after having Moonage Daydream in RB for awhile, that grew on me. So I've picked up the other tracks.

His songs have a certain feel to them that seems unorthodox.

I love David Bowie. My favorite artist from the 70's.

As far as albums, Low, Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, and Young Americans.

My favorite songs are probably "Golden Years" (underrated IMO), "China Girl", "Heroes", and "Moonage Daydream"

Yeah Bowie is my favorite solo artist for no solid reason. The Man who Sold the World is one heck of a ****ing great tune :)

Hmmm, best Bowie songs are probably "Heroes" as everyone says (loliwroteitright), Saviour Machine, I'm Afraid of Americans and All the Madmen.

His post was pretty clearly tongue-in-cheek. Few would actually say "all he does is dress like a woman and sing bad songs" seriously, and I can't imagine trident doing so. Jus' sayin'.

I'm not a fan of David Bowie, but then again I'm not a fan of much of anything outside of my two favorite genres.

Space Oddity (alternatively titled David Bowie) from 1969 is the only Bowie record I have, fixing now.

Phenomenal songwriter, singer, performer, musician, and entertainer. The amount of influence he has had on other artists is ridiculous, as well.

If I had my druthers people who hate David Bowie would have their taxes doubled and their dogs kicked. Kind of like what New Jersey's government does to people that don't like Bruce Springsteen.

I love Ziggy and Hunky Dory, but my personal favorites of his are the Brian Eno stuff and Scary Monsters. I can do without most of Young Americans. The 80s and 90s were pretty spotty for him (to put it kindly), but I think Heathen and Reality were both pretty respectable releases for a guy who peaked decades earlier.

I don't care for some of Young Americans, but his Berlin trilogy is phenomenal. It was such a change from his previous work.

His albums before (and including) Let's Dance are all pretty great.

There's a reason why I have a poster of him up in my music room.

Did you know that David Bowie is not what we would traditionally refer to as "human?" He is, in fact, pure, undiluted, concentrated win. This is science, ladies and gentlemen.

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars and Hunky Dory are works of perfection.

Young Americans and the Berlin trilogy are also fantastic, though I must admit I prefer glam Bowie.

Just don't mention Never Let Me Down or Tin Machine, and you can keep the eargasms a'coming.
