There is a problem with the GH2 controller, though. I took mine apart to confirm the problem, in fact. See, I play lefty in real life and figured I'd play left handed. Should be fine? Well, not quite.
When I have a series of fast repeating notes with an extra one thrown in, I should be able to add it and keep the first button down.:
Right handed: (strumming fast)
Held G
Held G
Held GR (add R)
Held G
Held G
In this case, if playing lefty, adding the note kills the first one - it thinks I'm doing a roll-off. What I get is:
Lefty(reversed notation)
Held G
Held G
Held RX(missed green note, despite holding green *down*. red cancels/overrides green instead of adding to it and only registers red)
Held G
Held G
So what I have to do as a result is:
Held G
Held G
(lift fingers *entirely*)
RG(chord)
(lift fingers off entirely again or roll-off super-quick)
Held G
Held G
Won't work without lifting my fingers entirely off of the first key to make the chord.(can't just hold it down, hit the strum bar, then and just add the extra note, as my son can playing right-handed). So the only way to get through it is:
G
G
RG(chord)
G
G
(hitting each note and the strum bar individually for each one, timed right. Nothing held down, ever. Possible, but very tiring.)
The software isn't working or the hardware has it reversed somewhere. - and I worry about Rockband having the same controller issue, since the PS3 controller looks to be virtually identical to the PS2 one inside.
EDIT:I thought that this was just the way it was done, so didn't notice it until I saw my son's hands barely moving playing right handed(who ever looks at someone's hands playing, right?). It's as if you play left-handed and the notes are reversed, but the roll-on, roll-off still is working right-handed, which is now opposite.(usually not a problem for solos, but murder on rapid repeating notes).
P.S. I'd pay extra for a left-handed controller in Rockband. A much higher percentage of musicians are left-handed than normal(music being a more right-brained activity) - maybe 15-20%, so it would be a great option to buy separately(keep the righty for your friends/two player mode of course)
