So, I just got my RB1 disc the other day(don't laugh, I'm from Australia) and it seems I can only play as a vocalist, which is my least desired position. No matter what I do, if I try and play without a mic plugged in, it'll give me an error saying I need one. If the mic is plugged in, then I can go ahead and start playing but, as you might've guessed, only on vocals.
Help please?

I just tried to play guitar and my wife drums...nothing??? Both devices can control the PS3 menu (move along the menu to select the game) but once the game starts, the guitar & drums do nothing

OP, when you navigate the menus use your guitar or drums to make the selection. If you use the PS3 controller, it expects you to be a singer.
jdb0832, check the controller numbers assigned to your guitar and drums. If they're greater than 4, reassign them to a number between 1 and 4 using the System - Accessories option. The last Sony patch is the cause. You may have to check while in game btw.

Also make sure your PS3 is connected to the Internet so it can download the latest patch for RB1. Without that patch, your GH guitar won't work.

Ahh so, the games themselves have patches. Is there a way to get this patch without connecting the ps3 to the net?

Nope, that's the only way.

As annoying as it was, i managed to connect it, update and now it's working fine. Though as someone mentioned would happen, my guitar keeps getting assigned to number 7 which is particularly annoying but I'll deal.
Thanks all for the help
