I'm a huge fan of MaSu, and they would be perfect for RB! :D
However... all of you contacting bands/labels should also mention that it can be a good idea to contact HMX first. If they're interested in getting their music in the game, maybe HMX is also.

Well, contacting the bands directly can inform them they don't even need to license the music to RB and they can just use RBN and do it themselves.

Yes, I know the potential benefits of doing it the RBN way. My point is that they should know that it's not the only possible option. We're not talking about unsigned garage bands here...

I doubt this would be very effective for bigger name bands, as they most likely won't care about me. Plus I'm sure Harmonix will do their share of marketing for the service. But I will get my friend's talented band to try and do it so thats good I guess.

Source? :/
I remember reading/watching HMX saying that they were wating with a song creator until they had something more functional than the GHWT failure of a music creator. Maybe this is it.
I also wonder, how will they let artists charge money for this? And how much will the artists profit from the songs? And can the artists make charts without certain instruments? Will users have a limit of how many songs they can upload? How is this going to work out with licensing? :O
I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HOW THIS TURNS OUT!

Ive contacted Jimmy Urine of Mindless Self Indulgence. They might have a few songs that can be edited for the game. I asked him to respond with whatever information he could give me.
Hello, Mr. Urine
I just wanted to make Mindless Self Indulgence aware that Harmonix, MTV Games, and the Rock Band Platform are making a gateway for indie bands to get their music on Rock Band. Basically, the band or some engineers are able to create the songs for the game, create the charts for music IN THE GAME, set the price, and publish it to the Rock Band Network. I know there are some good songs of yours that do not feature harsh language and would be very fun on the game.

I'm pretty sure they would have charged in here yelling to stop if that was the case. Plus, how is it backfiring? They're releasing a medium for bands to get into the game quickly, and we're telling those bands of that medium. It'd be dumb to release something and then keep it a secret, no?

Anyone tried to contact Trent Reznor? Im sure he'd definetly be up for this considering he likes messing around with new technology/new distribution methods. He was also the first artist to ask to be on Rock Band (before RB1'S release). So if any bigger Artists were to get involved, then i'd espect he'd be a good bet

HMX said not to do this about approaching bands for REGULAR dlc. That was long before RBN was announced. They haven't said anything one way or another about it in reference to RBN, but I'd think they'd be OK with it, since that's sorta the point of the whole project.

Just in case anyone is wondering, a HMX employee said in the official thread to contact any bands that you want in RB and tell them about RBN.
Here's the quote:
My suggestion to everyone is if you know a band that you'd like to have in Rock Band... Tell them about the Rock Band Network.
Also, keep in mind that the launch will be (at this point) US-only, in terms of submissions.

This is something I would really love to have clarified. What does it mean? That the copyright holders have to be US citizens? That the user clicking on Submit has to be a US citizen? That the user clicking on Submit has to be a user registered with a US account?

I'm pretty sure you have to be a US resident to use XNA so that's likely where the limitation comes from. Because like most features (Netflix etc.) for Xbox are exclusive to the US.

For example, im pretty sure HMX have contacted Paramore in the past... Nor does Paramore deserve to be on 'The Network.' Some bands are just meant to be 'XBL Marketplace' Bands. Get it?

Sorry for the double post but Matador is now part of the Beggars Group and the whole group would be involved according to their publicist which would include 4AD, Rough Trade, Beggars Banquet and XL Recordings (which may get tricky as those are British labels but they have some cool bands: Smiths and Radiohead come to mind).

I know for experience that in the music business sometimes artists and groups get very excited about something new for a very limited period of time. Since RBN is going to be live in the Fall I would suggest a bit more care when contacting the artists. You could potentially burn your "hype window" by announcing something that isn't necessary available on large scale right away. With others I guess that the sooner they know, the better they can prepare, so I think it's up to personal judgment who to contact right away and how to involve later.

Hi, this is just a big fan of your band that would love to see your inclusion into the Rock Band Series. Recently Rock Band has created a new part to the game, called Rock Band Network, where any band with masters of their songs can create and sell their music for download in the Rock Band Music Store. What this means is that your band's song could make it onto Rock Band without having to go through all of the liscensing issues. This is a very new thing and I would love to see (Insert Band Here) make their debut in the series. I think that your songs, would be some of the more fun songs to play on the game, especially because of how (something positive about their band) they are. Also, for every download that you get in the store, you get a cut of the money that the buyer pays. Anyways, I would appreciate it if you could get back to me and send me your response. I don't need anything much just a "nope," a "maybe," or a "yes."Thanks for your time. Here are the links to the information below. I would love it if you could give them a glance.

Sadly Weird Al seems unlikely, as most of his best material is just a cover with different lyrics.
Happily, all we have to do is get the originals in the game and memorize the fun lyrics ;)
Gump anyone?

He means play Lump, but sing the Weird Al lyrics. :) You could do the same with "Pretty Fly for a Rabbi" and other songs he has parodied that are in the game.

Call it a hunch, but I think we'd be more likely to see more jam bands get in the game via RBN than the standard channels anyway....look at how long it took to get ONE Phish song in the game.
So I'm hoping Phish, Widespread Panic, Ozomatli, Derek Trucks, Umphrey's McGee, and other jambands go for RBN....

BTW, regarding Marillion, guaranteed that (if) anything they put in there will be Hogarth era. If you are holding out for Misplaced or Script, almost certainly won't happen.
