trying to mail broken guitar back and can't remove the top. Removed it just fine from my 1st broken guitar. Several people (including people much stronger than me) have tried no dice.
Is there some trick other than brute force?

open it take the little metal cover off, slide it off, watch where the clips go you will see them when you take the metal plate off. put the metal clips back, put the plate back on, put the back back on done.

Edit: NVM, completely misunderstood the question. Probably because I was myself in the process of opening the guitar. :D
Unscrew everything on the back. Then unscrew the white front plate; move it to the side a bit (you can't remove it because of the effect switch): there are 2 screws behind the plate. Unscrew them and you can now open the guitar.

You don't have to take off the headstock. The instructions you received with the box pretty clearly state that the headstock WILL stick out of the inner box. It will all fit inside the outer box. Don't bother disassembling it.

If you are concerned about mailing it back with the plastic piece that you initially have to "plug" in to the top of the neck, they specifically stated in the packing notes that came with my replacement guitar that it will stick out of the box. The implication to me was that I shouldn't bother trying to remove it, so I shipping it back just like that. No problems.
edit: hah, missed it by 20 seconds.
