View Full Version : Best Hard Rock Band, Take 2

OK, ignore the one without the "Take 2" part- I messed that one up. This will include the poll.
The same rules apply as the first one- constructive, not destructive critcism and strictly hard rock bands in there.

Why not just add a poll to the first one?

Kind of pointless adding a poll in the first place, don't you think? People are just going to complain about how none of those bands are anywhere near the best, some of them aren't hard rock, etc.
Also, Rock and Roll is the devil's music.

Rock and Roll's the devil's work he wants you to rebel.
You've become a mindless puppet, Beelzebub'll pull the strings
Your heart will lose direction and chaos he will bring
You better shut your mouth you better watch your tone
Your grounded for a week with no telephone
Don't lemme hear ya cry, don't lemme hear ya moan
You gotta praise the Lord when you're in my home

It's close between Zep, Purple, and the Who for me.
Ultimately, I went with Zep. I like bands who experiment lots. Not saying the Who or Purple never experimented, but Zep just did it more and did it perfectly.
My reasoning is very bland, but hey, I'm tired.

1. Foghat
2. Def Leppard
3. KISS
4. Montrose
5. The Cult
Really hard to just say one, so I name-dropped five of my absolute favorite hard rock bands. None of them are on the poll, though...

Out of the bands listed, Deep Purple, who are considered Heavy Metal as well.

Never so much got the "Hard rock" label, at least as far as assigning whole bands to it, almost any rock band has probably dabbled in it extensively.
Based on general guidance, the similarity to the available poll options, and lastFM/wikipedia research though, apparently Alice Cooper is my favorite of said genre.

My Korean mother has an absolute brainfart whenever there is an r and an l together in an English word. Listening to her try to say 'world' and then error out always nets a good laugh.

i didn't know you liked Foghat or Montrose
I've been a big fan of Foghat since I first listened to one of their live albums a few years ago, but I just started digging into Montrose a few days ago. While the lyrics are laughably bad in a campy-but-awesome kind of way (Space Station 5!), the music itself has a great groove and some nice riffs.

Honestly, I've never liked the term "hard rock." It can be applied to such a wide range of bands, I feel it's unnecessary. Out of the bands on the poll, I like The Who the best, so I'll vote for them.

Zeppelin for me. I pretty much expected them and The Who to be the runaway favorites (along with AC/DC and G'n'R), but Purple fans are surprising me.

No not really, there's some metal bands I do consider hard rock like sabbath, priest, guns n roses.
But bands like you mentioned, not so much.
I can't remember where I read this, it might have been on the forums.
Someone said, "Metal can be hard rock, but hard rock can't be metal."
Kind of like a square can be a rectangle, but a rectangle can't be a square.
It makes sense to me.
