I wondered how to create a shoegaze sound with my guitar (to compose a cover of Antony and the Johnsons' "Another World" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-qThnGw_64). I'm not only talking about distortion, reverb, etc (that's quite easy), but especialy about what kind of thing should my fingers be doing?

If possible, use your tremolo bar to strum.

I use reverb + sweep echo with occasional whammy-induced strumming.

Do chords, especially chords with a high, jangly sound. You can arpeggiate them or you can just strum them out, either way is fine, but essentially, playing shoegaze guitar isn't unlike playing acoustic guitar. Well, besides the fact that you're playing on an electric and you add a crapload of effects and distortion.

By the way, if you're looking for effects setups Guitar Geek has quite the database. Note that if you're searching under "Artist" that it's the band member's name rather than the band name.
