View Full Version : So who's gonna get an XNA membership when RBN launches?

OK, so in my opinion one of the coolest things about RBN is that we, the RB fanatics, will be able to play and give feedback on songs before their release by purchasing an XNA Creators Club (http://creators.xna.com/en-US/) membership for $99/yr.

I plan on getting a membership so I can play songs before they come out and give feedback on things like broken talkies, broken activation windows, or any other problems with the vocal charts. In theory, the more RB players that review the content, the better quality songs/charts we'll end up with (music tastes aside, of course).

So who else is planning on doing this?

getting all the normal DLC released weekly means its not cost effective for me to get this AND maybe buy a few on release...so no for me

Possibly. I'm a vocalist and I think most of the attention will go to guitar and drums, so I think I might come in handy. Most of my critique would be less technical and more about the way a chart handles and instructs the player. But... I'm not sure about it right now. I'd like to see how the community pans out before I invest the money to join.

I'd like to, but as a PS3 user with limited access to a 360, i dont see the worth.

Yes yes yes! This is a very exciting opportunity for any Rock Band enthusiast :D

My feelings exactly. :) Without knowing exactly how it will work yet, I'm hoping that user feedback will be effective in stopping things like broken talkies from getting released into the RBN store.

I feel that HMX's playtesting for vocals has been less than stellar, with things like One Way or Another, and the 5 energy phrases at the beginning of Give it Away being released on the RB2 disc that should have been easily caught even if they only tested vocals on Easy.

I'll be getting it to distribute my music(experimental techno in rock band? lulz) and other local bands that seem interested. So I'll probably help out in the community too.

No, I can't see spending $100 a year for a single playthrough of the songs to do a peer review of it. You all do the hard work, I will download the songs I like... which might be 5% of what is going to be released.

I have a feeling there is going to be a lot of crap released....

We don't get XBox Live at school, which I will be at until may, so $99.00 that I already don't really have would seem like a pretty big waste.

I'll see how the beta test goes first before I decide. I'm close to doing it, that's for sure - it's the only feasible way I can see of keeping up!

I want to... and I have an XBox... I would have jumped on board at launch, but sadly, I'm among those included in the excluded column atm. :(

Poll needs an option to reflect this situation.

Definitely. The more people that are involved in the review stage, the better the final product, and the less likely that people (bands, in particular) will think it's some shoddy "amateur hour" version of the download store that they don't want to get involved with.

The fact that I like testing things is enjoyable. I'll grab a membership, too.

God knows if I'd become a one man band that would make songs for this game, but that's not likely. Ha ha!

you guys really need to know what's going on, it takes a lot of work to make a song charted to seem good, and play well, download frets on fire, and some band made songs, this is the exact same thing, no, you will not make a million dollars a day, because it is very difficult and much more time consuming than you think, the only people to make money on this is microcrap.

kingtonyx

I will say that the once-over you get on the track to do your review will make vocal reviewing difficult

Knucklesdude
07-20-2009, 11:36 PM
I believe you can play the song as many times as you want in Audition Mode, it's only until you exit Audition Mode that the song is erased from memory.

But Harmonix clarification is always nice. :)

trg007
07-20-2009, 11:44 PM
Yeah, hopefully we'll be able to restart songs in Audition Mode and not have to redownload them for every play-through.

I'm glad some people will be jumping aboard to help RBN release better quality tracks. But, I probably wouldn't get into it. That 99 dollars could go toward a lot of permanent songs for RB2. :P

You don't need to be a musician to have an XNA membership and review songs, although that is the same type of membership bands will need to submit their stuff, assuming they don't use a service like RhythmAuthors.

Thinking about it, but 100 bucks buys a lot of DLC

I'll wait to get more details about this. Could be interesting. Texas hold em can bring in a little extra cash every now and then so either this or permanent DLC.

So... for the price of 50 "official"/quality songs, you're essentially buying yourself an "all-you-can-play" pass to the RBN buffet? Is there a limit to how much you can sample? Would seem like a great idea if you split the costs with some friends. $100 a little steep, for me, but more power to those who sign up for it.

I'm assuming that recording and uploading footage of songs before they hit the RBN would be frowned upon?

I'd assume so yes.

The only thing is, you get a reviewer pass to the song.

One time use, then you have to go back in and download it again if you want to play it another time

Honestly, It All Depends On The Artists That Are on The RBN. If Most of The Artists on My "Halo 3 Playlist" Are on The RBN, Then Hell Yeah I'm Getting a Membership!
