Headset - XBOX

I've been having trouble using my headset and w/ my drums/guitar to be able to chat while playing. This a common problem or do I just suck at setting it up?

the little adapter has problems try getting a cell phone mic or a orginal xbox head set and try pluging it in to see if its you insterments or the adapter.
