I saw the RBN was going to be talked about on G4 tonight as well, on (I think) Attack of the Show. Maybe they'll mention these guys there too.

I'm a little confused. Is HMX getting the hackers to work on the RBN and be useful instead of what they feel is detrimental?

well rock band was never hacked to allow for scorehero custom songs, right? i've seen gh2 and gh3 hacked, ghwt had ghtunes, but ive never seen rock band hacked other than frets on fire with rock band skin. anyway, this sounds cool, but what about people under 18? can we please be able to chart songs and play them locally? i would easily pay 100$ for that.

or Guitar Zero with the Rock Band skin, but seriously these guys sound pretty hardcore. over 50 hours of work.

RB1 for PS2 and wii has been hacked, so has RB2 for the same consoles

Well, they are the easiest to do it to.

Actually, Rhythm Authors *isn't* "the only outfit right now." Nor did they have extensive training, nor did HMX go out of their way to contact RA specifically.
http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=153056
Just got off the phone with Jeff Marshall from Harmonix and had quite the conversation with him.
Mainly he wanted to let me know there is some misconception about the "training" that has been touted about on the billboard and other web site articles.
The training was simply a 6 hr session with the people involved with the closed beta to showcase the tools that will be used (Reaper and Magma) so that people in the closed beta could help flesh out and give feed back on the documentation that will be created for any one to access.
HMX will not be providing ANY training to prospective authors... period... This was a one time deal to help them rollout the RBN... All information and tools and documentation will be given to the rest of us via the http://creators.rockband.com website over the next couple weeks.
In August the RBN goes in to Open beta and in September access to the XNA pipe line to the stores will be opened.
Kudos to Rhythm Authors for doing this, and best of luck in that venture. But it's time to stop the false advertising. These guys are not padawans to the HMX Jedi; they're just one of many fanboys who've made custom charts (e.g., Frets on Fire) and who attended a one-day class previewing the RBN software.
Let's not blow it out of proportion.

I never saw the custom scene as detrimental. If it was we definitely wouldn't be talking about RBN today. If it was so detrimental, why did Alex Rigopulos drop $2k to help with a server upgrade over at Scorehero, knowing there was a huge custom scene housed there. Scorehero did everything they legally could to keep the scene legit as it could be. Nope, detrimental is not the word I would've chosen.

Scorehero, huh?
So every song is going to look like this then?

No.... I would certainly hope that the RBN community wouldn't let something like that sneak through. Check out the ones done by Phr34k, Chil, elx, nickb611, emptyset, rckr, socrstopr, and Leff (who works for Neversoft :( ) There was crap charts, including some done by myself, and there was excellent charts. Don't judge the scene by one rididculous video.
