WTF Sony and Paypal charged me 1$ for nothing?

I just wanted to sign up my AMEX gift card for PSN and Paypal, so I entered the info into paypal, and then did it for PSN.

Fast forward a couple hours, and I find that PSN and Paypal have charged my card 1$ (each) for some reason.

Can anyone explain why?

Standard procedure to verify a credit card. The amount should be deposited back in a few days/weeks, depending on the company.

If you check the charge, its still pending. All it does is check that your address and number are valid with the bank. The amount will fall off your account in 3-5 business days.

Yes, you can either purchase a smaller amount or wait for the amount to fall off in a few days

I don't think you buy "points" on the psn.
