I want the whole Sub Pop 200 disc..

1) For Nirvana's 'Spank Thru'

2) Soundgarden's 'Sub Pop Rock City' just so we can hear Cobain in the background saying "I wish I knew how to dance"

3) Mudhoney's cover of 'The Rose' is great on it...We can finally get Bette Midler!!

4) The whole thing rocks!!

A lot of the big names like Dinosaur Jr, White Stripes and Bright Eyes I left off my list because almost all of their music is not on Sub Pop. However, I could have named 50 of those bands that I would be excited to see as DLC.

I feel really lucky that of all the labels, Sub Pop is the first one to step up. They have quite a few bands that I like (and I'm picky about my music choices, so this really is extraordinary).

The bands I'd like to see are:

The White Stripes
The Shins
Nirvana
The Postal Service
Modest Mouse
Rogue Wave
The Reverend Horton Heat
Soundgarden

Some of these bands have just one song that I'd like to see ("Psychobilly Freakout" from TRHH, "Lake Michigan" from Rogue Wave, "About a Girl" from Nirvana, and "Such Great Heights" from TPS), but getting bands like The Shins and The White Stripes are big wins for me.

(As a side note, does anyone know what the White Stripes songs are that Sub Pop would be able to release? When looking through their albums I didn't see them listed as a label, which confused me.)

Nirvana and Soundgarden mainly for me. I am not familiar with most of those bands although I have to admit that Cat Butt is one of the best band names I've ever heard.

I would check out other stuff by Modest Mouse, The Shins, or Dinosaur Jr. as well.

Patton Oswalt isn't a musician. He's a comedian. That would be an interesting Rock Band track to try and play.

People need to understand that many bands on that list had EP's or non-peak releases done by Sub Pop. You can see their discography here - http://www.subpop.com/catalog/discography

Of albums actually released by Sub Pop Records, the list begins and ends with Band of Horses' "Cease to Begin".

When the Rock Band Network was released, I dreamed that things like this would be possible. While unknown bands are great to experiment with, the Network is so intriguing because music you love could actually come out in quantity on Rock Band. I love this album.

My favorite song for the game is probably "Ode to LRC" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=to_dIQOPNwk and for those who love poaching GH5, "Cigratettes, Wedding Bands" is on the setlist.

Otherwise, Wolf Parade, Fleet Foxes and Flight of the Conchords would be fun. Oh and my one "anti-Rock Band friend" is obsessed with No Age so that would be hilarious for me to play with him around.

Am I the only person who just flat-out does not like Flight of the Conchords?

The first season was a lot funnier than the second season, IMO. I think it's because the first season was mostly based on their stand-up routine, and they really tried too hard in the second season.

I thought it was funny that one of them was nominated for an Emmy for performance in a comedy show, but the other one wasn't.

Wow, I must be out of it. I'm not even sure what the "Sub Pop" genre actually consists of musically. However, I see that people are listing Soundgarden and Nirvana, both of which I knew to be labeled Alternative (more when they first came out) and later Grunge after that became a genre instead of just a movement/style.

Sub Pop has said they want to put out their entire catalog. Pick you top ten!

Band of Horses
Iron & Wine
L7
Mudhoney
Sleater-Kinney
Sonic Youth
Soundgarden

(there were only seven that I would want to see a lot of stuff right away, but quite a few others that I would like to see a song or two from later on)

A significant number of the bands on that list have only one small released on Sub Pop. I'm pretty sure a few of them have no releases on Sub Pop at all.

For example, Modest Mouse's 1st single is the only thing they ever released on Sub Pop. Dinosaur Jr only has one single as well, and I'm fairly sure that Sonic Youth doesn't actually have any release on Sub Pop (at least not a significant one).

I'd say Sub Pop's artist list (http://www.subpop.com/artists/) is probably where we should all be looking, because that's in all likelihood the list of artists that Sub Pop considers to be "Sub Pop bands." I wouldn't be surprised if the smaller releases aren't put on RBN.

That said, the bands with significant releases I'm most looking forward to are:

The Shins
Sleater-Kinney
Flight Of The Conchords
Sebadoh
Band Of Horses
Chad VanGaalen
Sunny Day Real Estate
Iron & Wine
Nirvana

Gasp! I was under the impression that I was the only one on this forum who likes The Thermals!

But, yeah, only their first 3 albums were on SubPop so we won't be seeing anything from "Now We Can See". Though it is their weakest album, I'd still like to see a few songs such as the title track. :P

Anyone who is extremely excited should tone it down a bit cause they only released two singles, with a total of four songs. Broke, Positive/Negative, Workin' On Leavin' The Livin', and Neverending Math Equation. All of them are fantastic songs and I love Broke dearly, but for anyone expecting Lonesome Crowded or We Were Dead are going to be sorely dissapointed because those were released on Up and Epic respectively. The only bands I'm really looking forward too are The Postal Service and Ugly Casanova because they're had full albums, and I tend to like side bands that have only released one album. Plus, they're side bands to probably my favorite bands of all time. Can't wait though!

Rapeman sounds awesome.

It's a Steve Albini project. I doubt it'll show up in rock band, as Albini is a bit of a stickler for delivery method. I don't think he wants his songs downloaded from iTunes, much less Rock Band.

Also, Sub Pop will almost certainly not bring us Modest Mouse, The White Stripes, Fugazi, or Sonic Youth. Those bands released their primary work on other labels.

Also also, HOLY CRAP COMETS ON FIRE!

My A list, if a video game ever present substantial material (at least a couple songs by each) from this list I will buy it no questions asked : and probably buy most if not all of their songs.

Billy Childish / Thee Headcoats : A complete Headcoats album would get me to buy the game. *yeah I don't own it yet, came here because of that Sub Pop announcement.
Mudhoney : My fave band back in college
The Supersuckers : my fave band now 
The Reverend Horton Heat :

Then comes the list from which I would certainly buy several songs by each of these bands:

Eric's Trip : Insane drums here from Moncton Canada!
Gluecifer : Norwegian cock rock
Hellacopters : Swedish cock rock !
Turbonegro
Afghan Whigs
The Dwarves
The Fastbacks
The Makers
Chixdiggit
Gas Huffer
Supersnazz
The Thrown Ups
The White Stripes

Then, these bands I would buy a few songs but still…
Soundgarden
Steve Fisk
Tad
The Black Halos
The Constantines
Babes in Toyland
Nirvana
Radio Birdman
Screaming Trees
Seaweed
Six Finger Satellite
Sleater-Kinney
Sonic Youth: Isn’t their lone Sub Pop material is a split with Mudhoney on which they cover a Mudhoney’s song? Well, at least Mushoney got something really interesting out of Halloween.

And tracks from the Sub Pop 200 compilation and from the Sub Pop Video Network Volume 1 VHS tape.

All that with a big thank you from 18 years ago ... when I was 18 :)

Keep in mind that list is bands who HAVE WORKED WITH Sub Pop. Meaning "at one point in time." So not every band has all their albums published with Sub Pop. Idk if you had this in mind, but I would hate to see you get your hopes dashed for a particular song.

None of these bands are "OMG WANT NAO" for me. I will definitely pick up a few tracks from Nirvana, Soundgarden, etc when they come out. I wasn't aware that this list wasn't Sub Pop published bands, however. That's kinda disappointing, but I'm not going to be heartbroken if we don't see these bands on RBN immediately :)

From last months' Game Informer...

Q: Have you guys been thinking about a strategy in terms of how many songs you're going to start pushing out and which artists?

Sub Pop Guy: We've had some very base, preliminary conversations about it. A lot of it is going be determined by how long it takes us to input the songs. There's certainly some catalogue songs, things like Mudhoney's "Touch Me I'm Sick" that we'd want to get in there right away.

There are things that are timely that we'd probably want to move to the front of the queue. We're releasing all the first Sunny Day Real Estate records, and those are big guitar, bass, and drum songs for the most part that are pretty epic and I think would be fun to play. Also, [we have] things like the Shins and then more current things like Blitzen Trapper or Fleet Foxes.

The other thing is, even though we probably have the right to proceed with everything contractually, we generally don't do anything without talking to our artists, so we just want to make sure everybody's into it. I can't imagine anybody wouldn't be.
Hopefully we will see SDRE real soon after launch then

To the OP, The White Stripes have never been Sub-Pop
They never released an album through SubPop, they did, however, release this (http://rarebird9.blogspot.com/2009/07/white-stripes-single-from-sub-pop.html).

In 2001 the White Stripes were featured in the Sub Pop singles club. It was a subscription-only service where the lucky subscriber received a 7" every month for a very reasonable price. A six-month subscription in 2001 would have cost you $35. The White Stripes' Sub Pop single on Sub Pop now consistently sells for $250 on reputable online auction sites.

What "Sub Pop single on Sub Pop" are they referring to, you ask? That single was actually pressed in December of 2000. Party of Special Things To Do, pressed in red-and-white-colored vinyl, contained three Captain Beefheart covers. The Stripes’ version of the titular 1974 Beefheart song was its A-side, and their covers of Beefheart’s 1969 song “China Pig” and his 1980 song “Ashtray Heart” were on its B-side. Beefheart was such an odd and original musician that he made his friend Frank Zappa seem like a normal guy by comparison. It’s probably impossible for anyone besides Beefheart to fully duplicate a genuine Beefheart groove, but Jack White’s renditions of Beefheart’s songs are respectable enough. White’s versions are a bit more accessible but less vibrant than the originals, as he logically applies his own minimalist blues-rock style to that of the Captain.
