We all know there will be full lengh albums for DLC.
But I'm asking myself, do I have to download the whole album? I mean, I would like to have the Who's Baba O'Riley but I don't need all of their songs from Who's Next. Can I donwload just this song, or do I have to download every song of the album?
Anyone know the answer to this question?

No one knows for sure because it has not been talked about yet at all. But I would say there is a 99% chance you can download songs individually or at least in smaller groups than an entire album. If they made everyone buy the entire albums I think a lot less people would use the DLC.

Thanks man! I hope you're right. And when I think about it, it would'nt make sense to not let us download just one song (or lets say smaller song packs), because it's probably to high priced if you can only download the whole album.

The only problem I see with downloading individual tracks is that the Xbox Live Marketplace is really not flexible enough to handle something like this as it is right now. Also, what happens if I download a single and then later down the road I decide I like it enough to buy the album. Do I pay twice for the one song? I would almost prefer an in game store instead of using the marketplace on 360. I'm not sure how it will be on the PS3 though.

..."Rock Band served as the tail end of EA's E3 press conference, and they made sure to save a few announcements for last. CEO of Harmonix, Alex Rigopulos announced that Rock Band will receive downloadable content every single week after its initial release. Even better, he announced that players not only be able to download single songs and multi-song packs, but entire albums. The first album that will be available for download is The Who's Who's Next. Finally, Rigopulos announced that Rock Band musicians will at last be jamming to Metallica. It was revealed that Metallica's "Enter Sandman" will ship with the retail version of Rock Band with many more career-spanning tracks coming as downloadable content."
here is the link to the blog where I read this...sounds legit tho.

M$oft is going to have to put some work into the marketplace in order to enable some of these features it seems. Especially the, I already bought tracks 1 and 2 of the 10 pack, can I have a discount on buying the 10 pack now?
I'm sure it will get worked out, there seems to be ample time left before release to put the finishing touches on the systems.

You will probably have to download the whole album due to licensing, but after that i would pretty surprised if you could't also play the songs individually.
In fact i don't know if they ever specifically stated that the point of entire album downloads would be so you can play through the whole thing, although i am sure that will be an option.

Uhhh...thanks...but we already knew that. This doesn't answer the question that the OP asked. Whether or not we will be able to download single songs off of the album downloads. They have stated there will be singles and albums but they haven't stated if those will be related at all.

While that statement can be interpretted in different ways, either that there will be both single songs and albums and you can purchase both seperately, or that you can purchase single songs, or groups of songs off the album or the entire album it self as well as when single songs come out you can purchase those seperately or in groups. I assume they mean the latter, only being able to buy the entire album seems silly to me, and would cause a lot of people not to want to buy an album especially if they only wanted one song off of it.

hmm it read to me like they're just saying "hey you can download individual sons.. you can also download songs in multi-packs.. and guess what, you'll be able to download albums as well!"
If they were saying otherwise, they probably would have structured the sentence by mentioning the whole albums first and then bringing the single and multi-packs in under it.
My guess is that you'll only be able to purchase the album in it's entirety.. it MAY be the only way it's financially justifiable. But in saying so, I expect that any rea popular songs off an album that's already out will hit the market too, but further down the line afterwards.

Maybe you should check out all of the songs before saying you only want one. Almost every song on Who's Next is great and only buying one is willful ignorance.
And if you're only going to buy one, Behind Blue Eyes is obviously the way to go, not Baba O'Riley.
I am music snob; hear me roar!

Yeah, well, I was thinking about buying Behind Blue Eyes too, so that would make 2 songs then. :P
Anyway, I'm not only talking about the Who, there will hopefully be a lot albums of many different bands, and you never know, there are songs by some bands I like, although I don't like the band that much. I don't like everything from the Who. Or let's say, I don't NEED everything.

Yeah there are going to be later albums that are released where I won't want to buy all of it

I'm sure the reason Metallica was holding out on iTunes was because they require you to get the whole album. Depends on the band maybe?
