i recently watched all the firefly episodes and the movie serenity, and have to say that this is one of the best shows i have ever seen. its a real shame it got cancelled, but the movie does make for a nice farewell to the series. i must say that im now a huge fan, and wonder if theres any more firefly lovers out there in the rock band community.

any fans out there?

I downloaded the whole season. Quite a bit of bandwidth. I watched half the pilot with the gf and we almost vomited. One of the worst shows I've ever seen.

I learned something. Now I download ONE episode before getting a whole season. It's called not pulling a firefly. :D

I enjoyed it. And I love the movie. It does suck that it got cancelled(sp?) but how many series can say they went out with a movie? Not to many I'd guess.

It's hard to judge a show's quality based solely on the pilot, though.

Any ways, I'm a fan of the show, although I have yet to see the film. I really should get on that.

Don't watch only one episode of a show before you judge. IMO, the pilot is the weakest episode of the entire series. A lot of shows are like that.

I heart Firefly. I don't care for Serenity so much, because it was too action oriented and didn't have as much character development and comedy as the show (which were my favorites). Plus it killed people! :( But the show is fantastic. I quote it all the time.

I still need to learn the Chinese cussing from the show. :D

I'm a big Firefly fan, and had the good fortune of being able to work on the Dutch subtitling/localization of the Blu-Ray set. It's always great to work on the show you love.

I vaguely remember seeing the previews when I was in law school and thinking it looked interesting, but I wasn't watching much TV at the time, so I didn't try to follow it, which, I would learn later, would have been frustrating thanks to FOX's ****ty treatment of the show.

Later, a friend of mine was telling me about it, and since he and are like a lot of the same TV shows and movies, I put it on my Netflix queue. After watching the first disc, I immediately went online to order the entire season and the movie.

I absolutely love that show. Great writing, great dialogue, great characters, great stories, really cool camera work. Just an awesome show. The movie was cool, but not as awesome as the series. And it wasn't just the deaths that sucked, but the throwaway manner in which they were done. When a character who never appeared in the series gets a better death than one of the coolest, funniest characters ever to appear in a TV show, that's beyond lame.

That's awesome! So did you just do the translation work or what? Being an anime fan, I know there's more than just translation to subtitling. You also need proper timing and such.

I have an HK copy of the Japanese movie Battle Royale. Only way to get it with English subs, sadly. I know enough Japanese that the timing and bad translation is fine, I mostly have it for when I watch with other people. But it's funny how people will say stuff, there will be no subs, and then suddenly the subtitles appear several seconds later, when they're saying something else entirely!

These days, I only do the translation because I almost exclusively work on DVD releases, and that means I already have the English subtitles to work with.
However, back when I used to work for Belgian TV I did my own spotting (which is deciding when titles start and stop), so I have plenty of experience with that too. It does take a good ear and a good sense of timing in addition to the ability to put what's being said into as few words as possible, due to the space/time restrictions you're working with. It's very different from normal translation, but I thoroughly enjoy it.

he has a small part. he's a bodyguard when the president is in area 51. when the alien wakes up he shoots it through the glass. i think he gets killed though.

I saw it on a torrent last Fall, and decided to download it and see what the hype was about.

WHY DID THIS SHOW GET CANCELED?!

I love the show so much, it kind of seemed like the same stuff over and over again, but hey, it worked for them. Serenity was kind of a disappointment. It seems like they were just finishing off the story, not even giving the series any future hope, killing off some of the cool characters (not going to say who, for spoiler reasons).

I miss that show, though. I still have it on my computer, but if I ever see it at the store I am picking it up. Especially the Blu-Ray version (if they have the series in Blu-Ray) because I liked the visuals and everything in the series. :)

I'll leave you guys to this:

On a related note, I just saw an episode of Ace of Cakes last night where they made a cake shaped like Serenity for a customer. :)

Alec Baldwin is awesome in Chuck.

Christina Hendricks? Yeah. She's in Mad Men, which I have yet to see a single episode, but I may Netflix it to see her acting ability. And by "acting ability" I mean fiery red hair and bounteous bosoms.
