Life without a PS3 is tough

As you may know now my PS3 got YLOD a few weeks ago. I still haven't gotten it replaced yet and all my friends are out of town or on punishment(That's what happens when you crash the car when you are getting your license later that day). Basically I'm bored to death.

In case you care(which I doubt) heres been my past 2 weeks.

Make fun of my mom for thinking Boy George was black.
Sleep.
Make fun of my mom for her extensive knowledge of 1970's Disco.
Sleep.
Make fun of my mom for getting Queen and Kiss mixed up all the time
Sleep.

The main answer says it's from the Hard Drive. While you get that light from it overheating. But the PS3 shuts itself down. Right?

When I got the YLOD, the ps3 wouldn't even turn on.

I've never had my machine overheat though.

Well I wouldn't know as I don't have a PS3, so I thought that seemed more like the plausible answer than anything.

And like I said though too, PS3 failure is rare. Unlike the infamous XBOX 360. :(

Well, alot of the launch models are starting to flame out, so I bet over the next year the ps3 failure rate won't be so rare.

Both of these manufacturers this generation suck. My SNES still works, and so does my ps2. MS and Sony dropped the ball on quality hardware this time around.

That is true. It kind of sucks to be honest.

I honestly do wish consoles would be like they did in the 90's and early 00's. Where they really wouldn't break at all. If they did, It was extremely rare.

Really, I've had my Nintendo Gamecube break while playing "Big Mutha' Truckers." I was driving along till my vehicle fell through the level.. I was like "Ok, this must've been a glitch." Turned the thing off and then turned it back on and It wouldn't turn on at all.

Rare. Rarity never happens any more with consoles and it sucks (about them breaking down).

I recently read a thread that mentioned a red light of death ( singular ) for the ps3. They said that meant overheating. Who knows.
Since I have both the 360 and ps3 sitting within a foot or so of each other, it will look like I have a damn Christmas tree in my room if they both die at the same time .
Too many colors.

Most talk I have heard about possible source of the YLoD is going back to how the Cell CPU is mounted on the motherboard, that, on older models, some of them partially lose connection, or a data pin shorts out.

My guess is that, as it partially was on the 360 with RRoDs, lead-free solder is partially to blame. Leave it to the environmentalists to mandate an electrical component (lead-free solder) that was originally passed over years ago due to its propensity for failure...

From my experience and what i've seen launch models that Sony has put out have always messes up. When the PS2 came out i got it when it came out and a couple of years later it messed up on me. The PSP had the pixel problem with the launch models. That's why i waited a few months on the PSP and PS3 because it seems like Sony's launch models have something wrong with them but the Sony always puts out a quality console out after that.

I certainly hope that the YLOD is not the case for the PS3 but good luck on getting everything back on your PS3

sorry for the bump, not much internet access for me since my PS3 was my internet browser :(

I'm not sure... When my dad gets the $ he's going to buy a new one since he doesn't want to spend $150 on a refurb.
