View Full Version : No outcry about Strat not being compatitible w/ gh3???

Lots of people upset with the Les Paul not working on RB for ps3. Well I got an xbox and Im pissed that I need 2 gh3 controllers to play co-op because I cant use my strat. That is lame that I need 3 guitars. Activision intentionally prohibits me from using it too because it tags the strat as an incompatible guitar.

I know Harmonix or EA can't do anything about it but with the big fuss about complaining to activision going on in these boards, maybe you guys can mention this in your complaints to them. I went to the GH3 site to look into this but that forum is lame. It feels like they are not interested in feedback on their site. We all know by now activision is lame and doesn't care about what the players want.

This really shouldn't be about RB vs. GH3 or the XBOX vs. 360. It should be about universal guitar compatibility for all.

While I agree, Strat-to-GHIII compatibility has been a non-issue for me as I haven't once even thought of booting up GHIII since getting Rock Band.

Not even during the two weeks when I was waiting for my replacement Strat.

That's the source of my lack of outcry, if the lack of something can actually have a source.

It definitely sucks when my friend comes over and we want to play Co-Op career and the Strat doesn't work.

Can't find an x-plorer anywhere, not even a used one at gamestop.
And I'm definitely not buying guitar hero 2 to get another one.

OP is correct. The issue is guitar compatibility in both directions. However, you just can't act that suprised that on a Rock Band forum there isn't that much outcry over whether we can play GH3 with two guitars. We're all sort of busy playing something else. :)

No one cares because Activision said no other guitar controllers would be allowed to work with the game from the beginning.

Of course there is (minor) outcry - but its all correctly being directed back at Activision who is intentionally blocking out third party controllers from the GH games. One company wants compatability both ways, the other does not.

Fair enough. But still, I figured the guitar was just another controller but shaped like a guitar. The green button is A, Red is B, the analogs are the strum an whammy, etc...., just like a regular controller. It seems they intentionally are making it so you have to use their controller which is not cool. All controllers should work on all games.

My point was Activision suck and they need to start programing to open standards. And while everyone is writing to them about the Les Paul not working, mention this too.

As stated above, who really gives a rat's a$$ about guitar hero anymore?

It is so one dimensional, and....................................

BOYCOTT ACTIVISION!!!

True, but it's still bad business. Fact is PS3 GH3 owners are in the same boat. They have to buy two bundles just to get a second guitar. It's just unethical business. It's not illegal, but it shouldn't be done.

Of course, as is being pushed elsewhere, only one way to make companies listen. www.activision.com

My outcry: I just never bought it. If they're not going to make an effort to let me use other peripherals for their games, then I don't need their games. Simple as that.

More importantly, it's Activision's game. What can we reasonably expect Harmonix to do about it? Nothing, hence there's no outcry directed at them here.

Harmonix would be more than happy to let the Strat work with other games. THE CATCH IS THIS: Red Octane was purchased by Activision. Red Octane is a hardware maker. Activision/Red Octane is doing their damndest to protect their market share by trying to inhibit Rock Band's success. It sucks, but it's also hard business.

To be honest to the OP, I would love to have this feature as much as I'd love this patch to be released. The difference is that we knew the patch was coming and we now know it has been stopped. If activision said they were working on a compatability patch, then stopped it we'ed be getting equally as pissed at Harmonix for stopping.

Either way we're losing out. I wish Activision would smarten up and release both patches (Harmonix's) and their own.

I am a little miffed only because I waited to get GH3 after Rockband and now realize that I need to get the full package to play GH3. Oh well i guess its not that bad since I would then have a bass Guitar for people tp play on. Its kind of cool to have two different guitars anyways IMO.

Two reasons:

One, it is possible to play GH3 on PS3 with the Pelican adapter on a PS2 SG (I have done it many times)....so people are already playing coop.

Two- GH3 has been made obsolete by Rock Band. Boss battles and buggy online play are weak innovations.... especially compared to the multiplayer that Rock Band offers. If I were Neversoft then I would be extremely worried about the sequel which the CEO of Activision has mandated.

GH still has the name recognition, but as time goes on and more people find out about Rock Band and how it does everything GH does and more... well.... Neversoft should definitely be worried.

It's Activision's fault. They coded GHIII not to accept the Strat.
