So, like you, I am extremely upset at Activision's decision. However, venting here in the forums will not get them to change their mind. I started this thread to share ideas as to how we can let Activision, Sony, and the rest of the world know how bad a decision this is and how unhappy we are with it.

This is just a quick list. Please feel free to refine it and add ideas of your own.

1) Contact Activision directly and let them know how you feel:
https://activision.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/activision.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php?p_sid=Q6M7Z2Ti&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX3NvcnRfYnk9JnBfZ3JpZHNvcnQ9JnBfc m93X2NudD04ODM3LDg4MzcmcF9wcm9kcz0mcF9jYXRzPSZwX3B 2PSZwX2N2PSZwX3NlYXJjaF90eXBlPWFuc3dlcnMuc2VhcmNoX 25sJnBfcGFnZT0x
(This is for Activision support, there's probably a better place..)

2) Contact Sony and let them know that it will hurt the PS3 if they don't tell Activision to back off and allow harmonix to release the patch. (Since it works on the Xbox-360)
Support E-mail: http://www.us.playstation.com/Corporate/ConsumerServices
Phone Number - 800-345-7669

3) Go to online review sites and retailers who allow reviews of products. Give Guitar Hero III a bad review based on the PS3 Guitar incompatibility problem. You can also point out that rock Band is simply a better game, but that's personal preference and is up to you.

4) Go to news sites like digg.com, find the stories about this issue, and vote for them. Here is a current list of Digg articles about Activision blocking the patch:
http://digg.com/search?section=all&s=activision+ps3

5) If you bought Guitar Hero III as a gift for someone for Chrismtas, return it and tell Activision why you did it. I plan to sell my copy of Guitar Hero III and use the proceeds to buy a Rock Band Strat in February.

6) Tell all your friends and relatives to buy Rock Band instead of Guitar Hero III.

7) Boycott Activision products

If we all work together, "maybe" we can make a difference. At least it's worth a try. I would also like to ask for support from the X-box 360 people as well. Sure, your LP guitars works right now. But Activision's next logical step could be to force Harmonix to pull support for the Les Paul out of the 360 version. There have been rumors, and given what they did to the PS3, people, do you really think they wouldn't try it?)

It's kind of sad that Activision is doing this. To be clear, I have a PS3, but I don't have GHIII, and never had any plans to get it, so this doesn't really affect me. I just don't like Activision's supposed attitude toward the whole situation.

I'm sure the intention behind it is to force PS3 people to use the Strat controllers, which have been fairly faulty, and may or may not continue to be. Activision is probably hoping this dissatisfaction with the controllers turns into dissatisfaction for Rock Band, and Harmonix products, and will help sales of GHIII (and 4).

I'd like to think people could really stick it to Activision, but in reality I doubt that's going to happen. GH III and 4, and any other Activision game, will sell just as well as it would've without this whole fiasco, because there simply aren't enough people who are willing to try to do something about it.

Harmonix has always spoken well of GHIII, from what I've seen, but maybe they should take the gloves off, and put that series of games in its place.

Oh well.

The funny thing is so long as Harmonix keeps up this excellent customer feedback, it doesn't matter if my guitar breaks, if I know I'm getting it replaced easily I don't mind receiving a new one.
