Keep in mind I live in a small town(only about 12-15 thousand people).

Having said that I was talking to the local gamestop manager and he said that they have 204 copies of the Beatles on reserve. I know that probably doesn't sound like a lot in the grand scheme of things but remember...small town. Not only small town, but small midwestern farming town. So it's not like there is a crap ton of gamers around here.

In comparison Rock Band 2, HMX 'big' release only had 82 reserves across all platforms.

That's not even counting non reserved sales.

So I think people expecting this to be a niche game with low sales are going to be shocked at how well this game does.

Yea, I believe that. It's amazing to me how many people are interested in TB:RB around my town when they've never played a Rock Band or Guitar Hero game ever!

Yeah but how many Beatles collectors are going to buy the game and keep it sealed?

Not buying it because it's a game and they'll play it, but buying it because it's something from the Beatles to add to the collection.

Well they can go spend their money on the remasters until they see other people playing the game and then want it.

Who are you talking about? Hardcore gamers? Elitist musicians? In either case I find it hard to believe that constitutes a majority of the population wherever you live. (BTW, I consider myself a hardcore gamer and I'm a musician so I didn't intend any offense to anyone)

What else could a Beatles game be other than a music/rhythm game?

You haven't seen the screenshots for Call of Duty 6: Liverpool?

A friend of mine, who will s-talk music games to no end, recently said to me regarding TB:RB 'buy it and I will pretend I never said a hateful word about that game'. The fact that it's a Beatles game is going to engaging people who otherwise would never play. I know my parents will be all over it, for one.

And exactly how many people "around here" have you spoken to? I sense a huge over generalization based on limited discussion amongst acquaintances. At least the OP had something to substantiate his prediction.

Hate to burst your bubble, but it really isn't going to sell that phenomenally.

The economy's current state is having all game sales decline.
Sales of music games are down particularly (67% I think it was for Rock Band)
This game will only appeal to Beatles fans, limiting the target audience. It also doesn't appeal to gamers looking for a challenging game.

But it'll sell more than enough to make it worthwhile.

I disagree, I feel loads of people will get it because of the fact everyone in the world knows at least one Beatles song, and when you have a party people can sing Yellow Submarine, Hey Jude (If In), Eight Days a Week, Twist and Shout, With a Little Help from My Friends. That's just a small amount, If people who are 30 and plus years old hear about a Beatles game, there gonna get It. Teenagers will want It because It's a Rock Band game, Beatles big fans will get It for the fact It's something new released by them.

I think a lot of people are under estimating how The Beatles were/are.

If GH Aerosmith pulled it off so can The Beatles.

Wait, did you just say that because the game will only appeal to Beatles fans, that that limits the target audience? I don't think you understand how big The Beatles are to a lot of people all around the world. I hardly think it will limit the target audience at all. The Beatles are like wine, they just get better with age. Harmonix will never have to make another videogame again after all the money they get from The Beatles: Rock Band AND the success of its DLC.

Yeah, if you think you can make a living just by selling to people who like The Beatles, you'd go broke in a day!!

Dance Dance Revolution stopped working at some point, but how do you think Dance Dance Revolution: Michael Jackson would have sold?

Has it never occurred to the haters that instead of limiting the appeal to people who like The Beatles, it might just... I dunno... make more people like The Beatles? The product is not all hype.

As I've said numerous times before, there's no way to predict how the game is going to sell. There are a significant number of unknowns for which there is no prior precedent that make any attempt to project "success" a perilous one for those of us who aren't privy to the internal workings of Harmonix.

That said, anecdotal evidence as provided by Noble is encouraging; but it's still a single data point and you can not predict trends off of one point.

Yeah but Rock Band 2 hit before the economic **** storm, and Beatles still has over twice as much pre-orders.

No. E-town = Elizabethtown; I'm in a town inbetween there and Ft. Knox.

I walk into a local gamestop and all I see are GH5 and DJ Hero ads everywhere.
There needs to be a giant cut out of the Beatles there.

With "around here" a actually meant deeper research , smarty ;) Since I am an games-magazine-editor, and on top of that heavily interested in the game, I have started telling a lot of people about it, searching in forums, asking Rock Band Partys Hosts and a whole community of german beatles fans... guess that is kind of a relevant cut. Well, after all I had to get some substance for my article.

Sorry, you couldn't know that. Besides that "around here" could be anything, Just wanted to make clear that i did not say this without a background. It gets worse when I see what some of my collegues and editors from other magazines think about it. We have a crazy "Guitar Hero sux 4 milking " attitude here (germany), and too many people count rock band in....

A good comparison in numbers:
TB:RB Standalone X360 Amazon US Rank: #229 in Video Games
TB:RB Standalone X360 Amazon Germany Rank: 6.604 in Video Games

Im not making any predictions. But my local gamestop has 3 bundles pre-ordered. When RB2 came out only one person pre-ordered a bundle. I didnt ask about standalone game preorders.

Then again there are 3 gamestops in a 3 mile radius from there.

See, there ya go. Now I can see where your coming from. :)

You'll have to forgive me. There are far too many kids on these forums that have this idea that because him/her and their circle of friends don't like it, nobody else will. I assumed that with you and I apologize.

Guys, who cares if it's a huge success or a flop.
The only thing I care about is playing this game 24/7 until I die. And after that, I'll play in heaven. :D
