And I don't mean documentaries (we'd be here all day). I mean the movies that used rock as a vehicle. I'm gonna set it off with Detroit Rock City; awesome soundtrack, hilarious, and pretty timeless flick (i mean, Ron Jeremy's in it! c'mon!). [I patiently wait for someone to bring up the other great film that I'm thinking of. Something about backbones and faucets?]

I'd say Rockstar is a good Flim and The Great Film (The Pick of Destiny) or oldschool Kiss meets the phantom of the park.:D

i agree, not only is School of Rock is a great comedy, but it plays a wonderful tribute to all of the classic rock bands. though in another way it does bring a bit of a tear my eye, cause i know Douie's experience with the students about them never listening to Rock (dont tell me you've never gotten The Led out), is probably very close to accurate.

I would like to give notice to one movie and one TV show.
The movie, a classic of the early 90s, Dazed And Confused, a movie thats sound captured that 70s mood, and we all must admit No More Mr. Nice Guy was used to sweet perfection.
The television show I would like to mention was named Freaks and Geeks, I will explain it no more then that you should watch it yourself. That show used the soundtrack well beyond what other TV shows can do.

Agreed. That show was amazing and had a soundtrack to match. A few years ago when they were first considering a DVD set of the show it almost didn't happen because they would have to relicense all the music for DVD (wicked expensive.) It was brought up that for the DVD that they could possibly strip out all the music and put in, like, orchestrals or something. They said they would either get the music that was originally on the show or there would never be a DVD. Awesome.

I know. It was stupid the way the television networks treated that show, with the constant time slot changes, the lack of advertising, and the fact that they aired the episodes out of order.
Judd Apatow does good work, Knocked Up looks to be another check on his record.

Yeah. Almost Famous is an excellent movie.
School of Rock is another great movie. It really made today's youth rediscover classic rock and Jack Black is hysterical.

That show used the soundtrack well beyond what other TV shows can do. Freaks and Geeks is a great show. I just got done watching it for the first time a couple of days ago. I'm so sad that there's only those 18 episodes of it, all of the characters seem very real, and are really likeable, and you wanna know what happened to 'em next.
Dazed and Confused is a great movie, too, but nothing beats Spinal Tap, if that counts... If not, I agree with you.

^Seconded, The Who, God, and Jack Nicholson all singing in one movie?! That movie went beyond 11...
Also: A Hard Day's Night (a total classic when it comes to rocking movies, surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet), The Blues Brothers (always a good movie to watch), and Walk the Line (the oddest movie ever, you think it'd be boring but you can't stop watching it at times). Then the usual like Detroit Rock City, The Rutles, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, the Bill & Ted films (to an extent), and so on.
Also if you count concert-movies I'd go with The Song Remains The Same and Ziggy Stardust: The Motion Picture.
Although if we could count documentaries I'd so go with The Decline of Western Civilization II; ending the movie with In My Darkest Hour by Megadeth was just killer! That and the Let it Be documentary. <.<;

I would have to say Rock Star for capturing the essence of what it's like to be a rock star. Dazed and Confused for the amazing music throughout the movie. Detroit Rock City for the dedication of fans to see their favorite band. School of Rock for the study and appreciation of Rock and Roll.

Seconded.
Noticed no one has said anything about the movie Empire Records. It's not about music directly, but it is nearly totally set in a pretty cool independant record store. Something that is seemingly and sadly dead today.
