The more angles we hit this issue from, the ore likely it will be resolved to everyone's satisfaction.
Except maybe Activision's, unless they abandon their short-sighted take on the issue.

To all my fellow LA Rock Band-owners,
I think we can all agree the blocking of the guitar compatibility patch (http://community.rockband.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=15440) is complete and total BS on Activision's part, and that they need to be made aware of this as soon as possible. Their offices are in Santa Monica at 3100 Ocean Park Blvd, and I suggest that every pissed-off Rock Band owner in the Los Angeles area should go down there and stage a protest. Letters and emails are too easy to brush off, but if we show that we are committed to this issue by marching in front of their doors, they will act.
If anyone else likes this idea, please tell everyone you know about it and reply with suggestions about a date and time. The sooner the better, but we do have to give this idea time to get around.
Also, to 360 owners, even though this is not affecting you, I'm sure you guys realize how ridiculous it is, and I hope you help our cause in any way you can, by coming to this thing or just sending an angry letter or e-mail. A gamer's a gamer, and we should help each other out, regardless of what system you prefer. Thanks.

If they had an office in Philly I'd watch that from the side lines. Honestly, Activision made a decision. Harmonix shouldn't have announced this before they even talked to Activision. Sure, legally Activision probably can't actually stop it. But they likely just used business pressure on Sony (withholding games) to get it done. I can't imagine trying to interface with another companies product as part of your product and not talking to the company before hand. Especially if that company does not publish APIs or documentation to allow third parties to do this and labeled their box that this is not allowed. I bought GH3. When I did I saw the label and knew that Harmonix was full of sh*t. While it's a jerk move by Activision, they never lied about it. They've been saying this from day one.

While I can't argue with anything you're saying, we are the consumers and we have a right to a voice in this issue. Frankly, I don't care how they're blocking the patch or how long they've been planning to do so, I just care that it happened. It's an absurd extension of their little rivalry with EA that only hurts us, the consumers, and as a result, we not only have a right to speak out and let them know we do not approve, but an obligation to do so. Even if they are allowed to do this legally, they should not take the consumer for granted, and we need to let them know that.

Hit them where it hurts. Take your PS3 back and get an Xbox. Tell Sony you are doing so, and this is the reason.
There is no real legal issue here. You don't buy hardware exclusivity. Sony is just feeling the pressure of Activision, and as always, they cave. They're weak and Activision is threatening to make Xbox-exclusive titles if they don't fall in line.
Harmonix should counter by allowing a 1 to 1 PS3 for Xbox Rock Band trade in. Or suspend song d-loads on PS3's site.

Sony has nothing to do with it. They clearly don't want to be sued. HMX/EA should have cleared this ahead of time with Activision pure and simple.

Sony is holding the cards at the moment they have a patch that was developed fully by HMX with their own code. SOny has no legal obligation to hold the patch but they do hold activsion high on their client list. Thing is EA is just as high if not higher since Madden sucked this year on ps3 and whose to say it won't suck worse next year only on ps3. As for talking to activision it's obvious now that activision wasn't responding or offering help so HMX and CO did it themselves with only the code they own. Activision has no legal right on the use of that code. and SOny may very well be breaking their licensing agreement with EA over this whole deal.

I don't think that's a solution at all. For one thing, most of us can't "bring back" our PS3s. They're long ago paid for and beyond any return timetable. And besides the fact, we like our PS3s, aside from the pile of horse manure Activision just dumped on us. I'll just have to wait until January 31st to get a second guitar from Harmonix/EA. I feel bad that I purchased two guitar hero 3 bundles for the guitars now, but I can't undo that either. I can however vote with my cellphone and my wallet and tell Activision where they can stick it.

Why should Harmonix ask anyone's permission to patch their own game? I can't imagine that anything about what they did is illegal, either.

Sony needs all the good games it can get right now. They wouldn't want to tarnish a game that could be a possible system seller for them. We have all heard the rumors that Activision's lawyerswere pounding on Sony's door the minute they got wind of this whole patch.
Honestly though between the various other faulty hardware issues there have been many other problems with EA's latest release.

Those that can't.. say you are. Those that can.. flat out do it. Tell them you're boycotting their games and are buying the Xbox version instead. That, and you're boycotting Blu-Ray.
Sony has lost their shirt on the PS3 sales, and if they even thought 50 people would do this, they'd be shaking.
After Sony screwed Star Wars Galaxies players over two years ago, I've been doing a lot to make sure Sony gets all the bad word-of-mouth possible. Doing that effects their bottom line. Rage at their Ivory tower.. they'll notice.

This would solve absolutely nothing for me and would be punishing myself for Activision hosing us.
The best solution I've got is to bundle up my Les Paul and my Guitar Hero III disc and head down to GameStop, then take the $15 they will no doubt lowball me with (since every PS3 owner in town will be doing the same) and apply it toward the purchase of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.
Activision is who I want to hit, not Sony and not Harmonix. I'd be much happier in the long run with a second Strat--getting the Les Paul was more for my own convenience than anything else.
Also, as a reminder to myself in the future, any claims of compatibility issued by game review Web sites will be met with an email asking them to update the article specifying whether or not the game and statements they made about it are actually the results of testing it with more than the 360.

The initial word I heard about this patch was that Harmonix worked with Red Octane's cooperation to develop it.
One would think that if a company's subsidiary could involve themselves in such an endeavor, it would only have happened after checking with the parent company.
I think Sony should have just released it as soon as they had it. Forgiveness easier that permission, and all that, especially if Activision saw a nice little spike in PS3 GHIII sales the day after the patch released.

Here are the two e-mails I sent to Activision, use my points if you find them good!
Hello. I am a programmer who codes for a living. The mentality at Activision must be different from where I work, because here, the satisfaction of our customer is our top priority. Without that satisfaction, we make no money. The crowd who enjoy music rythm game is the same for both Guitar Hero and Rock Band. PS3 customers will not enjoy needing 4 guitar controllers for getting the same party experience as X-Box 360 customers can with two. It's not only a question of space, but also a question of price, because those guitars are not free. All that there is for you to gain is the hate from the fans of guitar rythm games. With the recent announcement of Guitar Hero 4, how do you expect to make any profits from the development if half of the fans of the genre are boycotting Activision? Considering the prices of Rock Band's guitar on Ebay, Activision could easily take advantage of Rock Band's flaw and gain the customer's interest. Fans and money, just like rock stars, you have nothing to lose. Instead of crying beause Rock Band is more popular than Guitar Hero III, you should take advantage of it and not attack the potential buyers of Guitar Hero 4 before they spend their money on your game.
As a customer, I believe that blocking the patch for the Guitar Hero III's Les Paul (PS3) compatibility was a very bad marketing decision. If you would look at the auctions on Ebay, you would notice that guitar controllers for Rock Band (PS3) are in extremely high demand and easily sells for 130$ for a single guitar because they won't be available until February. Given the fact that GH3 is sold for 100$ for a game and a guitar, compatibility between both games would really move a lot of units. One of my friend, who has a X-Box 360 already bought GH3 to use the Les Paul as his second guitar and he found that it was of higher quality than Rock Band's guitar. Not only that, but he also played GH3 a lot.
Me and a friend were waiting for that patch to buy Guitar Hero 3, but we will NOT be buying it until it is available, because we both already own 2 guitars for GH2 and already have purchased Rock Band, and we do not want to have 6 guitars sitting in a closet.
It is in your own interest as well as the interest of your customer to allow the customers to use the guitar they prefer for the game they want and forcing the customers to own 6 guitars because the compatibility between those game is horrible is not the best way to make us, customers, happy.

The point is why pay for something that we already own but doesn't work when the exact same situation works on X360? I think we have the right to complain.

Do not sign this petition. Boycott Activison. Corporations need to learn that they only exist because consumers allow they to exist and only if they are acting in the best interests of the consumers. Make Activision the poster child for what happens when you screw your consumers.
Flood the market with our used copies of Activision products, thus greatly reducing the value of new copies.
The only way to stop this from happening in the future is to make an example.

I signed the petition--thanks for setting it up. Please also email and call Activision, everyone.
Investors in Activision (who seem to be selling today) might wonder why their company has made a decision which seems likely to hobble sales of their own hardware. The PS3 compatibility patch provides another reason to buy Guitar Hero 3, since the excellent Les Paul controller would have more uses.
Investors don't like when companies make decisions that hurt profits. I suggest you call them and remind them of that:

HOW ABOUT BOTH Xero314?
The problem with both a boycott and a petition is that if the problem does get resolved many people will go back on the boycott which would leave companies feeling free to abuse their customers until they complain. I would personally rather they treat use correctly in the first place.
I for one WILL NOT be purchasing any future Activision Blizzard products until they make serious amends. Letting the patch be released is not enough.

Fanboys are bad no matter the console. Seriously. And I guess you are VERY uninformed.
1. Haze isn't out.
2. Uncharted? There's also Ratchet And Clank, Unreal Tournament 3, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword and Folklore that are only on PS3 right now and are extremely worth it.
It takes you a year to get motivated to buy a game? Come on. I had my X360 very early and it was EXACTLY the same thing. After Oblivion, it took until Gears to have a game that was worth it.
These days, I'm playing Mass Effect, UT3, Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted. The lack of game argument died months ago, please stop being such a fanboy and open your eyes. Both consoles have excellent games and EVERY fanboys are extremely biased.
