Ok, movie not so great. Concept, good.
What's in everyone's bucket list?
Mines got a few right now, though I'll probably add some later.
1) See GNR Reunite and play Coma live. Chances are very, very, slim since they only played it 4 times ever. Mainly cause Axl's voice always ends up dying and Slash breaks a string. Who cares....still awesome. I really want to see this sometime.
2) See Queensryche perform Operation: Mindcrime I & II with Dio live. Again, slim chances.
3) Write and record an album where every song is completely different. Have a metal song, have a rock song, have a grunge song, have a jazz song, a swing song, everything. It'd be fun to do.

1.See The Who live.
2.See Coheed and Cambria open for Iron Maiden.
3.See as many Green Day shows as humanly possible.

I'm more of a record guy, but even for that I don't have much "before I die" concepts outside of keep my mind open and try new records every year.

1.Make an album with a lot of different styles, while it flow really well.
2.Become a reliable musician
3.Be open minded each year in my remaining lifespan to music both new and old, spanning all genres.
4.See Vanity Theft play a full set
5.See as many Rush concerts as possible
6.Play bass for Ayreon on an album(hah, won't happen :) )
7.Bring a copy of Atheist's Piece of Time to a concert that requires going through a metal detector before going in. Proceed to empty pockets of all "metal" objects when I go through.

/thread redux.
In addition to that, I have quite a few goals to reach before I kick the bucket. All of them are kept simple and within the realm of possibility, though.
1. See The Smiths Reunite
2. Form a power trio
3. Write a decent song
4. Learn how to play bass better

Oh number 4 will definitely be easy to do, it just takes some dedication to get better. :)

#1) See The Smiths re-unite, get invited to sing "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" on stage with Morrissey
#2) Become Queen's new frontman
#3) Get to sing every song on Ten on stage with Eddie Vedder
#4) Get to sing "Hey Jude" on stage with Paul McCartney
#5) Create a concept album
#6) Front RUSH, when Geddy Lee's voice starts to go out and all he can do is play bass
Yeah, that stuff will never happen.

Yeah, you would think people would jump on this more often rather than making music from an one genre standpoint.

My personal guess has always been live performances and demographic. If you put a pop-punk song on the same album as a shoegaze album, on the same album as a jazz or black metal song, you're going to have a very divided audience. Plus some might not come to see you live if they only like 25% of your material. I can also imagine changing guitar and bass tones between each song being annoying.
Regardless, I love the idea.

I think it just has something to do with the musicians themselves generally not having a wide enough interest in different music types to wantt to play anything outside their favorite genres.

I think musicians themselves are just as segmented as the music listening audience. Im sure we have forum goers here that are half as young and four times more knowledgable then some bands that have 4 albums on the market.

Cause people like cookie-cutter albums.
Yeah, you would think people would jump on this more often rather than making music from an one genre standpoint.
It would take too much effort.

Yea, the audience wouldn't be able to handle it unless they we're as open minded as you.
Live however, I'd suggest changing the songs so they'd be doable without too much tone changing. Kinda like how bands like to make acoustic remake albums...here you could keep the songs as true as possible, but still try and make them a little similar.

Yes. I guarantee you that someone like say, Miley Cyrus, wouldn't ever listen to Iron Maiden and want to make something similar. Same goes for like, say, Megadeth wanting to do a pop song.

To be honest, I've never fully believed that... I've always suspected that was simply a publicity stunt.
At least, none of it shows in her music.

Yeah, you would think people would jump on this more often rather than making music from an one genre standpoint.
Trust me, there's lots of artists that would love to do something like that but wont because they know the large majority of their audience wouldnt go for it and the people that might wouldn't buy the album because of the name slapped on the cover. Thats the #1 reason you wont see a solo album from Eddie Van Halen, he knows the stuff he'd record for a solo record the fan base would hate and the people that might like it would never buy it because of his name and association with the Van Halen sound.
It's also why you see guys like Slash playing with people like Anita Baker and Michael Jackson, it allows them the freedom to delve into other styles they enjoy but could never get away with it otherwise. Very few artists have a fan base that will go with them for the ride when they feel like changing things up, Prince is one of the few but even there the fans get divided over his changes in musical direction.

This is a very good point. The Beatles did manage to get away with it on the White Album, though.
I think a huge part of it is the musicians themselves not feeling they can get away with it, when they may have a more open minded fanbase then they give themselves credit for.
