I'm one of those guys that has played guitar hero since its release. I even credit myself with spreading its popularity in much of the southeastern nation. (i'm not joking and will explain if anyone cares to listen) My question, however, is why can i not play gh1 and 2 on my ps3 with the rock band strat? Please harmonix, help! I have a fond place in my heart for these games and would love to play them once again. Thank you.

I would like to be able to play GH1 & 2 on my PS3 also. Especially since I never got to play them because I never owned a PS2.

Please, HMX find a way to make it work!!

For the same reason you can't play your Les Paul on Rock Band.

Activision doesn't want you to!

Or (less hysterical response alert) according to Harmonix the hardware "talks" differently. Interpret that however you will. I interpret it as RB having open source coding and GH having very tight, locked up, sealed, and fumigated coding.

Umm, but Activision didn't make GH 1 & 2, Harmonix did. And they know how it "talks."

Also, no, Rock Band is no open source. Do you even know what open source means?

Correct. Just harmonix and red octane right? Surely red octane aren't the people permitting this from happening.

I'm glad you credit yourself for something you probably didn't do.

although i wouldn't mind hearing why you think this.

I think it actually has to do with the PS2 version of these games being unable to recognize instruments plugged into the USB ports. At the time GH and GH2 were created, no one was really worried about whether they would be backward compatible not only with future consoles but with future game controllers that hadn't even been conceived of yet.

Good to hear i made someone ''glad'' lol. Here's the story... I bought the original gh thinking it would be fun 1 week after it's release. Of course i was instantly addicted. After showing it off to all my friends they had to have a copy too. Unfortunately our local retailer, where i was working in management, couldn't keep up with the demand. Actually they just didn't see the potential. After much debate i finally convinced upper management to let me feature and demo this incredible game. Our sales, of course, went through the roof. After seeing this spike in sales, several competitions at store level soon followed. It also quickly became mandatory to feature this game, and it's follow ups, in all of our stores. (we are one of the largest retailers in the world btw) continued...

You're interpreting his interpretation wrong. He says he looks at it like that, because it's simpler than saying "open standards".

And Activision published the games, and they and Red Octane didn't want third party guitar controllers working. And, now that Harmonix is third party to them, their guitar doesn't work.

I was often told that i made the game look easy seeing as how i had played it for a while by now lol. That made it easy to sell a few every time i played. So anyway i don't credit myself with the games total popularity at all, i'm sure it would've done fine without me, but i do know that i sold A LOT for christmas that first year.
