Ah, so I put in a pre-order for the PS2 version of Rock Band about a month ago. I was planning on buying it as a christmas gift for someone in my family. Well, about 15 minutes ago, I got this e-mail:
Hello from Amazon.com.

We're writing about your recent order for the following item:

Rock Band Special Edition

Unfortunately, we've learned that we will not be receiving the
quantity we expected from our supplier. As a result, we have cancelled
this item from your order. You will NOT be charged for this item, as
we only charge you for items at the time we ship them to you.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by this
cancellation. An unexpected manufacturer delay has meant that
availability of this title has been severely limited for all
retailers.

However, we hope to be able to offer this game again during the first
two months of the new year.

We value your business and hope to see you again at Amazon.com.

Sincerely,

Customer Service Department

Dang, looks like I won't be getting it from Amazon. I doubt anyone is taking pre-orders for it still...maybe Fry's will have it on release day again? (That's where I got my 360 copy of the game.) If there's any chance of me still getting it, any ideas where? Surely there must be other people out there in the same boat as me.

Same thing just happened to me. Got the same e-mail. It was going to be a gift for my niece and nephew. Not sure what I'm going to do now...

Yeah, what the heck. Isn't this the point in pre-ordering something? Now we're left out in the cold? This is BS. I'm so disappointed.

You guys have any idea where you're gonna get it? I have a friend who works at the Super Target near me, so I might be able to get him to hold one, but if he can't I have no idea how I'm gonna get it.

I just recieved the same email from Amazon. Now im out a Christmas gift, thanks! What a bunch of scrooges!!! I preorder it weeks in advance and then am told a week before its to be released that I now wont be getting it at all? I am severely disapointed in Harmonix and Ea for one, not making this hardware problem known ahead of taking everyones preorders, and two for Amazon waiting until the last minute to tell us all that preordered it that we wont be getting it untill the first 2 weeks of next year. Looks like they are going to get what they want now, Im gonna have to shell out $400 for a PS3 and another $170 for the bundle. I smell a big scam going on.

My girlfriend got that email too. Sucks, but from other reports, sounds like the PS2 version is gimped horribly anyway.

I guess I'm the lucky one:

Hello from Amazon.com.

We wanted to let you know that there is an unexpected manufacturer
delay with your video game order, #xxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxxxx. Unfortunately,
we are unable to ship the product(s) as soon as we expected and need
to provide you with a new estimate of when they may be delivered:

"Rock Band Special Edition (PS2)" [Video Game]
Estimated Ship Date: 12/28/07

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this delay. An unexpected
manufacturer delay has meant that availability of this title has been
severely limited for all retailers.

I'm still getting it, just not till after Christmas. Oh well.

Hi, the same thing happened to me. I was going to go stand in line when it comes out but I keep hearing bad things about it for the PS2. Do you know where I can find out factual information about the difference between the PS3 version and PS2? Thanks.

The rumor is that the truck that got stolen was carrying all the PS2 versions of Rock Band

Nah, from what I hear Amazon always sucks with preorders for video games, they get too many orders and not enough copies of the game. I'll never be trying this again...

I hate using amazon, but they always have what I'm looking for. I remember ordering CD's off them. I'd wait about 2 weeks just so they can tell me they don't have the CD in stock.

That's why I always use eBay whenever possible. I'd say probably 85% of the time you can find it cheaper or for the same price as Amazon. Usually ships in less than a week :D

I know people will think I'm a ***** for saying this but I'm happy Amazon is screwing their customers. The modern practices of requiring pre-orders to get something on release day is asinine and I would really like to see it done away with. The whole process is just a way for stores to gain your money before actually supplying you anything, so that they can gain the interest on it rather than you.

But this is why I like to take pleasure in asking the local Gamestop for a game on release day knowing that they won't have any other than the pre-orders. I then proceed to the local independent retailer who, if they were not screwed by their distributor, has plenty of copies of the game I want. Then wonder past the Gamestop they never gets your money and make them well aware that you just bought form someone that actually knows how to treat a customer right.

This is just an opinion.

The alternative is to buy the PS3 bundle and the PS2 standalone. I got mine a Wal-Mart last night and it's worth the extra $60! I'm not sure what I'll do with the PS3 version of the game, but I'm thinking I'll keep it for when I'm ready to upgrade the console. Everything works great and I'm a happy rocker!

Return the PS3 game to a place that takes returns without receipt, which many stores will do around this time of year. I'm not 100% sure on this but I don't think there are any markings on the bundled disk case that makes it any different than the stand alone. Heck just tell them you thought there were controllers available for it but turns out that there are not.
