View Full Version : I Just Can't Sync My TV With The Sound :(

Hey guys. I've been playing RB a lot at my friend's house, and he has a CRT television. It works great, and sync has never been an issue. At my own house, however, I own a 32" Samsung LCD HDTV with a set of computer speakers attached to the headphone port (two satellites and one sub) because the internal speakers are terrible. Since day one I have not been able to sync it properly, and I don't know what the problem is. The LCD default doesn't seem to work too well, and manually changing things is really difficult. For some reason, My lag offset changes drastically every time (it's human error, but it's frustrating). I've been playing these games since GH2, and I mostly play RB on Hard and do fine, so I'm not sure if skill is a real issue here.

If necessary I can post the model number of the TV, but I'm wondering if any other Samsung owners have any input, or anyone with an HDTV for that matter. I tried unplugging the speakers but it didn't seem to change anything, so it looks like I just can't sync them up.

Thanks in advance :)

In short, it's due to the signal processing in HDTVs. All HDTVs have this issue to a certain extent. If your TV has a VGA input and a 'game' mode, I would recommend using both to reduce the lag.

I use Component cables at the moment and I hear they're much better than VGA. The TV does have a "Game" mode under the Video settings, is that what you mean?

If switching to VGA will mostly kill the issue, I'll do it.

Yes, the game mode in the video settings.

I'm pretty sure it's the VGA input, but you may want to confirm with others before you actually buy a cable for it.

I have a 27" Samsung and what I wound up doing was taking the audio from my 360 and plugging it strait into my receiver (and using the RCA plugs instead of my digital optical cable) Doing this actually gave me a 0ms latency believe it or not. As much as I love digital...analog is lower latency (and as much as I want to say I can hear the difference, I can't).

Find an adapter for your speakers (I know they make RCA -> 1/4" jack...one came with my Logitech PC speakers) and bypass your TV all together.

Just in case anyone was wondering, Im using the VGA cable...not component.

You mentioned you've played the guitar hero series. I was also having trouble getting my lag fixed up in Rock Band so what I did was just take the lag compensation I used in GH3 (40ms) and manually set that in Rock Band (set the second thing to 0ms) and that seemed to dial it in perfect for me.

Not saying it's a solution but it's something to try I guess.

Edit: Also try Game Mode on your TV if you have it, it should reduce latency by disabling some of the stuff that takes extra processing time.
