if a day in the life is in the game will the lead singer sing john and pauls parts or will the lead just sing john's part and a singer who is harmonising sing pauls part?

No-one knows for sure (the song hasn't even been confirmed to be in the game), but I would suspect that they will chart Paul's part to the lead vocal.

The beautiful thing about the system is that it is up to you. It all will likely be charted to the lead, but no microphone is tied to that role.

Anyone can sing any part, anytime they want.

I think it'd be much cooler if lead singers switched for that part. Like, Lead would be John, Harmonizer would be Paul.
I really hope they do this with I've got a Feeling too where Paul is lead and John is the Harmonizer. It's gonna be magical.

I think you're still missing it. Anyone with a microphone can sing any of the vocal parts so it's up to you and the other singer. If you want to switch, then go ahead.

Well, that wouldn't really make sense because John and Paul each have their own lead parts in both songs.
but it's true, any one can sing any part of a song (if there's two microphones I believe). If there's only one, you have to sing lead.

Can you choose to only sing back-up?

You can choose to sing any part you want assuming there is another person there to sing the lead if you don't. So yes, as long as someone is singing the lead part at all times you can sing whatever part you'd like.

I would hope that they'd still switch to a different color line (when playing with multiple players). Same for "Sgt Pepper's LHCB / With a Little Help From My Friends"... I know that my friends and I can just switch on the fly if we want, but if we all agree in advance who's going to try to match which color line, it's gonna be weird to try to switch that up mid-song.

I mean just the backing vocals. Being lead the whole time can get tiresome.

yes i know you can sing whatever you want to but if you watch the videos the blue line is the lead so will that be there during pauls part or just for johns

If you're only playing one player (singing), I guarantee they will make Paul's part lead, because that is a lead part during the middle eight. John and Paul sing co-lead.
Go down to personnel, see for yourself.

This isn't a confirmation that it will be this way, but I'm sure Harmonix would do this, or else you'd be doing nothing for about a minute.

I agree with that. So I guess the real question is, will the solo vocals part always be identical to the lead part when playing harmonies, or will they have separate charts so that when playing solo you sing other parts when possible... For instance, even within With A Little Help From My Friends, it'd be natural to sing both halves of the back-and-forth parts when playing solo vocals.
