Crazy story from the LA Times:
One of this year's hottest video games got hotter last weekend, when highway bandits near the City of Industry hijacked a truck carrying more than 1,000 copies of "Rock Band" and the electronic musical instruments that accompany it, authorities said Wednesday.

Each one of the game disks have a unique code that will be blacklisted from any online activities... The hardware though might be a different story, as they can sell those individually.

Man oh Man I know that some of you were too young for this...but when I was a kid, something EXACTLY like this happened when the Colecovision came out and they hijacked the entire semi too! I was one of those sad kids that didn't get their gamesystem that Christmas as the shipment was heading toward our local Electronics store.
...now I'm sad...but hey, it does seem that RB isn't as scarce as it was a week ago with Amazon.com having it in stock now.

I'm PRETTY sure software doesn't get serialed for consoles.

At least they can be sure to find some working instruments in those 1000 copies.

Every copy of Guitar Hero III had a unique user code to be entered into the GH III website.
Just throwing that out there.

It says in the story it was the 360 version:
"The Xbox 360 version of "Rock Band" that was stolen retails for $169, making the score worth more than $170,000."

Wonderful points you make.
Still doesn't change the fact that every copy of Guitar Hero 3 had a unique code you could enter into the GH3 website.
For the slow-to-grasp... all I'm saying is that yes, there are instances where software has been individually encoded, so yes, it's perfectly feasible that every Rock Band game disc is uniquely coded, so yes, it's also feasible that if someone used a "know-to-be-stolen" copy that they could be traced/blocked/etc.

I don't think the unique code from GH3 is tied to the game disc. It's more than likely tied to your GamerTag.
