And Brian, Yoko, Linda, Neil, Derek, Billy, Eric, Pete, Stu, and all those other 5th Beatle candidates.

The results suprise me. John's in last!

Most definitely George. He was very underrated and people don't appreciate what he did in terms of guitar.

Ok, I'm just going to keep holding down the down key, and whatever option is selected, I'll vote for, because I like all four.

It came out Paul. Which is fine, because I like me a flawles pop song, and Paul is the master of those.

John has always been my favorite and I sing more in his range too. However, I've always fancied Paul's bass parts. I guess for this game I'll be singing John's parts, but playing Paul's bass.

I'd have to go John, Ringo, Paul then George.

John is the number one because I heart his post-Beatles work as much as his work WITH the Beatles - although I don't mind Paul McCartney, Ringo or George solo, none of them really reached the same level that John did. Paul solo often just bores me.

Ringo's got a charm about him. Not the best singer, stuck in the back as the drummer, but has great vocals on songs like With A Little Help...

John. I think his songs are more interesting; a lot of my favourite Beatles songs are Johns. I prefer his solo work too. Paul can be a bit too smug and charmless at times. George is cool as, wrote some fantastic stuff, but not enough to put him in first place. Not close.

George is my favorite. He always seemed to be cooler and more "with it"... not "out there" like John, humbler than Paul and not as goofy as Ringo.

And I like his songs (as well as his solo work) the best.

pelemerengue

John's always been my favorite. I enjoy his music, both with The Beatles and on his own, and you have to admire how bold he was in life with his peace activism and everything. I've been warming up to George, though.

As long as we're being childish and playing favorites: I've never liked Paul much. I mean, don't get me wrong -- he's a fantastic songwriter and performer and several of my favorite Beatles songs are essentially Paul McCartney songs. But most of my least favorite Beatles songs are also Paul McCartney songs... every now and again he has this tendency to write something really schmaltzy or cutesy and I can't stand it.

Also, I don't like his smug, stupid face.

(:

Oh, and nothing against Ringo. Some of his drum performances are amazing and both of his solo-written Beatles songs are actually great tunes.

I don't like doing favourites. It makes me feel like if someone went up to a parent and said 'Which one of your kids do you like best?'
Uh... you think of The Beatles as your children?

Poor Ringo. In last place. It's okay, man. I love Octopus's Garden!

As a guitarist, I picked George. His songs are beast. He was a very peaceful person (or so I heard). But, most importantly HE SURVIVED BEING STABBED REPEATEDLY. That's hardcore. :D

John is second for the same reasons, but I've also heard he was kind of a jerk, in addition to campaigning for world peace and all that...so yeah.

Like everyone else, I love them all equally. However, if I had to pick my favorite, it would be George. His guitar work is brilliant, and he never seems to get the credit he deserves for some of his songs. I've seen many people on here bashing Within You Without You, even going as far as saying they skip it when listening to Sgt. Pepper! I cannot believe that, because I find WYWY to be one of the best songs on that album.

Ringo had his head cut off in Liverpool recently after some ill advised derogatory statements about the city . (It was a really cool Hedge at Liverpool Southway Station cut into the shape of the Fab Four ) , shame really but people are very proud of their hometowns and I'm sure you are too wherever you are .
I heard him on Radio Merseyside a year or so ago and he seemed a really nice bloke , anyway I forgive him , theres good and bad in every city and I suppose when you make shedloads of cash and move into the Hollywood Hills or whatever you want to convince yourself that you did the right thing .
(bet there are some of you living in L.A. who can tell me its a cr*phole in places too!)

I never understand the "George is underrated" view. As a guitarist, we all know he was the best. As a songwriter, whilst his contributions were for the most part brilliant, he only created 6% of their entire catalogue. He proved himself as a musician, but he was never anywhere near the calibre of John and Paul in terms of the sheer number of hits they could create in such a short amount of time. And don't say "He just wasn't given the chance".

But the fact remains that he wasn't. He was allowed one song per side from the Help! album onwards. Does that sound like a fair shake compared to the juggernaut that was the Lennon-McCartney songwriting machine?

If they truly treated him as an equal partner in writing songs, he would have been permitted to contribute more of his work to their albums. So I'd say he was underrated, even by his fellow Beatles.

Let's not also forget how much material he amassed that McCartney/Lennon wouldn't utilize that ended up on his stellar All Things Must Pass solo album debut.

I'd have to go with the Late, Great George Harrison. Ever since I liked The Beatles, George's songs have always connected with me so well & are among my eternal Beatles Favourites. His lyrics were just brilliant & his guitar playing is actually underrated by many (IMO).

I liked George for his creativity and capability of expression in both writing and sound, he tried out a lot more crazier stuff the others wouldn't.

Yet similar aspects also lead me to appreciate John Lennon, too.

This.

George isn't my favorite Beatle, I don't have one, but I totally agree with this. George wasn't given the chance that John and Paul had. I must point something out though, If I were either Paul or John I might not have given him a chance either. John and Paul were brilliant in the fact that they produced incredible songs within a short amount of time. George was brilliant too, but neither of them gave him the time. George once said that whenever he introduced a song, all of them would listen and instead of working on it, Paul would introduce one of his songs.

Now, I have no disrespect for Paul or John, they are insane when it comes to song writing. I really do wish that they saw George for he was though.

Ringo, also underrated as a drummer of course. He wasn't a maniac on the drum set (you don't need to be), but he just fit with the Beatles' sound.

Kiesterman

Ringo will always be my favorite. Nobody else could ever look so happy to just sit there and pound out a basic beat.
Second is Paul. But I have to say, if John had stayed the same as he was when he started (Manly looking, no glasses) He would be my favorite right now.
I love watching clips of his early years when he would just randomly start gibbering Italian words. Or his elbow keyboarding. ^_^

As others have said, he simply wasn't given the chance to contribute more. I mean, he was able to put out a double album (that has managed to go 6x platinum) worth of material the year after the band broke up. Songs like "Not Guilty" and "All Things Must Pass" could have easily been put on a Beatles album.

I'm not saying that Lennon and McCartney were the devil or anything like that, it's just that you can't deny that they controlled the majority of the band's content from the beginning. It's why the band's breakup was inevitable- there was no way that each band member was going to get all of their songs on albums with the group. It's why I cringe anytime someone mentions that Yoko Ono broke up the band or any such nonsense. Unless the band was willing to make incredibly large albums (which virtually would have been multiple solo projects combined under one name, which later Beatles albums are in many respects) someone was going to leave the group eventually no matter the circumstances.
