So far I haven't read about any differences between the two, but I'll be playing on the 360. I don't have a PS3 as of right now, although I may get one sometime this year/early next year. Sony is finally getting their hands on some actually good exclusives as well as that $100 price drop.

Yea we arnt supposed to have console wars it says in the rules lol but give it time and i think sony will be on top where it belongs...the main three things that attract me to PS3 is...Rock Band....Unreal Tournament 2007(ganna kill Halo sorry)..and my favorite series...Socom:Confrontation and thats a PS3 exclusive so i had to get the PS3

360. Just because I don't have a PS3 yet and besides, I already own a guitar for 360, so I don't have to buy a second one. (Because I guess that we'll only get a Game/1xGuitar/Drum/Mic Bundle)

Although... I may buy a second new (third overall) guitar anyway. :D

Unreal Tournament 2007 is also for 360. Assassin's Creed, is that for PS3? Bioshock, that's comming out on both right? AW! You guys are going to get Metal Gear Solid 4! Snake, come to the Xbox!

It's for both, originally it was PS3 only I believe but they moved to 360 and PC since the PS3 had such a small user base. I forgot about UT3 though, It'll be coming to the PS3 earlier than the 360 and it'll support user-generated content, so I'll be getting the PS3 version of UT3 :D.

I really hope that somehow there will be cross-platform play between 360 and PS3 on Rock Band, but I doubt it's going to happen. It would be really nice, since you won't be limited to playing only with people on your console.

I do not yet own a 360 or a PS3. Because of this I plan to get the 360, one main reason for this is simply the price, it is much cheaper. I'm basically buying it for Rock Band as of now, so it seems like a much better idea. Also Xbox has a much better set up online as of now, and with online play and DLC being so important in this game, it seems like a good choice to me.

360 all the way baby! Mostly cause I already have one. But come on, there's just no denying the sweetness that is Live!!! I think this is really gonna make finding friends and just playing online in general a much smoother process. Although it would be awesome if we could play cross-platform! Probably wishful thinking but the more the merrier I always say!

Someone before me said it on this thread and I totally agree. If want the PS3 and Sony to get any better we need to just go ahead and spend the extra cash. I don't own a 360 or PS3 yet, but I have full faith that I'll rock out just as hard, if not harder, on a PS3. I'm not gonna go get a 360 just because more people have one. I want the most advanced system and best gameplay I can get and I feel that I'll find it on the PS3. :D

Since Rock Band is billed as an online experience, and the 360 has a superior online platform, the conclusion is only logical. It also has a larger pool of people to play with.

Regardless of your persuasion, I expect the experience will be tailored to each console's strengths.

People who own Guitar Hero 2 for the xbox 360 have a very good reason to buy Rock Band for the 360 too (2nd guitar) but overall I think it will be better to play it on the PS3 because there you will actually be able to hear the MUSIC instead of the console ;)

(why don't they finally release a patch for the 360 to slow down this jet engine dvd rom?)

@fragpirate: In PS3 home you will actually have trophies (for your achievments) to put into your virtual shelves to show them off. That's way better than the sterile achievements of the 360.

PS3 for me. I don't trust my 360 anymore so barring any major differences in games or a needed custom soundtrack I'll go with PS3.

It scores highly........sells a bajillion copies........and is still one of the most played games online. Hmmm doesnt sound very overrated to me.

For anyone thinking of getting a ps3 get one next month when the price drops temporarily to 500. Otherwise you'll be paying an extra 100 for 20 GB of memory you dont need once the 60GB model is sold out.

Please... It has nothing to do with HYPE so much as a rock solid fanbase and community that's been built since the first Halo. The game is amazingly balanced, online play and support are great, and I still play Halo 2 online with friends all the time. The replay value is huge.

UT has been around since god knows when.. I remember buying Unreal when it first came out. UT has never had the fanbase that halo has, and it's far too fast-paced for a lot of people.

And saying it's overrated is totally a fanboy thing to say.

The 60 GB model is being reduced to 500. However both the head of sony europe and Kaz Hirai have announced that model is no longer in production. So once that stock sells out all that will be left is the 80GB model for 600. Its kinda of a cheap and manipulative move on sony's part because of how it seemed a "price drop" was in effect although in essence theyre just getting rid of old product.

You won't trust me.

I have my 20 GB (which actually is 12 when you start) one for 360 and ive downloaded countless things

The oblivion expansion was a gig alone.

I still have 10 GB left.

you just won't need that space

ALSO and this is huge is the 80GB one won't have the Emotion engine, so you won't be able to play ps2 games.

I think thats confirmed but i'm not sure.

So have I... namely any of the battlefield games. But they lack the single player experience to make it a complete, all around killer app. Halo incorporates both single and multiplayer, involving storyline, and innovative gameplay. It's definitely not even in my top 10 for favorite games ever, but it's not overrated.

It has to score highly to be over rated so using that for a reason it's not doesn't exactly help anything. It's only about a 5 to me so I think it's over rated too.

 i'm going to be playing this game on my PS3... but there seems to be much more contention about which console is better or can play better... i just wanna play the damn game! :(

BTW:
The Blu-Ray format is a High Definition format. Has very little to do with DVD, except that it is an optical disc - which can also be said for CD. Shouldn't worry anyone without a HDTV, since that's the ONLY real reason a person would want the new HD format technologies. I love watching movies on my PS3 in HD. Rent both DVD and BD versions of The Terminator to find out why! :D

(Full Disclosure: I have only seen the demos for HD-DVD, and have noticed small artifacts. But I think it's probably the demo setup that's causing it. I have nothing against the format - I only have limited exposure to it.)

Wow! There's a lot going on in this thread.

I'll be playing Rock Band on the 360 for sure.

Achievements > trophies.
360's seemless community interface > PS3's community interface (maybe Home will make that better).

I own both, but this is a no brainer. The only positive I've seen for having this on PS3 is Sony's DLC policies appear to be better than Microsoft's (if you have multiple consoles or multiple users) or the fact that you don't want/have a 360 - but that's up to you.

Halo = not for me, but won't say it's bad. I personally believe other games would be just as successful online if they would use the best thing in Halo: the matchmaking system.

And finally, Blu-ray = HD-DVD as far as quality. I own both as well as an Optoma HD70 projector. It looks amazing at 110''!!! Some discs look better than others naturally - due to the transfers. But it looks like HD-DVD is losing ground as far as support which I figured would be inevitable. Still waiting for the LOTR trilogy promised last year - hoping it'll be on the new dual format that Warner Bros. has been working on.

Well I will be on the 360 as I do not own a PS3. I may get one but in my opinion it is too expensive and not enough game titles right now other then the things I can play right now for my 360. I will admit they have a couple of games that was announced at E3 that I would not mind playing and may force me to get a PS3. However I did read that Rock Band is coming out for the 360 first then the PS3. They did not give a time frame on it. I am not saying it is true as I do not know, but I do know I watched the whole E3 and Harmonix played the game with Microsoft and Peter also named Rock Band as part of the Xbox line up of games. Sony said nothing of the game during their conference. Each time the game was demo'd it was on the 360. The other thing that would have got me to buy the PS3 at the price it is now was if the graphics was totally better on the PS3. So I called my friend who has one and had him plug his PS3 on my high def TV in the living room then I bought my hi def tv from my bedroom and hooked up the 360 and I thought the picture from the 360 looked better. My opinion.

I don't own an HDTV or a ps3 but from what i've heard it really depends on the game. and it would suck big time if rock band came out later on the ps3. But i suppose that would be a good thing in terms of supply being available, and of course us 360 owners getting it earlier :D

I've just bought the 60 gig model, and after installing stuff for Ninja Gaiden, Folding@Home, Super Stardust HD, and Nucleus, I'm down to about 44 gigs. I'm not sure how much of that was taken up by formatting (since the 20 gig is really 12 usable gigs), but I would imagine that eventually you'll run out of space. I'm personally looking to buy a 160 gig to put in there.

Oh, and the $500 price drop made the PS3 absolutely irresistable, so I'll be playing Rock Band on that, going online to play for free, and not paying for DLC with some obfuscated currency (thank God that Sony and Nintendo are honest about how much money DLC is worth).

Rock on!

Having a point system has more to do with international support than "obfuscating currency". So by releasing an arcade game at 400 Microsoft Points that means that it costs $5 in the US, and the equivalent in another country...the points will just cost the equivalent amount. This way no code changes need to be made to support different countries with different currencies.

You have a point, but ultimately, technology needs to cater to the end user's needs, not the company that's developing the technology.

I'm not sure if Sony works the same as Nintendo exactly, but I do know that Wii points are almost perfectly equivalent to the home country's currency. 100 Wii points is equal to $1.00 USD, 1 Euro, 100 Yen, etc... It's perfect coversion, so you know exactly how much you're paying every time. The prices may be different beftween countries (I think Super NES games are 600 points in Japan and 800 here), but it makes sense to the end user. My point was that no one's trying to trick you into thinking you're paying less for something when you're really not which Microsoft is doing (400 Microsoft points does not equal $4.00).

I'm actually buying an Xbox 360 JUST for Rock Band!!

All that's left is 194 dollars!!

With all this effort I BETTER see some AC/DC in there! I mean, is there ANY song better suited for Rock band than Thunderstruck!? Perfect Lead guitar, Rhythm, Drums, And Vocals! Oh well, Guns n Roses is in there, that's cool with me. Anyone know any ways to rake up some extra cash?

Unless I've missed some recent announcement, I don't believe there has actually been any confirmation of Guns n Roses in Rock Band. There was a leaked video at one point showing Welcome to the Jungle, but that was apparently just an internal test, and they hadn't got the licensing yet. Since then Welcome to the Jungle has actually been announced for Guitar Hero 3 - that doesn't necessarily stop it from being included in Rock Band as well, but I imagine it does make it pretty unlikely. I really hope Guitar Hero 3 doesn't now have some exclusive deal for Guns n Roses - as awesome as Rock Band is looking, no Guns n Roses would be a real shame.

Rock on!

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, being a new PS3 owner as of a couple of days ago, and for likely the same reasons. I knew I was going to get one eventually, but then "fire sale" came along, and since I have a substantial PS2 library, I wasn't willing to take the chance on compatibility issues with software emulation rather than built-in Emotion Engine architecture. Of course, the thing that finally swung me was seeing the GameSpot video where Alexandar, Helen and all the rest rocked out on Rock Band and that totally sold me; Guitar Hero is one of the single most fun experiences I've ever had on a video game, so Rock Band alone made the PS3 a worthwhile purchase. I'm more excited about this game than Heavenly Sword or any of the other actual exclusives, though obviously I'm still looking forward to those. But for me, Harmonix has been shooting straight to the top with the amazing work they're doing in the music game genre. A Harmonix game is Happiness In A Box, as far as I'm concerned.

Who can afford a PS3 and the Rock Band Bundle at the same time? Xbox 360 all the way!

I think a PS3 works out just as cheap, or even cheaper than an XBox 360 now. $400 Xbox + Wireless Network Adapter + Live Gold Subscription > $500 PS3 that is wireless out of the box with free online.

You won't trust me.

I have my 20 GB (which actually is 12 when you start) one for 360 and ive downloaded
ALSO and this is huge is the 80GB one won't have the Emotion engine, so you won't be able to play ps2 games.

I think thats confirmed but i'm not sure.

You're partially right. It IS confirmed that the new models won't have the old Emotion Engine architecture built into the PS3 the way the 60 and even old 20GB models do. Mostly this is because it will keep production costs down and hopefully help with a more permanent price cut in the future. But it WILL be backwards compatible through software emulation, which is what the European PS3 owners have been getting. Of course that means the backwards compatibility is less reliable, but odds are Sony--if they're willing--can address incompatibility issues with future updates to the OS.

Does anybody have an idea how long it will take for the Wii version to be released after the PS3 and XBox 360 editions have been released? I for myself have a Wii but do not have the money to buy a PS3 or 360, but I would kill to get my hands on Rock Band.

I'm getting it on the PS3 because of the Xbox Live Gold thing. If Harmonix is going to make it so that you don't have to pay for Gold, wonderful. That's awesome. But I doubt Microsoft will let them. PS3 online play is free, though, and my mom doesn't really want to pay for online stuff (I would, but no credit card). I'll get the DLC, though.

The 360s online services are far far better than PSNs and definitely worth the cash per year, and I already have a 360 and don't plan on getting a PS3 for at least another year or so.

So 360 it is.

Well, I mean, you can only assume. I mean, look at the page where you can download the Trailers. You see the two options, but above them, there is a screen shot. But that screen shot is not Suffragette City, like in the movie. The screen shot is actually from Welcome to the Jungle. So, if they bothered to upgrade the graphics and stuff for the newer version of the game, rather than the old version in the leaked video, you can pretty much guarantee that the song will be in there.

It looks like the round notes in the screen shot, so not the updated graphics.

However, my cynical side would say somebody's accidentally used the wrong screenshot. As for updated graphics - given that they'd already created the note chart, then it would presumably require very little effort to try it out in the latest build of the game engine. But hey, if it is in Rock Band, then great, I certainly won't be complaining. :)

I would rather like to see the whole Appetite for destruction Album as a downloadable
I love almost every song on that one

Xbox 360 is only 250 dollars.

xbox 360 with 20GB HD is 400.......plus live is 450

not everyone needs their 360 to have terrible laggy wireless connection so i'll discount that wireless adapter idea. plus you can use your computer as a wireless router. as well as stream video and music from it.
