So as the great Ice Storm '07 blew through on Tuesday my son and I went to the theater room to play a little snow day Rock Band. Sadly we didn't even get a chance to play a single note before 3 red lights were blinking cheerfully at us from the front of the Xbox. At first I hoped that it was just a "Merry Xmas" from MS but alas, no. It is dead.
MS said the turnaround on "fixing" it is 2 weeks but I guess I'll have to see it to believe it. Now I need to figure out something else to do with all of the out-of-town guests we are expecting over the holidays who were looking forward to some Rock.
I'm open to suggestions or donations of booze. Maybe if they're drunkard up enough I can just turn the radio on and have them pretend.

I'll resist the urge to recommend you buy a PS3 :) Damn, I guess I failed ;)
Seriously, though, I don't know that there's really anything you can do. It's kinda crazy that Microsoft requires so much time to replace your extremely expensive gaming machine, especially when compared to EA's excellent express shipping policy on their hardware returns.

Not sure if you have one in your area or even if you have a membership but some Video rental chains rent out 360's for a deposit and the rental cost. Its a good short term solution...

The turnaround is two weeks. However that doesn't include the shipping time which in my case was about another two weeks.

I too receive red rings, and have been receiving them repeatably with Rock Band. I have never got any red rings previously, only since I bought, and when I am playing Rock Band. Fortunately for me I only get two red rings and have to wait for a while to play again. Extremely annoying as my 360 is in an unheated room and no where near anything running hot.

Agreed. Might be the best way to ensure you get continued fun from the console in the holiday season.

We get it, Microsoft is in it for the money.
God though, this "M$" bull**** is more annoying than kids running around talking about how great anarchy is. The Xbox 360 is a perfectly fine console, as is the Playstation 3.

What?
Anarchy isn't great?
*sigh*
All those years of listening to real punk rock...wasted.

Well, you could always just buy a new one and use it until your repaired one comes back. Not sure what the return policy is though, but i think best buy has a 15 or 30 day. Good luck.

The biggest problem w/ MICROSOFT is that they charge people to beta test their faulty equipment.

I'm really glad I didn't get an xbox. Our TV/home theater/etc. sit above our fireplace and it gets a little extra warm up there. Nothing major, but still. I knew nothing about these issues but I bought the PS3 for the added Blu-Ray capability anyway. I'm really thankful now.

I had the red ring for xmas......of course it was caused by the hot wings I had for dinner last night.

I've had no issues with my 360.
Also, it's a good thing HMX doesn't have an S in their name, otherwise we could do the same thing and accuse them of making us "beta test their faulty equipment."

Or sell it a gamestop type of store and pick up a new one? Maybe the Halo edition?

Then I guess you are one of lucky ones not in the 33% range that do.
